Bobby Floyd just knocks it out of the park with this soulful rendition of Georgia On My Mind. Great musician!

When Bobby's hands move so does his (and our) heart. Saw him back in the day when he was Ray Charles' opening act. Hearing Bobby live brought people to tears...a perfect balance between blues, jazz and soul. I don't think he's ever been given the credit he deserves. There are too many wonderful things in this video to mention. Thank you Bobby for years of AMAZING music and a willingness to share the part of your heart where music like that comes from. And thanks Scott for sharing this.

I was there in the 80's to have seen and heard the genius of Mr Ray Charles and Mr Bobby Floyd.🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

for those wondering : the first chord substitution he did was D- C-7 F7 Bb instead of simply D- Bb (that's a 2-5-1 with Bb as a 1). He then followed by a Eb7 instead of a B diminished (which frankly i don't know what it is)..

I have watched this several times and I still can't get enough. There are no set rules when it comes to playing a musical piece like this. As long as you don't go to far out in left field, I mean to the point nobody can recognize the piece, you will be alright. Mr. Floyd does a great job on this lesson. Thank you so much.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I did learn alot about this song as he was teaching it. When he was talking about those blues scales, man I was writing them down. They will come in handy when I am playing other blues songs. I am also trying to learn how to play my chords in different versions. The more you spread them out the fuller they will sound. Outstanding video.

when you see a man playin like that, makin those facial expressions, you can see that the music is comin from his soul. you wanna play like this? you have to practice practice practice until it's comin outta your own soul. any of you sitting here and worrying about whether the piano is tuned, man you are so far away from what is going on here.

Thanks for the video content! Apologies for chiming in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you thought about - Riddleagan Possessing Piano Remedy (do a search on google)? It is a good exclusive guide for learning how to play the piano easily minus the normal expense. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my work buddy after a lifetime of fighting got amazing results with it.
@ciararespect42963 жыл бұрын
Err no. His left hand stretch is more than most have. Can spread the chords but not as good. Also he probably has music theory and perfect pitch. You can see him nearly making mistakes then quickly getting the right notes . That comes through perfect pitch. He doesn't even think about which notes to play it's like auto pilot . Perfect and relative pitch can partly be trained but virtually impossible. It can be taught under three year old because the brain is still pliable and the correct nerve connections can be built ie neurotransmitters He is obviously natural and it's inherent

I can only say that imho talent of this magnitude only comes from years of long, hard study, practice and rehearsal. By any standards this gentleman has worked long and hard to get to this top level. Hi "HomePicShow1". It's very simple, but sounds great. It's a Bb13 and an A13, so a half-note above the 5th (A) in the 2-5 connection. Notewise, it's: R.H. (right hand): Ab, C, D, G L.H.: Bb R.H.: G, C#, F# L.H.: A

In a way, you could say that it's a tritone substitution for Em7b5 too. A popular thing in jazz is to "dominantize" minor chords, which means you make them major instead of minor. Hence, here the Em7b5 would become an E7altered chord (E, G#, C, D, G). See the likeness between the E7altered and Bb13? G# is en-harmonic to Ab and the only difference is E, which in key of Bb acts as the #11. It all depends on the bass-note. Hope it helps :)

Wow yea thanks i knew something wasn't right in the middle of the dminor and the Bb yea the C minor 7 makes it sounds better, think il need to have practise working out what chord it is from ear but i think the b dim sounds alright? and clever using "D-" notation... is that correct notation for d minor, just wondering? Thanks :)
@rheapfeifle738211 жыл бұрын
It is still suitable if it is resolved correctly; the tonic predominates in this sort of blues harmony, the minor/major tonality of chords is often manipulated, like in his solo at the end when uses the F blues scale over the FM chord.
@lbmusictchr13 жыл бұрын
Here's the part I don't get. We say, "oh, just play the F Blues scale, or the D Blues scale, or the F Pentatonic scale," or whatever. But at 13:10 he is wailing away, striking a C# a lot, which isn't in any of those scales. So what does that mean? He is using it as lower-neighbor "bend" tone to slide onto the note D? Do not get it; he is awesome!
@ArminRennich13 жыл бұрын
@golden2314 did you ever get help on those licks at 4:35-4:48? if not I can try to help.
@lbmusictchr13 жыл бұрын
At 13:55 area he throws in all these -- what looks like -- parallel 3rd's with "bends" on the top note (meaning, sliding off the Eb to the E, along with the C 3rd below) I THINK, but he goes so fast it's like, hey, here's nothing! :) How the heck do you do stuff like that? And know which notes to hit?
