@@CarltonMoxley Interesting observation which has some partial truth to it. General overall mood prior to getting the cameras rolling probably has a lot more to do with how much of the song I'll play. Also if I play it at the beginning of the video or if it's going to be a lengthy video, I'll normally only play the opening portion. But there definitely is some truth to your observation - quite astute!

I spent a half hour with the 7000 yesterday. Love the art deco design and the keybed does feel a lot better than the 1000. That said, I was quite disappointed with the speakers. I played it alongside a Yamaha P515 at a dealer and felt the quality of the speakers on the 515 made for a much bigger, richer, and more detailed sound than the Casio 7000. (I'm also on the fence regarding controls. The 7000 requires a lot of menu diving and use of the wheel. It makes the top panel look beautifully minimal and modern, but it takes five times as long to set up a simple split or layer.) I'm glad Casio has continued improving their products, but they seem to have prioritized design over usability. Casio wins the design award, but I don't feel like they quite challenge the others in terms of sound and usability.
@PianoManChuck
@PianoManChuck 2 жыл бұрын
Actually setting up a layer or split is quite easy - no menu diving needed. Simply hit F3 for Split, or F4 for Layer. Once you've done that, simply choose what instrument you want for the lower portion of the split or the for the layer (hit 'enter' twice to present sound category groups to narrow down your search before using the jog wheel). Quite simple. Often-used functions that you might have to menu dive for can easily be assigned to one of the Function 'buttons' or one of the panel selection buttons on the left. Refer to this the next time you try out a PX-S7000. As for the speakers, make sure its set to match the location of the keyboard in the room (wall, desk, etc).

@@PianoManChuck Thanks for the explanation! I'm so used to being able to sit down and figure out other boards, I didn't think to ask for the manual. I didn't realize there were different settings for the speakers, but we did try it against the wall and turned away. I'll be back in the store next week and will try some other things out. (The one thing I couldn't figure out was whether or not you could save different settings for the function buttons or different arp presets for various sounds.)

Ive been looking for a stage piano of this kind, as Ive moved out from home, wanna continue playing (classical) piano but don't have much space in my room. I very early came across the Privia series. The 3100 seemed to be very good candidate, however reviews and complaints about the action have concerned me. Would you say this is a major upgrade in terms of the action and would you say it's worth the higher price for someone who plays a lot of classical music like me? thanks for the vid :)

welcome back Chuck. Top review as always, very detailed! May I ask why did you not include the Korg SV-2s (The model with built in speakers)? Is it worse so it didn't make top 5?
@PianoManChuck
@PianoManChuck 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. Korg SV-2s is a great board, but its oriented and aimed at those looking for retro sounds like e.piano, wurly, etc. Its aimed so much at that market they even include a real vacuum tube to produce tube distortion effects. Good piano sounds too, just not very much geared strictly towards pianists.

That was a great comparison. I'm considering the PX-S3100 just for cost. How do the sounds on the PX-S6000 compare to that? Do the extra two speakers make a big difference with regards to the bass?
@PianoManChuck
@PianoManChuck 2 жыл бұрын
The piano sounds on the PX-S6000 are a vast improvement over the 3100, along with many of the other sounds. I never really use the built-in speakers but its also supposed to be improved. The major improvement (besides the sound) is in the newly redesigned key action.

Does the px-s5000 use the same sensing procedure as the 6000 and 7000? I'm on a budget, and frankly, I don't require tons of other sounds.. I just prefer the Hamburg.. and anything else for me is "icing on the cake". I do know that the 5000 uses 192 note polyphony.
@PianoManChuck
@PianoManChuck 2 жыл бұрын
All three boards (PX-S7000 / 6000 / 5000) use the same, identical new key action. But the 7000 & 6000 are in a new redesigned case as well (the 5000 retains the older casing) which results in a slightly quieter action for the 7000 & 6000. Also, the 5000 does not have a display screen - all changes/functions are done with a button + keyboard key combination. You are correct that the 5000 has 192-note polyphony, the 7000 & 6000 have 256-note polyphony.

Do I understand correctly that this keyboard series does not include accompaniment?
@Instrumental-Covers
@Instrumental-Covers 2 жыл бұрын
The only PX-S model with accompaniment is the PX-S3100. And that's only 2 variations using the old AiR engine. A better choice for accompaniment styles, within the Casio family, would be the newer models CT-S410/500, which use the AiX engine, but they still have only 2 variations. The models that have 4 variations are CT-X3000 and CT-X5000. Casio accompaniments change very abruptly from Variation 1 to Variation 2 in all models equipped with only 2 variations. A digital piano that provides all 4 variations is the Yamaha DGX-670, which have styles from the PSR-S series. The Korg XE-20 also has 4 variations, but they use the old engine found in the Korg PA60 model (20 years old) instead of using the new PA series engine. The Kawai ES920 has some accompaniment functionality (100 styles, which is less than half than the DGX-670) but only 2 variations. All in all, if accompaniment styles are important, the best choice is the Yamaha DGX-670.

@@eliasbispo2113 The DGX-670 is an arranger digital piano. It has over 600 tones and close to 300 styles, each with 4 variations. It has better speakers than most digital pianos, a large color screen, 256 notes of polyphony, 16-track sequencer, Bluetooth audio, USB audio interface, Piano Room, Virtual Resonance engine for the CFX, etc. The action in that model is the GHS, which is comparable to other plastic actions in that price point. The DGX-670 allows you to play with a full accompaniment band following you. It is a lot of fun to play.

I was planning on getting a 3100 but Im wondering if the 5000 would make a difference for me, putting my money in the better action instead of sounds.. Its my first weight action but Im 57 so I want to buy the right one the 1st time. Great review as always 👍👍👍

There's really nothing to review on the 5000. Its basically a stripped down version of the 6000 with only 23 sounds (as opposed to 350), and no display screen. Same excellent key action and premium piano sample (Hamburg Grand) as the 6000.
