@@myname-mz3lo incorrect.. a piccolo is either a single or double shot with 2oz or so of milk. A latte is either a single or double shot with 5-6oz or so of milk. The strength of the coffee does not change, only the amount of milk.

I thought the other main point of a piccolo was that it’s a short shot giving it a slightly different flavor cause it’s just the first part of the extraction; is that wrong?

yes . the first part of extraction is sour . they use ristretto wich still runs in 30 sec . but it is more bitter and syrupy

In the UK these two drinks are different in every coffee shop. You’re better off just asking specifically what you want (e.g., ‘double espresso with a small amount of foamed milk) and let them tell you what they call it.

That doesnt really make sense. If a piccolo is served in a 90ml glass and its 1/3 espresso, then how can a cortado be served in an even larger glass and still be stronger? For example if it was served in a 120ml glass then it would be 60ml of espresso? Normal espresso doubles are around 40mls. For a cortado to be stronger and be a 1:1 ratio it would have to be served in an 80ml glass

Thats not a Spanish cortado, i would be annoyed if i got a 1:1 ratio of coffee to milk, should be closer to 2:1 or 3:1 coffee to milk. Cortado literally means cut, as in just a tiny dash of milk
