Pogorelich is like Michelangelo, every detail is chiseled to perfection, and the end result is a marvelous work of art... Luminoso!

I really don't understand why he doesn't play this repertoire today. His understanding of the importance of a basic pulse in baroque music is unrivalled. And that staccato technique! So varied, so nuanced and expressive. Gould is so arid in comparison. He should dedicate himself more to Bach and Scarlatti, rather than Rachmaninov and Chopin. He'd be a healthier and less troubled person.

Horowitz's Scarlatti is like Gould's Bach: focus is upon the performer. Pogorelich's Scarlatti, like everything else he plays, focus on the composer.

i dont agree about Gould, he absolutely adores Bach, but i do agree about Pogo, 100%, and Horowitz...
@QuocBinh-us7lb2 ай бұрын
@@eytonshalomsandiegoNo? In his own words Gould explained why he preferred the studio to the concert stage...cutting, splicing, joining this little bit to that little bit, all through the night with his technician cronies who were always at his beck & call... can't do all that onstage in front of an audience. The result is always fascinating, and fooled even 'Bach experts', though not people like Rosalyn Tureck.

not sure about the horowitz thing, you can tell he took into consideration the time periods and composers he was playing, even to the point where he would make the piano sound similar to a harpsichord or fortepiano, whereas gould always changed things and mocked certain pieces he disliked by playing them badly (not to say horowitz didnt change things to his liking, its just i think usually when he played something differently than others might it was more effective in a good way and never to the extent of gould). i guess you could say pogorelich plays in a more ideal baroque manner though probably better to follow if youre learning any of these pieces. i also think horowitz had a much nicer tone than gould
