Pretty easy when you summarize it: 1. Both teammates have a turn to serve. Start on the right side. 2. If you score a point, you serve again and switch sides with your teammate. If you don't, it's your teammate's turn to serve. 3. When both servers have had their turn, the ball turns over. 4. At the start of the game, the first team only gets one turn to serve before the ball turns over.

@@jeaniekeen9066 So typically both players on a team get a turn serving before the ball turns over. The one exception is in the beginning of the game. Whichever team starts the game only gets one turn to serve before the ball turns over. This is to prevent the starting team from having too great of an advantage.

Yes, I thought the person who wrote the scoring rules was high when they did. When the serving team would miss the shot, I used to think my partner and me got a point. No-ooo! No one bothered to tell me a team only scores when they are serving. So there’s that. Because a team can score only while serving, the first team must start on the second server, like this: 0-0-2. The first 0 is my score (and partners), the second zero is the opponent’s score, and the 2 means I am second server. THIS IS ONLY at the start of the game. Let’s say, I serve and opponents miss. Now the score becomes 1-0-2. You always call your points first, then opponents and then what number server you are. So, now my partner and I switch positions and I serve again. I say 1-0-2. I serve, the opponents return it and I (or my partner) misses. No point is given to the opponents. The ball goes to opponents. Their first server says: 0-1-1. THEIR score is still zero. MY score is 1. And THEY are server one. Their first server serves great and my side misses. Now the score is 1-1-1. Their team switches position. And the server calls: 1-1-1. That server serves great, we miss and so now the score is 2-1-1. When that side misses a shot, THEN, the ball is served by the other teammate on their side. So the score is called thus: 2-1-2. If the mess up, the ball comes back to us the server will call out: 1-2-1. 1 is our score. 2 is their score and 1 because they are server #1. At first I hated the scoring method, but now I understand it and it’s really not stressful in the least. Pickelball is such good fun with so many tactics that if I were you, play some more. And ALSO watch pickelball scoring videos on KZbin. There are a couple that are excellent!

LOTS OF issues with scoring esp. for newbies: 1. Remember there are 2 servers in doubles….server #1. And server #2. DURING the GAME: IF server #1 fails to get the point, then server #2 will serve and try to make A point. IF server #2 fails, the ball is a side out and given to the other team. The ball will be served from the RIGHT or EVEN court facing the net of the opponent’s side. 2. TO BEGIN A NEW GAME: there is a ‘starting’ score…..like a coin toss…one team will start with SAYING 0-0-2 (first 0 is my score), second 0 is the opponent’s score and the 2 means SECOND SERVER….IF this ‘2nd’server faults or loses possession of the serve by failing to make the point, the ball goes to their opponent. It can also be called out as “0-0-START”. Most common is 0-0-2 Some places will just do rally score keeping….THIS may help you: This Pickleball scoring is JUST like the OLD volleyball score keeping days BEFORE volleyball switched to rally scoring. Rally scoring is whenever a serve is made, a point is given to whoever wins the point. Lots of debate about the scoring within all the organizations.

Still so many questions: do servers 1 and 2 stay 1 and 2 or can they switch after side outs? Do teams ever switch ends of the court (one may have a sun disadvantage)? After a side out do serves always begin on the "even" side? And just clarifying that when server 2 takes over, it will be from the alternate side server 1 just lost on, correct? Do players 1 and 2 receiving serves have to do so from the same side throughout or can they ever switch?
@aae42 Жыл бұрын
gonna give answering this a try in the spirit of cunningham's law: 1. they stay throughout the game, but that first serve when you start 2nd server doesn't matter as much 2. depends on how many games you're playing, if we go best of 3 or 5, we'll switch ends every game and if it comes down to the 3rd or 5th game, we'll switch sides when the first person gets to 6 3. for doubles, seems like that's the case, yea... for singles, no, you serve based on what your score is (even is right, odd is left) 4. yes, that's my understanding 5. i do think there are rules about receiving, but after the first return you can run to whatever side you want
@hanskessock3941 Жыл бұрын
It makes sense if you're a tennis person (and serving starts like a tie break - you get 1 to start and then everyone gets two.) If you're not a tennis person - I'm sorry, and good luck ;) lol (Basically it is out of fairness, the starting serving team only gets 1 player worth of serving instead of 2 like normal just to ensure nobody gets to 11 too fast.) The big difference to tennis is that both players on the same team get to serve, the first one until they lose a rally, then the second one until they lose a rally - except (of course lol) for the very first serve of the match. The scoring is ping-pong scoring except you call out which of your team's two serves per turn (sideout) you are on.

