Never really understood the difference between EPS and XTR foam. Thanks for making this vlog !
@surfnshowreviews7777
@surfnshowreviews7777 6 жыл бұрын
Mark Yoshida The XTR is a closed cell foam and the EPS is open cell. XTR will not absorb water if you get a ding and EPS will soak it up. XTR is stronger and will last longer. Both are more durable than PU.

Brilliant Insight into XTR and their Build Process and their ability to customise for the individual, I wish Fire Wire had the Insight to customise and Co - Lab with World Class Shapers the way that XTR and Hydroflex have.

Mate, no stress! Your reviews are the most anticipated on youtube........because they're that good and informative. I'm going for a simple 2 board quiver from Firewire as I appreciate their tough, modern construction. I have a Go Fish, now thinking an SKX, Stubby Bastard, or Gamma as a short board. On the verge of an SKX to be honest. I'd do an XTR construction, as that is crazy! But, it's hard for me to arrange that in Aus. No matter.....your reviews shine on this channel. I hope it's working for you!
@surfnshowreviews7777
@surfnshowreviews7777 6 жыл бұрын
Glen Goodwin Cheers for the kind words on our show. Your two board quiver sounds epic. Out of the boards you mentioned the SKX would be my second board for sure. Our show from our perspective is going good from the response of our viewers and we are stoked that our show is helping many surfers. On the side of monetizing it... that’s a whole different story. Hopefully we can figure that out SOON. What keeps us pumped to do this is having fun.... and all the positive feedback from our community. Cheers!!!!

Thanks again Noel for your responses. I'm going to grab the SKX tomorrow. I'm looking for some help on the dimensions if possible? My Go-Fish works great for me at 5'5 29.3L (I'm 5'11, 168-170lbs). I'm tossing up between the 5'10 at 28.7L and the 5'11 at 30.2L. I understand there's talk on the web about going slightly bigger with the SKX, but I wonder, as it will be for better waves (nothing much over 6ft) than the Go Fish, and it's an HP board and not a fish, should I go the 5'10? What are your thoughts?
@surfnshowreviews7777
@surfnshowreviews7777 6 жыл бұрын
Glen Goodwin Sounds like the 5’11” SKX is perfect. This board needs some wave to go good. 3-6’ surf is ideal for the SKX.

Javier rules. XTR was the first to use most of the new carbon & stringerless concepts . The XTR foam which is XPS like Closed cell and will handle water from dings (good luck dinging em) Great flex , they have almost too much float . So order a tad smaller dims.

Great Vlog, so informative. I can't wait to see the difference between the XTR and Firewire LFT techs. I currently have a Sci Fi thats my fav board but starting to de-lam on the deck so looking at maybe getting one in XTR.

After about 8 months, which is good as far boards go. Not sure how it happened but first I got a little blister, then 2, now there is 3 and all getting bigger. Apparently its a common problem with them but I am not complaining as the board is 14 months old and still in one piece.

nothing against XTR, boards are great, BUT what for is good a few degassing pinholes in closed cell foam ? in this closed cell extruded polystyrene no air or gas can really flow anywhere, so for real degassing you would need a pinhole every mm or two,,,

Awesome video. How come epoxy resin repairs don't need to be cured in an oven though? Had to do one a few weeks ago & the base coat and hot coat both seemed to harden fine overnight.. are they not actually fully cured?
@surfnshowreviews7777
@surfnshowreviews7777 6 жыл бұрын
Sam Birchenough From What Javier said... it will harden but it takes roughly 4 months for it to cure. Not sure a ding repair needs to be cured... just make sure it hardens and you should be good.

It depends on the formula . . . Epoxies like solar rez epoxy, only needs light (sunlight or UV) to cure. Other epoxies come in two part formulas (catalyst + resin) that you have to mix, like standard polyester resin for surfboards, before it will cure over time. Javier uses the one that needs heat to cure. IIRC the heat cure epoxy was one of the more stable resins (didn't yellow or was too stiff) after Grubby Clark incident when EPS was being explored.

Terry Coulits we are still working on this review. Not much for waves this winter sorry. I am learning the SKX in LFT and XTR need some wave to go good. This model feels good in 3’ surf and bigger. Hang in there we have a swell coming next week. Cheers

Thanks Noah. I will be interested to hear about your review. If you wouldn't mind giving the SKX a comparison against the Hayden Shapes Holy Grail I'd really appreciate it as im tossing up between these 2 models. Cheers. Terry
@surfnshowreviews7777
@surfnshowreviews7777 6 жыл бұрын
Terry Coulits The Holy Grail is a better daily Driver for waves in the 1-6’ range. The SKX is a legit performance board and goes good in 3-6’ surf. That comment right there should help you make your decision.

Last bit of advice for me Noah. I am a fit 50 year old , consider myself to be a intermediate-advanced surger (been surfing over 40 years) , weigh 150lbs and am 5'7"but need a bit more paddle advantage in the surf these days!! What size board/volume would you recommend for me in the Holy Grail?
@surfnshowreviews7777
@surfnshowreviews7777 6 жыл бұрын
Terry Coulits I think the 5’8” sounds good if you need the extra volume. The 5’7” sounds a bit high performance....

Ive been trying to contact XTR via email. Their Aussie contact doesnt work, so I contacted head office twice now but still no reply. I just want to know if I can order a Tomo / Slater Cymatic in XTR, & what options to use on the XTR website order form. I think the price will be about $1650 AUD so its not a small amount Im wanting to spend with XTR but Im excited to get my hands on one of these things. Any chance you could give the guys a nudge for me to answer their emails ?
