Pickolo - a colony picker for Tecan robots

Pickolo is an add-on for Tecan robots (EVO75 / EVO100 / EVO150 / EVO200) which adds colony picking capabilities.
It takes either an SBS plate (such as a 96 well plate) or a petri dish (90mm) and uses a high resolution camera to image the plate. It recognizes the growing colonies and can filter them by size, color or shape.
The Pickolo uses the regular robot liquid handlingarm to pick the colonies and transfer them to a collection plate. The software is easily integrated into regular Tecan scripts such as Evoware, enabling colony picking downstream and upstream to other robotic tasks.
Using disposable tips assures that there are no cross contamination and removes the need for a wash cycle. Using all 8 tips means it's an extremely fast colony picker.
Using Pickolo it is possible to pick clones for MALDI TOF spotting and further microbial identification. e.g. Bruker Biotyper or Vitek MS.
The software generates automatic documentation of the picked colonies.
