I’ve always found hand coordination a bit overwhelming, but focusing more on playing music instead of exercises makes so much sense! Can’t wait to try these tips.

That thing about not practicing exercises, just playing music is 1000% accurate imo! I watch your channel because my ability to play piano isn't great lol, but I've been playing music with other instruments (cello, guitar, trumpet for a moment lol) since I was a kid. Everyone I played with that was truly proficient in playing their instrument like it was connected to their soul wasn't spending hours on repetitive non-musical exercises. Maybe at the start it might be helpful to explain something to someone, and there are some warmup exercises that are great for a few minutes before playing, but spending too much time with exercises feels like a great way for most people to just get bored and stop playing🙃

@@els1f Yeah, I feel like a lot of teachers have it backwards. They start with tons of exercises, which are very useful but not engaging. The first step in teaching an instrument imo should be reinforcing that initial passion and motivation a student by playing songs or tunes they are passionate about, and once they're hooked, blast them with exercises lol.

You're the first I've seen to give this as a reason for keeping time.

Wow man, beginner at piano here and I have to say, your videos are fantastic, excellent points and conveyed in a way that makes music seem very logical.

Hand coordination is one of my major problems when playing. This video has given me very good ideas on how to overcome this. Than you

Great video! I've always thought about it as becoming proficient in one hand and slowly working in the other hand. This is a different approach that makes sense. I look forward to putting it into practice.

Great instructions. Simply basic, and basically simple. I told my piano teacher that I was most impressed by great musicians playing simple songs, since as you said, they keep the tempo. I;ll get to work.

counting is definitely what has unlocked my hands coordination (at least to a beginner level !)

You're a lifesaver mate. The two trains is exactly how I had rationalized it! No wonder I was making very little progress

Believe it or not, only ONE DAY after watching your video, I could finally play an entire (albeit simple) piece! Made me realize a big part of learning is facing the challenges with the right mentality, and not just bruteforce it. Tbh I was getting pretty burned out until yesterday. Thanks man.

I think the most toxic myth people fall for is what you point to as the idea of our hands or one hand playing automatically. Fitting both hands into the rhythm grid requires an understanding of the structure of every bar. Mindfulness is what brings fluency, not muscle memory mindlessness, which turns us into mistake machines.

Just play both hands together slow until you get it. Playing slow works. Once you get it you’ll fly. No one has patience that’s the real problem.

Thanks much for the great tutorial… I always get into trouble when improvising on a swing, bosa or just anything that needs a specific rhythm😞… any advice please? Thank you
