Nice car. Look me up when it's done. I got a '65 Olds Cutlass, Rocket 350 in central Florida.

I bet someone was VERY proud of their new GP in '65

I was thinking the same thing. How beautiful this must’ve been! Hopefully we will get it looking great again.

The Pontiac Grand Prix can be anything in between and it can run and look handle good if you take care of it

You're going to paint it? That car has beautiful patina. I would leave it alone. It's too bad about it being rusted through in places. I have done quite a few '50s and '60s cars in my life, and they are never simple, depending on what you expect from them. They have always required a complete engine and transmission rebuild, or a rebuilt engine and transmission. Being somewhat of a hot rodder, I usually build a custom engine with a lot more power than stock. The brakes, steering, and suspension always had to be completely replaced, along with a zillion other small things. But I always left the exterior appearance alone. I'm in AZ, so I've never had to deal with badly rusted cars. I'm a mechanic, not a body and paint guy.

Yes, I do think the patina looks cool and I know some people are just clearcoating that look now. But I feel like we will be slowly going toward a full restoration. I know it is going to take a lot.

Dude, if you're going to do a dedecent restoration on t his Pontiac, you should have begun by stripping it down to at least the 3 main components! Otherwise it's going to continue deteriorating while you fix it piecemeal!

It will be inside his shop. He is going to DA the whole car and put it in self etching primer as he works on the metalwork
