LESSON SUMMARY
Do you ever feel that your piano accompaniment sounds repetitive or boring? Or maybe you feel your sound is missing something or feels amateurish compared to the professional recordings you listen to. This is quite a common issue for beginner pianists and those early on in their musical journey. Interestingly, many pianists fall under the same accompaniment traps, which in this lesson we'll call the "7 signs of an amateur accompanist." In this lesson, you'll learn:
-The 7 signs of an amateur accompanist
-Solutions to getting a more professional accompaniment sound
-Awesome piano techniques such as interesting left-hand patterns, rhythmic patterns, fills, and techniques for richer harmony
-The bigger picture, how to put all the techniques together and create a professional arrangement of a song

Hi Jonny. Can you do similar tutorial on jazz comping? How to make it more interesting?

Cool. First correction you made the remedy reminds me exactly of LH on Titanic by James Horner.( not same key) After years of sight reading you automatically do some of these because of good composers who proceeded you.

I've been playing for over 40 years, pretty traditional then classical and jazz training. This is gold. Never really had a pop accompanist perspective, and you really lay it out there simply and clearly. Liked and subscribed. THANK YOU!

This was extremely helpful. Being self taught off of youtube it is easy to find the basics. But this information a level deeper to sound more professional and less generic is extremely valuable. Thank you!

Jonny understands what is at the heart of music: telling a story. We’re not just tapping keys in clever ways, it’s that we have something to say, and he’s one of the best I’ve seen at helping us bring those stories to life. Thanks Jonny!!

Im that amateur pianist. Very educational, accessible and straight to the point without sacrificing clarity. Sobering to humble myself and accept i can do better. And not only could both players and composers learn from this video but content creators too. No nonsense. Just helpful practical tips. I appreciate these great tips so im writing this comment out of gratitude. But now i need to absorb this new information and let it make me a better composer and pianist. Cheers again. Cant emphasize how much i appreciate your work.

I was expecting a accompaniment like in a band setting, but everything you played was outstanding. I am a beginner/intermediate bassist, where the 4 chord progression one of the most boring things to listen to, and you made Pop progressions sound interesting, bright, and alive. This video was so much fun just listening to you play.

Thank you so very much Jonny, that was another well defined and demonstrated and clearly put across the four methods of such useful grooves to make it all more comprehensive and understandable..., you must be completely clear headed and well- balanced to be able to make so much sense..., please keep up the great work 😑😌🙂
