Hi Chuck One of the reasons I bought the Liano, I had slipped on ice the week prior and fractured my right ankle. It was proving difficult to press the sustain pedal especially with a plaster on. The funny thing was my son said, “why don’t you try the other foot”. Having been playing keyboards / preferring piano actions for 40+ years, I wouldn’t have even thought about it. It wasn’t a problem adapted straight away. Currently trying to source a soft vinyl case for the Liano, no handle just maybe a sleeve, to utilise the small dimensions. So I can simply tuck it under my arm and put in the car / caravan, I think you call it a trailer in America. Graham 😊

The "being able to play 'into' the key" aspect of this action is really overlooked value for many professional piano/keyboard giggers. Especially nowadays with all those unbalanced weight/feel pianos/keyboards where the shortness of the keys causes the black keys become heavier-feel-than-the-white-keys-feel.

I think if Korg can make it "flip open" or make it into 2 parts (left and right) and "can be connected" in the middle, then you got something that can fit into a large backpack and carry anywhere

If this would have a 61 key version, I would buy that for sure. For some, 73 or 76 keys would be enough too. But of course if some need 88 keys, than can't be any compromise there.

Brand new viewer to your channel. Great job describing this piano, and I just bought one this morning (in metallic blue). After listening to multiple videos & keyboards, I had some very specific wants to fill. 1st and foremost, it had to be lightweight, and this one covers that in spades. Although my home workstation is a high end Yamaha workstation to do a few gigs it had to be light (not getting any younger 😅😅) it also had to have a great EP piano and a decent sounding grand style piano and this one covers both of those as you just demonstrated. Decent sounding strings are nice but I think the extra power in the Liano is the usb midi/audio in/out, that will come in very handy for my solo show. Thanks for your information and your giddy kind of enthusiasm. You have a new sub

I put 36 piano weights in an Excel sheet, and Liano is the lightest 88 key piano, at 13 lbs 3.6 oz. The second lightest is the Roland Go 88, which is 15 lbs 7 oz (essentially, Liano is exactly 6 kg and Roland Go 88 is exactly 7 kg)

@@emilianocampos7596 if I were to play piano long term, and play some classical, and need a good piano with good keyboard feel, I'd go with Roland FP-10 for the lowest price. Roland FP-30X is good too, FP-90X has a even better keyboard. Kawai ES920 is not bad... but if it is just portability, I haven't tried Roland Go 88 vs Liano... but if the online store has 30 day return guarantee, I think you can try it out that way. I think either one is good... sometimes I give a little more credit to Roland but then the Liano seems just as good in Chuck's demo. This is FP-10: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4mqoJ6wgL52eMk and kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2G6n4CEpq6Fl9U for $599 it is really great... just that it is bit heavy. Loving your review. Thank you. Just bought a blue one. Should have this week. Noticed the demo of strings sounded like layered piano and strings, which I thought wasn’t possible. Finally sold my 20 year old 37 pound Yamaha P90 and my 38 year old Traynor Block 100 Amp. Edit: just read your reply on demos that can replicate a layered midi playing through the keyboard. I’m in Toronto and had to order it from a shop in Montreal. Maybe it’s not in stock at the big music stores because it could take away sales of more expensive keyboards, or it’s too popular! :)

13:06 that's really good because such as on my Casio CT-S1, when I play Moonlight Sonata 1st Movement, the black keys and the white keys near the felt area are close to impossible to press down. I have to consciously move my fingers about 0.5 to 1 inch down in order I am able to press on the keys. Nobody would have told me that before I buy the piano. It's hard to guess si.ply from watchimg videos (which I did so far :)), but if I have to guess, I would say the Korg Liano L1 seems better at playability, I haven't really heard any kind of significantly louder notes popping out while different people playing it in different videos in different music styles. On the other hand, I heard many times significantly louder notes popping out occasionally whil different people playing the Piaggero in different videos in different musical styles. There is a really exellent japanese jazz piano lounge pianist gentleman (who I can't remember his name at the moment, but I will type it here if I remember), he said in his Piaggero review video that the Piaggero feels like it has a gap between mezzopiano and forte, it feels like there is a jump, and it creates occasional significantly louder notes popping out here and thete while playing it, so it is not possible to play an actually smooth crescendo or diminuendo for example. He might have said differently the details, but his point was more or less the same. The Piaggero sound source is exellent though, Yamaha CFX sound, very clean piano sound. The Korg Liano is still great sound, but it is more of a softer piano sound which is actually much better for certain piano styles, like relaxing piano covers, quiet piano ballads, and stuff like that. Piano Tone YouTjbe channel (Tony) said that he really like the action of the Korg Liano L1. He said he thinks/feels that the Liano's action feels significantly better compared to Casio CT-s1 action and Yamaha CK61 (he compared to those keyboards if I remember correctly, because he got those at that time of his review video). (Sorry if I messed up some details, but the main points should be true/valid/hopefully-helpful/etc. :) )

