This is an important video for play by ear students because foundation seems to be more obvious for sight-readers. You can get Alfreds, Bastien books, etc. But you can be left in no man's land playing by ear if you're going the self-taught route without a plan.

I really love this video!!! You said alot when you mentioned about searching for videos to learn from. I just stumbled on to yours and in this shirt amount of time I've learned a great deal. I'm trying to get what's in my head to come out of my hands and hopefully you can guide me to that point. Not have a music teacher to guide me is a struggle. Alejandro Medina sulfege is just the syllables we assign to the different degrees of the scale. Interval recognition is straight forward - it means being able to tell what interval is being played by ear.

Warren, I was playing a lot on Instrumentals like, Misty, You Are So Beautiful, Over The Rainbow, Tenderly. But with a personal reason I have not played for 6 months. I'm quite a bit older than you, and I've just today 4/24/201 started to set downing play. Would you have any advice for me, as I fell a little down or maybe fear that How long I'm going to have to work to get it back again. Thanks Warren.

Start with daily technique exercises - scales, blocked chords, broken chords, arpeggios etc... this will get the fingers moving again in no time.

aimthemoon quaytalig yes apps can be a great tool for practicing ear training. There are many apps on the market and unfortunately I don’t know which is the best as I’ve never tested any. However, I’m in the process of creating my own ear training app 😊
