Hello, This type of pick-to-light application is ideal for areas where medium to high velocity SKUs are grouped together in dedicated pick line. The goal is to increase pick rate efficiency by reducing time wasted walking and reading. Employees picking orders are assigned a zone in the line, and ideally wouldn’t leave until the order wave or their shift is complete. Or volume has decreased and they’re reassigned to another task in the DC. I'm wondering whether the employee can pick multiple orders at the same time. Because, if not, it will take a lot of time just to confirm order by order!!

Hi Noura, A zone-based 'pick and pass' methodology allows multiple orders to be picked at once. Or, you can do batch or cluster picking to accomplish multi-order per picker methods. There’s no verification process for how many units are being picked. Although the screen shows a quantity of 5, there is no guarantee you picked 5 units before pressing complete. Especially in a fast-paced environment I can see many mistakes being made here. Unless there were scales under each of the product storage bins to verify the reduction of weight per unit with each pick, and the light wouldn’t shut off until the weight matched the system… Is there an option for a procedure like this?

Scaling the product should absolutely be done, but this is also frequently done in a wave format as another check on the quality. We ran this system in Pharma with batches of up to 400 orders at a time. You would replenish the roller bins with exactly the right qty needed for all 400 orders. Orders that are shipped are temporarily held in a zone until all 400 orders are packed / shipped. At the end there should be no stock remaining in the rollers. If you have an extra piece, you would reference the order numbers that contained these pieces and correct the packing issue. This is a fantastic system and we used it with smaller orders in the small roller racks, as well as in a case pick format with waves of up to 50 pallets or raw input.

There is usually a pack and or fulfil stage where the order is actually shipped. So the error is usually picked up.
