Can you explain primary dominate?
@Rexbrett17 ай бұрын
@@KNIGHTJUMPSprimary dominant chords come from the fifth degree of a any given diatonic key. So the structure of a diatonic key has seven chords the I-ii-iii-IV-V-vi-vii the 1-4 and 5 chords are major the 2-3-6 are minor chords and the 7 is diminished. The thing is about the dominant chord even though it is derived from the 5th degree of the scale its is not a diatonic chord due to the the flat 7 so if you are in the key of c the 5 chord will be g major G-B-D but if you add F to the chord G-B-D-F the diatonic five chord turn into a dominant chord which is actually a non diatonic chord borrowed from another key. The function or purpose of the dominant chord is to signal musically that its time to return back to the tonic or one chord. That is it basic use but the dominant chord can be used in other functions as well but that’s a different topic hope this helps.

you'd make it sound even more gospel-ey by playing it as C E7/B A- to provide some chromatic bass movement, which is ESSENTIAL for gospel. All you did here was a secondary dominant, which is helpful for gospel, but is featured in many genres, esp jazz. If you really wanna spice it up, add the tritone substitute of E7 -> Bb7. So: C E7/B Bb7 A- or if you're feeling frisky C E7/B Bb7alt A-

Instead of using an E7, we can also use a Bdim. It will have the same tritone and a similar tension, and the bass will move back linearly. It sounds good too.
Yeah @James Michael you might be thinking of Bb7. The tritone of B dim (B D F) is B and F while the tritone of E7 is G# and D. The tritone of Bb7 is Ab and D, which is sonically identical to G# and D of E7. What makes the movement E7/Bb7 to Am so strong is the G#/Ab resolving up to A and the D down to C. B dim only has a B and D in common with E7... but if you look at E7b9 (E G# B D F), which functions the exact same way, then you would have that B-F tritone

playing the guitar and playing the piano isn't serving,following,obeying God Jesus Christ you had better go pray if you think you are somehow serving Jesus by sitting in a chuch building playing the guitar because that isn't doing the will of the Father God and you isn't obeying,serving,following Jesus by sitting in a chuch pew and you isn't doing it by standing in a pulpit Jesus Christ Himself said recorded Jesus's words recorded in the john part of the bible Jesus said be NOT like the hypocrites who pray in public places like the synagogues and on the street corners to have themselves seen by others then Jesus made it quite clear how we should pray and worship Him in spirit and in truth and in private like our own bedroom internet search the word synagogue it is the same exact thing as a chuch building according to Jesus Christ Himself all of you church attenders are a bunch of hypocrites ya'll really should go repent and pray to Jesus for truth and help from Him be very wise of ya'll indeed

The E7 is what’s called a secondary dominant, in this example, V7 of vi … The 6th note of the C-scale is A … Using that A to start a new (secondary) scale, the 5th note (as a 7th chord) is E7 … This is standard in college level theory. I’ve been writing clever sound-a-like songs for my piano students for nearly 25 of my 35 years teaching. One of my songs is a gospel tune I call, “The Grapefruit Gospel”. While it has the typical elements of gospel, I didn’t analyze it when I wrote it. I just wrote it by ear. Eventually I did analyze it, and noticed secondary dominants all over it! College courses don’t typically present all the uses of the secondary dominant, so kudos to you Lisa for making your viewers aware of a great one!😀👍🎹

A nice easy trick idea is to harmonize the pentatonic scale. Using only pentatonic notes. In the key of C Major this is basically all the inversions you can think of only 2 chords! C major and D minor. You only play triads. Combine that with any bass on left hand of C, D,, F,, G, A. Instant gospel goodness.
