This Polonaise should be programmed more . In my 45 years of concert going I've never heard it while Ive heard most of the Chopin Polonaises and have seen Obermann and the etudes countless times in recital.

It's seems you heard Cziffra ago , for me since 1965' and after France Clidat and Leslie Howard ( very technical for me ) J would like to known what you think about France Clidat , J like very much because she has fabulous technic but mostly she plays a lyrical Listz , do you known her Listz ? J have all Listz Cziffra-Clidat but here Cziffra is the best with a viril romantic polonaise : j'm surprised with Cziffra it's the first time j listen him not only with his famous technic but more !

@@alainspiteri502 Yes, I heard Cziffra play Liszt's first piano concerto and Hungarian Fantasy plus many encores with the Halle Orchestra in Manchester UK February 15th 1959. I have been a great admirer ever since that time. He also played many times on BBC TV in the late 1950s and early 1960s. One of my favourite pianists along with Cherkassky and Horowitz. I have yet to hear the playing of France Clidat but from what you say, she must be very good.

@@piano345 j known also Cziffra Cherkassky Milosz Magin ( the same generation ) : for me Listz ( Cziffra Clidat ) Chopin ( Cortot S Francois ) Mozart Schumann ( C Haskil ) it's impossible with Horovitz to have a composer he played always the pieces where he is the best ( Kreisleriana ) . J don't like all with Cludat ( Sonanta Si ) but mostly a great technic and lyrical Listz she has " le grand prix du Disque Listz Sociéte- Budapest " but her polonaise is less good than Cziffra sonata also but many pieces very virtuoso and lyrical Listz . J known Cziffra Cludat since 1965' and j listen always to day those two Listz-pianists . Many pianists play Listz but Transcendental are Cziffra , Paganini is Clidat , it's pity that one Y Y the sound is less good than vinyls or CD

A tightly wired piece this is.... straight to the point...maybe not as thematic as Chopin's brand....yet the marked rhythms and pronounced left hand is there. Good job Mr. Liszt.
