I went with 50 mm since it’s the focal length I’m used to using on my phone , whenever I use the main lens on my phone which is about 26 I don’t like how much is in the photo and always crop. The end of the day, the photos are for me, I put em up on instagram sure but it’s to how I see the world.

@ As a noob, I have trouble getting crisp photos SOOC. Maybe you can talk about getting sharp photos that aren't “get your triangle right.” (although I know that is a huge part of it.) Maybe specific settings that will help? And which scenarios?

My Sony 40mm f/2.5 G is my most used prime lens, very good sweet spot between 35 and 50. My main zoom lenses are my 24-70 and 100-400. I will say though, that I really miss not having a 24-120 f/4 (when I had a Nikon). Wish Sony would make one. fwiw, I mostly shoot landscape. 🙂

Thanks for sharing your most used lenses. I love hearing about the 40mm and 100-400 as they're different than what I mainly use so I'll have to give them a try! That 40mm sweet spot seems really nice for landscapes.

Sony does have a 24-105 but it’s not quite as long as your Nikon 🤪

@ Yeah, I looked at the Sony 24-105 - it would probably be okay on a lower resolution sensor, but it's getting a bit dated now.. I mostly shoot landscape with my 61MP a7RIV so I got the Sony 24-70 f/2.8 GM II to do a better job with that high resolution. It's a great lens but not cheap..

Here's the thing no matter which focal length you got, be it prime or a zoom, you can always make it work, it's human instinct and It's all in the mind, I can get away with just my 28mm 1.4 on travel, one lens.... Also having a generous megapixel helps for cropping too

The Sony A7RV is awesome like that, you can crop like crazy!

Not photography but: there's something weird about your audio. It may be clipping and there's often a high pitched ring / echo. Maybe try positioning the mic a bit lower.

There is NO ideal focal length for landscape ! THAT I can tell with 45 years of experience with Landscape Photography, it all depends of where, when, how and why, you can use Lenses from ultra wide to super tele. The best portrait Lenses are short tele Lenses.