Awesome review (as usual ;) Super curious about a couple of things - are the keys "true full size" (an octave width of 164-165mm like on a digital piano) or are the keys "full-size" synth keys (159-160mm) like on Casio CT-S1, Yamaha PSR/SX etc? And how would you compare the action and main piano sound to the CT-S1? I have a CT-S1 but 88 keys would be nice; I have a Yamaha DGX-670 so used to fully weighted and while I like the CT-S1, I find the narrower keys a bit hard to get used to, and the action to be kinda "spongy" for lack of a better word. So I guess I'm asking if you'd say the Liano's action is any more of a "pianistic" playing experience than the CT-S1? Keep up the awesome videos! Would love to see one on the Korg Module that comes with the Liano

I don't feel that problem on my older Casio Privia PX-160 keybed (which is weighted and graded), but I feel that problem on my newer Casio CT-S1 (which is not even weighted, but it's harder to press at the top of the keybed then the weighted PX-160). I've heard that the Casio PX-S series have the same problem, AND they are weighted, it must be impossible to play well enough controlled dynamics on the PX-S series when we must play closer to the top (example: chords/arpeggios/etc that needs thumb on a black key and pinky also on the black key, etc)

Thank you for your comment! Yes, for a semi-weighted key action (Korg's LS action), I'm especially impressed with the ability to play "into" a key (as noted at 13:31 in the video), which is an improvement from Casio's CT-S1.

Thank you for your review! Could you please clarify if it is suitable as the first piano for a 5-year-old child? I am a little bit worried about "semi-weight" keys. But we can't afford the expensive piano and I would like to have a lightweight piano because we are going to move frequently.

@PianoManChuck Жыл бұрын
This is something your child's piano teacher should be able to determine after evaluating your child.
@kisha_music
@kisha_music Жыл бұрын
As a piano teacher I'd give an easy yes. Unlike other semi weighted keybeds korg's keybed has pleasantly surprised me very much. It is IMO much better than most lower end weighted keys like yamaha ghs because those just put artificial weight that is a poor simulation of real hammer action. This is especially true when it comes to playing on the inside of the keys, the resistance is too much and not at all realistic. Its so portable and that's a bonus. I have so far owned a Yamaha clp 535, heaviest action i have tried and don't recommend it to anyone. Then i "downgraded" to yamaha p125. The action was slightly lighter and less fatiguing to play. I preferred it over the clp 535. But the resistance on the inside of the keys was still very high which gets in the way of playing some chords quickly and some diploma level pieces with fast fingerwork. I have been able to do everything i wanted with the liano so far including diploma level classical pieces from bach, scarlatti to Mozart. Romantic pieces may require more sensitivity but can still be acceptably done on the liano. I would 100% recommend the korg liano. Best piano purchase so far. Your 5 year olds little fingers will thank you for it. The downside i would say is the speakers and sample sound. Coming from the Yamahas the speakers feel lower quality. But it sounds pretty good with headphones/external speakers. The actual sound of the sampled piano is good on both. Most would prefer the sound on Yamaha because of sympathetic resonance that's absent in the korg. Korg's piano sound is rich but slightly feels artificial while Yamaha's sounds more authentic. Its something like taking photos with iPhone vs dslr. iPhone makes everything look pretty but dslr gives you the real natural colours. I have both yamaha p125 and korg liano with me right now but i keep finding myself gravitating towards the liano simply because it feels so good to play! That's coming from a guy who is so picky about sounds.

