AWESOME! ANOTHER WORLD..... nowadays people seems to have forgotten this EMPEROR..... I understand young corean talent or chinese or wherever u want... for example in the latest Cliburn 2022 you can read some real delusions..... the winner is very good, but all that decanting stinks to me since so far in the world of classic no such a large number of people have ever bothered to watch videos of the competitors .... let alone the great performers including SHURA for me the most outstanding! Now with social media everything is manipulated: they create DIVINITIES like AZZERANO reality...... we'll see but in the meantime I'm enjoying these PURE DIAMONDS OF MUSIC! thank you very much! 🙏👋👋👋

Maravilloso Sherkasski. Hay otra maravillosa versión de esta chacona en el Carnegie en 1974 a cargo del también grandísimo Jorge Bolet.

I heared it in 1993 in St Petersberg, and its still unforgotable for me. This recordings is also unbeliewveable impressing, even without the magic feeling of live presence.

i can't believe there is all of this film of s.c. WOW! still no way to tell how h e achieves his sound or voicings . Amazing to have these portraits of him and hofmann what amazes is that rach was so famous yet there is nothing of him in front of a pedal yet so many others made it oon film.There is even de pachmann and bauer.Lucky for whatever survives .Just seeing how they sat must be instructive for some.This chaconne is epic .Everything he does is compelling here.

Thanks for your comments. I also like his 1991 Carnegie Hall 80th birthday concert performance which was issued commercially. Cherkassky was born in 1909 and not 1911 so he was infact 82 in 1991. Amazing that his fingers were still so agile in his 80s.

He is voicing the chord by emphasizing the top note instead of banging all the notes down the same way as most pianists do.

Cherkassky always produced a rich full tone from the piano. He once lamented that pianists today do not think about tone quality. Not for Cherkassky the thin toned trebly tinkling we often hear from young pianists. Cherkassky like Arrau and Malcuzynski could fill a large concert hall with luxurious sound.

were Arrau plays this Busoni transcription he will not allow himself to implement two hands on the first several chords...

Why playing the whole piece "a tempo" ? Didn't he know that Bach was born the same year than Chopin and Schumann ?
@FastnFuriousCDN6 жыл бұрын
I agree. I don't like this too much. All a tempo is a bit square for my taste.
@cynic1502 жыл бұрын
I strongly believe that his style (tempo) are correct. Too many pianists take liberties with the tempi of all works. They are mistaken. The tempo/metre give unity and strength to the whole. I heard Cherkassky play Rach 3 live in London. He made the pianoforte sound beautiful. His Schumann Symphonic Etudes are one of the best.
@cynic1502 жыл бұрын
Bach was born in 1685, Chopin in 1810 and Schumann in 1810. However, keeping the tempo is basic to all music, except where marked otherwise.
@Fritz_Maisenbacher2 жыл бұрын
@@cynic150 Would you accept that I think that Bach is born in 1810 ? And that Brahms wrote another transcription of this work only for the left hand, showing that this music is desperate and not strong at all ?
