Those are going to be some good looking walls. As many have mentioned, consider gettting a pro to do the tape and texture. After attempting on my own in a small room on a DIY build, I realized that the learing curve/skill for me was a bit step. I was able to find a guy to work for cash on a weekend who is an artist with mud an texture.

Talking about straight 2x4's reminds me of when I had a 12' redwood 2x4 that was straight as an arrow. I used it as a screed for concrete. One day I used it on my concrete drive and after I washed it and left it leaned against the house to dry. Well apparently someone else thought it looked good because overnight it disappeared. :(

What's the price difference between doing the ceiling 16" instead of 24", compared with the 1x4 strapping? The work itself looks to be a several hours or a day for you, simple enough enjoyable work, so that maybe isn't a big factor. (I'm thinking about people doing future projects.)

Buy the drywall lift at Harbor Freight. Way less than renting and for a one time use it is more than adequate. I bought mine for a much smaller job and don't regret it at all especially since I was alone putting up the ceiling and walls. I would get a new plumber but one trick is to use a heat gun for minor adjustments of plastic pipe. They make drywall paper shims for leveling out walls and ceiling framing much more convenient than wood shims and better in this case as they taper to nothing when needed.
@thtadthtshldntbe3 жыл бұрын
I don't know how much of a delay these videos are on, but if you want to do it yourself (subcontracting it out would be better), you want at least a three man crew, 2 to hang and one to cut/transport to the hangers. Its the mudding and taping you want to farm out, because that, especially in house with as much surface area as you have is the "zomg, why o why am I doing this myself" job.

For ceilings I screw a 2x4 1/2" below the thickness of the drywall for a "ledge" so it'll help take the strain out of trying to hold it up and screw it. (Only works on the outer sheets obv.) For walls, screw a 2x4 4ft down and let the drywall rest on it while you screw it in. I've done tons of drywall by myself and this way helps save your body. Did my entire house by myself except for the 15' Cathedral Ceiling... That I def. Needed help with.

I'm sure it's too late but I would seriously think about hiring out all of the drywall and finishing it again. If you can get a crew, they will get it done in one to two days in the same time it will take you to do one room and it will look better. DIY on small jobs is cool but those guys have it down and they crank it out. That said, I understand not wanting to wait if you don't have other things to work on or it's holding you up. And yeah, I agree with the guy who suggested putting in some sound barrier in the flooring and even bed and bath walls.

@7:40 you talk about adding strapping so the drywall isn't spanning 24". 5/8" rock is rated for exactly that, 24". We blow 30" of cellulose insulation on top of that, done it for several years on many builds, never had any problems. If you run strapping, it doesn't automatically make things flatter, it's shimming behind the strapping that can create the level 5 smooth finish. But if you're texturing the ceiling, standard procedure with 5/8" on 24 centers is not a problem. It's more important to set your screws the proper depth on a ceiling.
