I also remember Shura's temperamental outbursts. Once I heard him live with Tschaikowsky No.1 in Germany. He played like that: 0:46 - 0:53, he was also a genuine virtuoso.

The melodism is typical of Weber. Nobody else could have written this sonata. The rebition of Shura CHERKASSKY is outstanding.

Christo Janse van Rensburg this is better than either of the Chopin sonatas, which are more correctly described as suites for piano, as Chopin, in spite of his skill as a piano composer, could never master the sonata structure. The first movement of this Weber sonata sounds so sad to me.
