I think people need to calm down a bit on Piastri he is a great talent NO DOUBT but he still has a lot to learn and as much as people have been sayin he will beat Norris we are still waiting and he is struggling to beat him even for 2 race weekends in a row for example , someone like Leclerc was beating a 4 time world champion in his 2nd year in F1 already and almost won a race in his 2nd race for Ferrari , I think there is a Piastri recency bias cause his the only "good" rookie we've had in a while in f1 lol since your Landos , George and Alex's

It’s not really hype, most are backing Oscar currently, on the futures market, given what he’s been able to do and the speed he’s shown, in just 30 odd GP’s of experience. And the way I’m seeing it, seeing the big picture, he’s looking like some proper blue chip stock to me.

@@MechanicalSculptor Until the expectations of Oscar are fulfilled, the word hype is applicable. Too many drivers have failed to meet expectations. Let's hope Oscar is not one of them.

@@robertnowac8094 Are “expectations”, to win a WDC, or something else? Because if it’s winning a WDC before your career is done, then a lot of other drivers receiving praise for their skills are therefore currently hyped - Charl, Lando, George, Alex, Carlos …. Are all of these guys hyped? I think it’s fine to speculate upon what you currently see and where someone is potentially headed, without it necessarily being hype. It’s why I used the futures market metaphor, it’s like speculation with an education, other than hype that’s tied to little more that hope.

@@MechanicalSculptor IMO, hyped is not a bad word and it, too, is an educated projection of what one could achieve. That happens with many drivers to varying degrees. I think it's safe to say that Oscar has been hyped to become a high achieving driver. Charles and Lando have been hyped as championship worthy drivers. Semantics aside, I think we are on the same page.

To be fair. Russell and Hamilton are also currently a very strong team. I know team LH hates Russell and LH doesn't seem to get along with Merc anymore, but the car is improving fast and I can see them both gaining a lot more points this season. They'll probably both end up with a similar amount of points and a very decent Constructors total.

Under cool and wet conditions, Montreal is the first time Merc has been on the podium this season. It might have been Merc's best opportunity to win a race. Barcelona will likely tell a very different story.

Marko said recently they are the best lineup and in Lando, a year ago, he was the only young driver with the allround talent capable of being on terms with Max. In Lando is very fast (confirmed by Piastri when interviewed), consistent and superb race and tyre management. In Oscar you have great speed and capable of beating Lando on his day in qualifying. He is also a cool head. As you said his weakness is his race and tyre management in the GP. After 38 races it should have improved and it hasnt, witness Lando gapping the field at one point last Sunday something we dont see from Oscar. However with Lando they are a formidable young duo and drive for a team on the up.

Imho, you are dancing around it. I believe it’s consistency & Lando/Oscar are working AS a TEAM vs the issues at: every team BUT McLaren; thus, they can move forward.

Oscar is excellent but I think a real question exists as to whether he'd ever be able to beat Lando, over a season in a McLaren. It's not just that Lando is really good, it's the nature of this McLaren which from what drivers have said in the past is probably the largest understeer characteristic of any car on the grid. I think more than anything else, Danny Ric didn't take that into account when he signed for McLaren or at least thought he could adapt his oversteer/front-wing bias. But when you are fighting for 100ths against the very best to ever do it you've got no chance. I mean that to, not in natural talent terms but this generation with carting & realistic sim work have probably clocked X50 the wheel hours of previous generations of drivers. In the past drivers on the grid could have fundamental technique gaps, now they have data traces from every driver and unlimited sim time to replicate it. Lando has stated on many occasions that he doesn't like having to handbrake to turn the car, unlike Carlos who liked the McLaren characteristics. But the fact is that Lando is gifted & he's been with the team driving a car of these characteristics since he was a child. So he has a massive home field advantage even against a huge talent like Oscar, where Oscar can only really compete at certain circuits.

McLaren have the best pairing currently which should only get better into the future. Oscar has been somewhat unlucky this year and should be sitting on around 105-110 points based on expected results. If mclaren keep updating the car and maximise race strategy they should take out the constructors. We should have a very competitive remainder of the sesson with 4 teams vying for podiums but the mclaren and redbull seem to be best on all types of tracks.

He's definitely on par in an incredibly short amount of time. Whether he will surpass is another question. He will most likely only get better over time, but at the moment his tire management game is his weakness imo.

Results say otherwise. Lando leads head to head qualifying 7-4 (incl sprints). Race pace wise, Lando has a noticeable advantage at the moment.

@@bjs7442 That's a very silly comment. He didn't get good on the last race. He's been good since he started in F1 and has had good chances of winning a GP. Norris has 3 times more experience in F1, so I do expect Norris to be better, but it's not a large difference.

The reason for Mclarens woes over the years is that Andrea Stella was supposed to be leading them in the first place. A clerical error led to Andreas Seidls appointment

I am surprised you are negatively judging Ferrari/Leclerc/Sainz just after ONE BAD RACE w/end whilst last week you were singing their praises as possible championship contenders ! A little premature me thinks ! They may come back and win the next race !! Moreover it's not unlike the Merc Situation where after ONE decent W/E in Canada everyone is claiming they are back & ready for bigger things ???One swallow doesn't make a summer & Canada may have just been a lucky W/E with favorable weather/ track conditions that suited them, and a Huge TOW Russell got from Albon to get Pole. Performance Trends take time to evolve, let us see how they will perform in Spain & other upcoming circuits ???

We will have to see how next year at Ferrari for Lewis. He will have the racing engineer for Sainz, Ricardo Adami. Adami has worked with Vettel and Minardi. Will the same history of Ferrari's odd strategy decisions be waiting for Lewis since nothing changes as far as his racing engineer in 2025?

Oscar is extremely talented and has loads of potential but last year and this year Lando has consistently beat him more often than not. Oscar is definitely top 5 on the grid behind Max, Lewis, Alonso, Lando and Charles.
