Thanks for visiting the Freshcutky organic gardening channel. In the garden, I will answer some of the most common "gardening for beginners" type questions I get, including growing flowers from seed. Growing greens, growing flowers, and planting beautiful organic food is something I'm really passionate about. Thank you for joining me as I learn to grow flowers, cut flowers, vegetables, and much more. Freshcutky youtube channel and related media are for entertainment purposes only.
Many ornamental flowers and cut flowers are TOXIC. ALWAYS do your own research and take responsibility for the plants that you introduce around your kids, pets, and everyone else. Use common sense when handling plant materials: wear gloves, always wash hands, avoid contact with face, etc. NEVER consume any plant which has not been positively identified with complete certainty to be safe and edible. Before planting anything, research to determine whether specific flowers are considered invasive where you live or if there are laws that apply to their planting in your area.

I LOVED THIS! Personally, I enjoy the longer videos more because it forces me to sit down and pay attention. I learn more this way. I’ve been researching my tulip options for next year so this was very helpful. All of my fringed tulips have been super short. I don’t think it’s just your soil unless we have the exact same soil. Some of these will definitely be on my order list next month! Thanks!

I really enjoyed this tulip tour! I have not had great luck with tulips in my garden, I need to learn the ways!! live in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, where we have a lot of flower farms. One of them is the tulip farm outside Woodburn. It's a big field of tulips in so many lovely colors! If any of you guys are ever in the area in April, I highly recommend the trip. The farm is about halfway between Portland and Salem, east of Woodburn, which is right on I-5.

I loved hearing your reviews and comments, I absolutely adore tulips and am looking for new varieties to plant in the fall. I’ve resisted planting La Belle Epoques but I think I’ll have to give them a try. Which was your favorite super dark tulip? My favorite is the queen of the night, but I want to try something new. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I also had a few 'Victoria's Secret' tulips that bloomed too late to be in this video. They aren't super dark, but a very pretty dark purple. Definitely one to consider if you like parrot type tulips. Happy gardening! :)

I love, love, love every single variety of tulip that you grew! I had to put the few new ones I purchased last year in pots to avoid the rabbits eating them but the squirrels still dug them out! Oh well, the few that bloomed were very pretty. Not like the ones you have though.

I don't grow Tulips, so I'm not sure if this will help or not... But I do grow Daffodils, and I have found that when I stopped using bone meal (and blood meal too if you use that - or basically any animal product in the soil) that all the animals, including squirrels, stopped digging my Daffs up. This really shouldn't apply to squirrels since they are vegetarians. But for whatever reason, they are no longer attracted to my bulbs.

Another fabulous video. Wow! 😃 I am always amazed by how many flowers you can grow in your backyard!!🌷 I have to ask, from which supplier(s) do you buy your flowers ( your ranunculus, daffodils, tulips and anemones)? Your choices are stunning! The catalogs I offer nothing as beautiful!
@TONYAwiththeflowers
@TONYAwiththeflowers 3 жыл бұрын
I use Dutch Grown for things like tulips and daffodils. The anemones and ranunculus are definitely harder to find. I actually drove over an hour last year to find some Amandine ranunculus corms for sale at a garden center in a different state, LOL!

@TONYAwiththeflowers
@TONYAwiththeflowers 3 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of theories as to why some tulips are so short. Some suggest lack of water or too short period of chilling hours. However, all of my tulips grew under the same conditions and some stems were clearly better than others. That kind of leads me to believe that it's just genetic. Thanks so much for watching! :)

Mornin' Kentucky! ❤ I thought I would chime in on the question of why some flower colors are called Blue instead of Purple. But I feel like I should first add a disclaimer to this whole thing... Mainly bcuz I'm not fluent in the language in question, therefore, I cannot verify if it's actually true! So I'm just going to call this a Theory instead of an actual reason. Soooooo, way back at the beginning of the written language, when Latin was the main thing spoken, and somebody got the bee in their bonnet to start labeling EVERY SINGLE PLANT EVER GROWN ON THIS PLANET, (sheesh, can you imagine having OCD so severely that you HAD to have a name for every single plant!! Ha! Yeah, that's a burden... ) Well... all these plants names were written in Latin. This is why all plants still have Latin names to go with their common names. Bcuz seriously, who wants to rewrite THAT catalog!! Nobody, that's who! And the point is this: Apparently there was no Latin word for Purple. I don't know when that changed, or even if it has changed in Latin. But yeah, that was the reason. The peeps at the time decided the closest color to Purple was Blue. And really, they aren't too far off bcuz when mixing paint colors, you DO need Blue to make the Purple color... However, I feel like they really should have made up a new word to represent Purple! Bcuz, I mean, it's like calling Orange - Red. But once again, no decision makers have asked me. And so, my opinion is NOT the point! Nope. Anyway, if I were fully fluent in Latin, then I could verify if this were true. But alas, I cannot. It's just what I heard at some point in my travels. That's the Theory of why Purple is called Blue. Thank You once again for the gorgeous video! ❤
@TONYAwiththeflowers

That's a very interesting theory. I have no knowledge of Latin, whatsoever. It makes me wonder about flowers like Echinacea purpura though. Thanks for watching! :)
@gardengatesopen
@gardengatesopen 3 жыл бұрын
@@TONYAwiththeflowers YES!! Seeeeee!!! THAT is a perfect example of how this theory doesn't work!!! I have no idea what the time line is on every plant found, and named. It makes me wonder if the person who named all the purple colors blue, well... maybe he was color blind?!! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Can I ask where you got La Vie from - I have it saved to order from a supplier but want to make sure it's not the one you got it from since the stems are so short!
