hi Colleen in Spanish the letter v is often pronounced as a “b” sound to English speakers, that is probably why some folks look like they’re saying “usnaby” but in Spanish it would still be “usnavy”. And for English speakers mimicking them they may not be aware that they would pronounce it differently 😊

I can see how the pronunciation of Usnavi would be irksome; however, as a fluent Spanish speaker and fellow theatre lover, I have to say it isn't technically incorrect since in Spanish 'v' is pronounced as a soft /b/ and conversely 'b' is often pronounced as /v/. yes it is exactly this reason, in Mexico especially. Hispanic/Latin people tend to say the “v” as a “b.” In mexico we say Bictor instead of Victor, even if the name is spelled like Victor with a V, we pronounce it as Bictor.
