Most youtube painting channels are fawning about OSL, slapchop, oil washes, blanchitsu or any other flavor of the month. But on your channel people get to learn the stuff to actually finish paining armys. Keep up the great work and thank you very much again. 🙂

Even if I still think it's a goofy bloody name that took off for it, the fact that so many people are now aware of and giving slapchop a try isn't a *bad* thing by any stretch; it's certainly quicker than busting out the oil paints! There's room for all kinds of style, after all... but I haven't the time to be getting out an airbrush and oils and all that carry on!

Yea whenever I see people on Reddit looking for beginner friendly painting guides I always point them towards this channel for those exact reasons.

This is also something I love about Sonic Sledgehammer's tutorials. It's all down to using a coloured primer, applying solid basecoats, washing with an appropriate shade, and then applying some high-impact highlights. No nonsense, just good, honest painting advice.

@SonicSledgehammerStudio Slapchop by itself is an completely fine tool. But it's not the super painting hack some channels say it is (who seem to have built their entire youtube fame around it). Because those people deny one basic fact: It just takes time and effort to get good. I was absolutely terrible when I started painting miniatures six years ago. And it took me literally hundreds of miniatures to become a somewhat okayish painter over those years. That's plays into one of the reasons I like your channel so much: I have absolutely zero inherent talent for painting, but here I don't find any gatekeeping, just easy to apply techniques and positive encouragement.

This just highlights one of the things people waaaaaay too hung up - namely when new to painting. The idea that you need to paint every "thing" a different colour. This ends up making most models look way too busy and nonsensical.

I still use your Cadian Sgt video from about 5 years ago as my go-to reference!! I've got a good selection of Citadel and Valllejo standard paints and really don't want to start buying more paints and going down the contrast road as most people seem to. The classic Cadian Zandri Dust and Castellan Green still holds up - plus all my Imperial Guard so far is that scheme so don't really want to start making changes. I slightly prefer Castellen to Vulcan Green for uniforms/tanks but started using Vucan for weapons and other bits on a few models. Ive got loads of unpainted Cadians still so will give this a one a trial. Your old Stormvermin paint guide was a particularly useful one for me too. I find your vids far easier to follow than most!

I've been wanting to paint my Guard in the colours of WW1 & 2 armies, and they are mostly mono colour, so this helps.

These Reptilian Overlord dudes are quite something. I've amassed quite a bit of them. I actually like the look of them more than the new Cadians. However, I'm not too sold on the Reptilian Overlord faces.

Awesome video as always. The minis look great, any way to get them in Europe without a printer? Seems the only sellers on Etsy are in the UK or North America.

Check the '3D Printers' tab on the main Reptilian Overlords site; they've got French, German and Spanish printers listed there as well.

Perfect: I've never liked the idea of having Guard all dolled up in clashing colours like Cadians (well, I say clashing... clashing for a warzone, is what I mean). Everything should be drab and similar colours (think world war 2 or Vietnam-era) so it makes it harder for them to be seen- they've got a rubbish enough time of it being the squishiest thing on the battlefield without their uniform giving their position away! My current scheme is based on Halo: ODST uniforms, so basically lots of black and dark grey, with the occasional deep colour on the pauldrons to indicate squad type (dark red for Tactical, dark blue for support, that sort of thing). It looks cool from a distance, and is VERY forgiving for those of us who aren't particularly steady of hand or clear of eye.

I think the Cadians *juuust* squeak under the line of 'reasonable' since they're inspired by the proliferation of US Army equipment during WWII, but even then, the black or brown leather equipment is just adding more gumpfh to the list of things to paint! 😅 Catachans come close to reasonable until the red bandana comes out, but so help me, I can't help but love the goofy splashes of red on them.
@peterclarke7240
@peterclarke7240 Жыл бұрын
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio Oh, the red looks fabulous, but in the grim darkness of the far future, there is apparently only war. No mention of fashion shows! Also, for me, brown pouches indicates leather... I just can't imagine the Imperium would spend money on leather gear for their cannon fodder, not if cheap olive drab nylon is available. Plus, nylon is easy to wash the gore and chunks of brain off and sew up the holes from where some hellish warp spawn bit the previous owner in two. 🤣

Thank you for an excellent, simple paint scheme reminiscent of the older cadian scheme of the 2000's AND exactly what I'm looking for my Wargames Atlantic Canon Fodder based IG army👍☺ (with Bolt Action WW2 German armoured support 😉).

It's a sort of return to IG's origins, when the classic paint scheme was codex grey for the uniforms and black/very dark grey or blue for armour & helmets. Good idea specifying various environments ' versions in the description.👍

I used a three color method for my The Doomed team. besides metal for their knightly armor and black, I kept to a red and two leather colors. I find limiting my pallet makes my warbands look a little more cohesive in a way and helps speed up the painting since I've already thought ahead AND I don't have so many options.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio Жыл бұрын
I think going into something with a plan and taking the 'What next?' out of painting is one of the easiest ways to speed up the whole process. While you've got the paintbrush and water out and can just bam-bam-bam from one step to the next mindlessly while you're listening to something, that's the winner.

Just incase you dont know army painter washes have less pigment so dont really need thinning out like youve done here with citadel. I use them so i dont have to re apply all the base coats again
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio Жыл бұрын
I use a fair bit of both manufacturers and I still thin out my Army Painter stuff for the same reason; I just want it to tint the recesses and dull the colour a little, and the washes neat from the pot are still a little dark for purpose to how I want them to look.