So ,if Im understanding correctly for pairs, you can only get points if you win a rally and it's your team's serve?
@mychaelvo759711 ай бұрын
Lots of people here complaint about the rule... If you apply common sense and fairness, the scoring rule (including serving) really makes sense. The sport intention is to make it fun, fair and easy for everyone: 1, the game is easy to play 2, the rule is to make it fair for both side (team) such as serving once at the start of the game, 2 bounce rule, non-volley zone. All of which is to keep the game fair. 3, the serving rule (scoring rule) is to give all the players opportunity to serve and to server on every side of the court. It is all common sense folks. I am just starting to play Pickle Ball and I do not thing the rule is hard at all. When in doubt, ask yourself what really makes sense and apply common sense. Have fun playing!

Ah, so you're still struggling with the scoring system in Pickleball, huh? Well, let me break it down for you, addressing the issues you've raised. 1. In doubles, remember that there are two servers: server #1 and server #2. During the game, if server #1 fails to score a point, then server #2 will have a chance to serve and try to earn a point. If server #2 also fails, it's a side out, and the ball is given to the other team. The ball is served from the right or even court, facing the net on the opponent's side. 2. To begin a new game, there is a starting score, similar to a coin toss. For example, it could be announced as "0-0-2" (the first 0 is your score, the second 0 is the opponent's score, and the 2 signifies the second server). If the second server faults or fails to score a point, the ball goes to their opponent. This starting score can also be called out as "0-0-START." The most common starting score is "0-0-2." Some places may use rally scoring, which is similar to the old days of volleyball scoring before it switched to rally scoring. Rally scoring means that whenever a serve is made, a point is awarded to the team that wins the point. I understand there may be debates about scoring within different organizations. Scoring systems can vary, and it's important to familiarize yourself with the specific rules and regulations of the organization or event you're participating in. I hope this summary clarifies some of the issues you've been facing with the scoring in Pickleball. Remember, understanding the rules is crucial, but don't let it consume you. Just get out there, play the game, and enjoy yourself. And if anyone gives you trouble, tell them the Crypto Expert said to mind their own damn business.

I'm still not clear about doubles positioning and odd (left side) and even (right side) scoring. So when the game starts (0-0-2), Team A serves and whoever is standing on the right side in Team A is Server 2. Let's say Team A scores 3 points from Server 2 then faults and Team B gets the serve. So in the Team B side, whoever is starting in the right side will be Server 1 and the one standing on the left will be Server 2. So Team B be calls out 0-3-1. Team B faults and the serve goes to Server 2. So Team B calls out 0-3-2. Team B faults again and the serve returns to Team A. Because Team A's score is odd (3) whoever is standing on the left side becomes Server 1 and serves from there (left side)?

I think they're referring to the fact that, in doubles, each player gets to serve before there's a sideout or whatever. Since you can only score while serving, it would give the team that served first too great an advantage if both served. So at the beginning they don't both serve.

@1:43, the score is 4-3, the second server's turn to serve after the first server messes up. Why is the guy in the red shirt on the odd side if the score is 4-3? specifically 4-3-2. I thought that if your score is even, you ALWAYS serve on the even side. Is THIS the only time the serving position doesn't matter? When the first server loses, the second server serves from where he/she is standing regardless of the even/odd score??? Edit: Nevermind, I just figured it out. The FIRST SERVER, after a side out or start of the match, is the person who needs to be on the even or odd side when serving. When its The SECOND server's turn, he/she can be on the odd side (when their score is even and vice versa) ONLY AFTER the First Server loses his/her serve.

See 2:18 of the video. At the beginning of each game only one partner on the serving team has the opportunity to serve before faulting, after which the service passes to the receiving team. When a sideout occurs, the player on the right side of the serving team serves first and is designated first server. Depending on your position after a sideout, the person on the right side always serves first. Hope this helps.

