There is a really good book called "How Doctors Think" by Jerome Groopman, MD in which a key piece of advice for physicians is to keep your mind open as to the diagnosis until you have gathered all the data. When people lock on to a particular view point too early it biases their thinking. The backwards hat thing influenced your thinking. The hat guy actually played a less aggressive style. I challenge you to re-review this with pencil and paper in hand and Pick-apart who had more unforced errors in this game. Note that hat guy had a strong dink game and did not try to speed up balls that were unattackable, and the consistent deep returns. I especially liked how he diagnosed the Ernie that D. was about to get on him and reacted instantly with a nice lob. This was a fun game to watch and these are all really good players. Better than me. I notice that Dawnita sometimes rushes the nvz and gets caught and has to hit a shot before she gets her feet set. Thank you for doing these pick-aparts I love them!

I always decide how to play based on how people on the other side of the net are dressed... wtf. Maybe I should sit in the parking lot and see what they are driving? I feel like I just moved up a level

Shame doctors don't read that book then! Allopathic doctors have no clue what the root cause of anything is - they look symptoms up and do what the book tells them. If they truly had open minds then they'd be looking at the work of Dr Hamer, German New Medicine - and actually finding that nearly all symptoms are signs of healing not disease and talking to the people who go to them for help and actually help them. Allopathic medicine, beyond setting a fracture and some other ED work, is based on stories, myths and lies and makes things worse not better. As for pickleball - some of us don't have the cash for fancy gear - we enjoy life too much to work more hours just to buy pretty stuff.

@@jimb6683 All he’s saying is a first impression can give you information. When playing 2 unfamiliar opponents look at who you may return the ball to. Keep doing it until that player proves they can handle what you send their way. Maybe your first impression was wrong but it’s a better strategy than just flipping a coin. No?

Fun, and competitive, game to watch. Like you, Rory, I kept wanting the ladies to hit their returns to Orange as his back court game wasn't nearly as good as his soft game at the NVZ. (His dinking was way better than you thought it would be, huh?) The ladies' mesh really well as a team. I noticed they were having a lot of fun, too. It *is* a game, after all.

Great game! The women did very well on offense and keeping the guys back, although they did get overpowered a few times. Just goes to show the power game can only get you so far. 3rd shot drop or drive/drop combo seems to be the better play in most cases. And the woman in the yellow hat had some great shots!

It just seems to work out that way. I played a lot of cards in the past, Texas Hold Em. Almost every player with a hat on backwards played aggressively. Seems to be the same for pickleball.

Yes, you're right that the women could target the man in the orange shorts because he was the weaker player. However, this was rec play.

I would rate this play higher than 4.0, more like 4.5. D's backhand was outstanding. Her backhand was an offensive weapon. I must admit I also negatively judge guys who wear their hats backward! Must be an age thing. What I look for at the beginning of a match is which player has their paddle at their side and who is slower to move forward.

The guy in the orange shorts seems to be very good @ dinking . The third shot drop is just a long range dink . You would think this would occur to him & he would give up the third shot drive ( since it's gotten him nowhere ) & atleast try an occasional third drop . Pickle-Ball is a game of percentages , so : which shot enables a player to advance to the NVZ line more often than the other , drop or drive ? No contest...DROP !

Helpful videos but…can you just identify players by 1 and 2 on a team and then A and B on the other team and then superimpose these identifiers on the video and refer to them as such? Your descriptions of the players are driving me crazy

I've seen a few of your videos. Each video has a lot of flawed analysis. Yes, 3rd shot drops are the preferred shot. If a returning player doesn't get up to the NVZ hitting a drop is not the shot. You let them advance without having to earn it. You should 3rd shot drive at their feet. A 3rd shot drop is not unsuccessful because it doesn't land in the kitchen. If the player contacts it out of the air below the net they are hitting the ball up which is the goal. A 3rd shot drive is not unsuccessful if you don't get to the NVZ. You can drive the ball 5 times if you move up one step each time you're going to get there or possibly get a pop-up along the way. Also when you analyze a Rec game stop encouraging people to target the weaker player. That's tournament strategy. In a rec game hit the ball to where the proper shot should be played regardless of player. You get better by hitting to better players and targeting a weaker player in a rec game is poor etiquette. You should monitor a lot of your advice when it is not sound pickleball strategy.

Hitting the ball to the man in Orange pants, is a good thing. At some point man in Orange shorts will realize he is going to have to work at his game, if he doesn’t want to be targeted. Goal is to get better as player not win the game. I have been targeted many times, it is a moment of truth.
