The perpendicular angle idea at the end, very good explanation. It helps explain why a groundstroke down the line often goes wide. You have to compensate for the entry angle in order to straighten it out. Def a 4.0 concept. Thanks

Just want to say that you should run not walk to the PK Academy that Barett offers. It is great. The cost of this program is 1/5th the cost of a three day camp by almost any pro and Barett gives you more details and you can watch over and over and over until you get it. We all know that Barett can teach so please give yourself this gift.. Is changing my game so much!

I can't believe how popular pickle ball has become. I played when I was 10 years old 46 years ago. A neighbor had a court installed and we used to have weekly tournaments. It was normally adults against adults and kids vs kids. I challenged the adults and easily beat all of them except for the guy who owned the court. I would use both hands as in switching between my left and right. It messed them up pretty bad and they allowed me to play with the adults from then on. The other kids were a joke to me. Back in those days the paddle was a simple plywood paddle.

For the “roll”: get the top spin, but what about the “squat” component? I’m pretty small female player, only 5’1”, I’m pretty much down there in the first place…must I still squat for this shot to be effective?
@PickleballKitchen
@PickleballKitchen 2 жыл бұрын
The recommendation for squatting is purely to help people get underneath the ball. If you think you’re getting underneath everything just fine because if your height, then you should be good to go.
@jimw6991

In other sports there are fancy tools that quantify the balls reaction to being struck. In tennis, velocity in mph and rpm's. In golf velocity, apex, distance traveled, etc. I think the shot being described would really benefit from both an explanation of forward velocity and angular. Since the latter quantifies how much spin is being generated. The spin comes from paddle face moving vertical (up) and/or horizontal (sideways). Forward motion moves ball towards opponents. Seems that people can squat but not hit shot. If you really got under the ball and hit it up with a slightly open paddle face that doesn't work either. am confident
@jimw6991
@jimw6991 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry didn't finish typing ... any chance you camera could capture paddle swing path, angle to court, player, moment of contact, etc.? I get what you are trying to do and say but key point of paddle face motion relative to ball isn't coming thru on this video. You might also try straightening knees as you swing up/brush up on back side of ball. This van help make more spin if timed correctly (pumping action of lower body)

As a left-handed player, I feel like when I play doubles with someone new it always takes a few games for someone to get used to playing with me. It's frustrating though because I play socially so I'm usually mixing it up playing with someone new and I'm wondering: Does anyone else feel like this and have any suggestions??
@letteringguy
@letteringguy 2 жыл бұрын
We right-handers rarely play with lefties, so the more you talk about how you two will play various shots, the better you experience should be. Before you start a game, make it clear to your partner that you are left-handed. Add that there will be times when you will both have paddles in the middle or paddles on the outside, and ask if they have preferences hitting balls down the middle in each case.
@rebekahtyler7406
@rebekahtyler7406 2 жыл бұрын
I'm left handed as well and find that communication before the game and during are key. I get into the habit of calling the ball well in advance, even if it is clearly mine, and I call "yours" and get out of the way when I'm not going for it. Another thing to recognize if you're not going to stack is who has the better backhand and work that when backhands are in the middle. There will always be a little bit of learning eachothers style if you don't know them at all, but if you communicate I find the advantage of being left handed outweighs the "disadvantage"

Isn't that topspin serve borderline illegal? I used to serve like that in my first 6 months of playing but I changed it because my paddle and wrist at impact was most probably illegal.
@stankeye
@stankeye 2 жыл бұрын
No. At the point of contact the paddle is below his wrist. I have even watch some who are coming more from the side and even then the point of contact the paddle is below the wrist. This is only viewable in slow motion or freeze frame. At regular speed most people would think it illegal, but from the tournaments I have been in and from watching pro tournments it is never called. I think because it is far to difficult to 'see' at the point of contact with the ball the location of your wristr relative to the paddle. If you ever watch Mattias Johansson serve you would look at that and say illegal, but I have never seen him called on that.