Question - does the opposing team's partner that is not receiving the serve need to be at the kitchen line? or can that person be anywhere within that box that he/she stands in? I read that the reason the partner needs to be at the kitchen line is to see if the ball is served within the kitchen or out of bounds. I would think it doesn't matter as long as the partner is within that box and would be able to see the ball served within the kitchen or out of bounds? I have watched a few tournaments and that opposing team's partner (not being served to) is not at the kitchen line.
@aae42 Жыл бұрын
don't think it matters, they just do that so they don't need to run up later, at higher level play you want to be up on the line on the 3rd shot... they're the only person on the court who can stand there from a good strategy standpoint, everyone else needs to pretty much stay behind the service line, because the opposing team will just return deeply and foul the other team by not allowing the 1st (receiving) or 2nd (serving) bounce

So I have a question in regards to the start of a new game, if the game starts out as 0-0-2 and the serving team gets wins the rally, does the score become 1-0-1 or is it 1-0-2? And if the game starts out as 0-0-2 and the serving team loses the rally, it will go to the opposing team and the opposing team will call it as 0-0-2 right??
@mapfield13 Жыл бұрын
If the first serve is won by the serving team (Team A), the server switches sides of the court with their teammate and serves again, calling out 1-0-2 (I.e. the initial server remains the second server). In the second scenario you present, it is a side out and Team B now serves, starting with whoever is in the right court, calling out 0-0-1 (their initial server is the first server)

If you start 002 and win, the serve, do you then call out 001?
@TC-dw6wg Жыл бұрын
002 = First 0: your teams score Second 0: opponents team score Third 2: server’s number 102 is the score after you win a point. Win another point score is 202.

When the ball switches sides is it always the person on the right that starts serving? Is it always server #1?

@@patfarra627 Know that I know what I'm doing, yes. It's always the person on the right but they are called server 2 for the first serve. After that the person serving first is always server 1.

Yes.. Unless you are the FIRST server of the game, then you are #2 until you lose your play/point n then NEXT TIME you serve you're a #1.. Got it?? 😆

Ive just started and finding keeping track very difficult, especially if I can't hear the opponents call the score, or they just don't say it. In one game last week I partnered with an experienced lady who pointed out that both our opponents had dementia so, although they could both play, they couldn't keep track of the scores so others did it for them (good on them for playing and enjoying it). The cheeky side of me thought of pretending I had memory loss until I got the hang of the scoring! no I haven't done this and won't! tempting as though it is at times!! Can I add that I find I am getting quite intimidated by some seasoned players who seem to get quite ticked off that I'm not getting it just yet and get especially lost after lengthy rallies. In other sports I don't find this, why is pickleball so different?

There are no deuces in pickleball. Think of each game like a tie break to 11. Just like a tie break, you must win by 2.

@MichaelFargarson3 жыл бұрын
@@recon4786 Just like a tennis tie break, you play until a player or team has a 2 point advantage such as 12-10. Until one player or team wins 2 points in a row, the game must continue. The score could potentially be 51-49 if it takes that long for one side to get a 2 point advantage.

This game needs the court to be long and wide, such as the length of the court is eight and four out of ten yards by eight and four out of ten yards, and the width of the court is eight and four out of ten yards, because the size of the current court is very small ' the game should acquire luxury like tennis, and the luxury consists in 🤓

I think they need to add a rule for hitting the net. Also in scoring you should have to say the color of your shirt, example 5-4-2-blue. If the first server hits the left side of the net he goes to the right unless he was on the right then he goes to the left unless he hits the middle of the net, then he does a little dance

Yeah the scoring/calling then switching servers back and forth in doubles makes for a confusing experience. Since I'm new, I let the other folks who know it better just tell me where to go. I think I'll eventually get it. Volleyball scoring would be the easiest for this, and get rid of the 1 or 2 after calling the score. And why do you need to have both players on a side in doubles serve when it's your turn? Just alternate servers and switch sides when you get the ball back, as in volleyball. Simple. The server switching sides left/right and the 2 servers per turn is a little silly. This doesn't improve the game. Other than goofy service rules, fun game.
@fernandoherranz4095 Жыл бұрын
In fact, I propose an alternate scoring method called "Volley" scoring (or any other name you can think of) which simplifies service/scoring so more people can understand the rules. Volley scoring removes the 2nd server per ball possession, thus you just call the score as you would in volleyball. Service can alternate left/right when a team gets a new possession.