Much better than probably its closest competitor the Roland Go 88, and a lower price to boot. - The action is very playable and actually enjoyable and also superior IMO to the Roland Go 88, and with more voices. Also I found with the Roland Go 88 the sustain dropped off too quickly and if you ran up the keyboard on a scale by the end you go to the higher notes the bass notes has already stopped playing. This Korg is much better in that regard. - The weight is a dream at just over 6kg for busking and travelling which is mainly what I bought it for. When you do use it with batteries the AAs keep the weight down compared with needing x6 D cells which weigh over 1kg on their own. The bad / a few niggles - What's with all the C# and D# keys being spaced further apart than expected and off-centre to the middle of the white keys either side? Doesn't really affect playability but it does look very strange. - I've noticed than when powered by six rechargable AA batteries, the volume is noticeably quieter. It's great for playing round the house, in the garden and with headphones. But for busking the drop in volume on rechargeable batteries might be an issue. Possibly may be better with alkaline batteries but then I don't want to keep buying new packs of batteries every 8 hours or so of playing. I am looking into options in powering the DC directly with a DC battery pack providing 12V so it has the same volume as mains when I'm on the go. - When you use the reverb and metronome buttons for function, such as transpose which I use all the time, it seems to also switch the reverb on and off so you have to remember to switch it again. Every time you transpose or use a function. Also there's no visual way at all to tell if the reverb is on or off, even the button doesn't visually seem to depress. - Would love line out in addition to headphones. Still need to get a cable to be able to use the headphones to two outputs into an external speaker, but when I do that it's going to mute the internal speakers which is a shame since it'd be nice to hear those as monitors whilst outputting to a more powerful speaker or PA. I'd happily pay another $100 or maybe even more for an upgraded model if they could sort a few of these niggles out. Particularly a dedicated function button, reverb and a few other indicator lights, proper line out and would be nice if the AA batteries would be able to pump out the same volume as main. Don't get me wrong it's a great keyboard, great value for the money, and is 90% awesome it would just have been nice to have these few extras, even if it's a higher price.

Many of the things you listed that you would 'like to have' added to the product, are part of the very things that were left out in order to offer this instrument at the current low price! Things like line outputs are nice, but using an adapter cable can give you the same result. Additional buttons, more control over reverb and a few other indicator lights also add to the cost of building the product - and that's after the enormous amount of money needed for the initial design and molds.

Thanks for your Pros and Cons. So which style batteries do you recommend? Alkaline?
@WayneJoyce1973

@@michellemonet4358 Hi. Alkaline batteries are generally not rechargeable, so I haven't tried them. They may offer a bit more volume than rechargeable AAs which as I've said do give the Liano a notable dip in output. But I don't think it's worth blowing money on non-rechargeable batteries. The volume offered by rechargeable AAs is plenty for personal practice etc. I actually used rechargeable AAs whist camping with the kids and I just had headphones on. I do have a 50000mah external battery which effectively acts as portable mains which I use for busking and garden festivals etc. You can also output the headphones to an external amp (I have a battered powered amp) - but you have to get a wire to output both L and R separately else you might short one of the outputs, and also outputting to an external amp will mute the internal speakers. Hope that helps :)

hello. I would like to ask you if the Liano grand piano sound contains loop sampling to produce a prolonged sustain. I would also like to ask about the semi-heavy keyboard. is it the same as the chrome ex model? thank you

thanks for such a lively candid demo. um, the 8 demo's are nice, but shouldn't the demo sound be repeatable in real life too? the last demo number 8 @19:34, the strings clearly had piano layered...

The Liano is capable of playing back MIDI files which can be layered. Many manufacturers do this with their demos.

Is this piano a good choice for intermediate player??

Yes. Set the touch to hard instead of medium. Check the manual on how to change touch settings. You can play classical pieces with a significant amount of expression.

@@jerryx2000 as a classical pianist you definitely need more than 61 keys as an intermediate player. Most pieces beyond grade 3 level will need more than the 61 key range. For contemporary piano it depends on the style you are going for. If you are planning to just do chord comping 61 keys may be enough. Yamaha np15 would be a better choice if you need just 61 keys. I haven't tried the Roland so can't tell you about the action. The Roland Go 61 as well as 88 keys is more expensive than the Liano and 1 kg heavier. Having said all that, the Liano action has impressed me quite a bit and the sound of the piano over headphones/external speakers is very pleasing. The onboard speakers are a little meh imo. Will defo recommend it if you need 88 keys.

how did the strings demo have a layered sound of piano too? that it doesn't layer is my only holdout on this keyboard.. Can it layer a sound from the module? I use strings and piano a lot at my solo gigs! Need a lighter piano at 75 yrs ..

The board won't do layers just by sitting at the piano and playing it. It WILL do layers if you're playing back a MIDI file that calls for it (Most MIDI-capable boards will do that). So including that as part of their demo is actually accurate. Many song-writers use their DAW's to compose songs this way, so the demo actually does show what the instrument can do 'as is'.
