TL;DR Awesome 👌 (54 yrs old engineer, learned microcontroller 35 yrs ago, been away a loooong time. Now energized to tinker with my heat pump/modbus and much more. Your training works like a refresher saving me a lot of time. Lot's of fun ahead 🎉)

This was great! I recently purchased a pico from you (it hasnt arrived yet and probably wont for a bit because of christmas) im already pretty experienced in python and this was helpful with setting up the ide and the pico itself.

40:06 Fell at the very first hurdle: I don't get the role of the 3V3(OUT) connection to the +ve rail in the closed circuit as nothing then connects to the rail. :(
@Core-ElectronicsАй бұрын
When we place it down there we aren't connecting it to anything quite yet. The closed circuit goes from the the ground rail, through the LED and resistor, then to the Pico's pin which will be supplying the 3.3 volts when we tell it to do so via code. We use the +ve rail a little bit later in the video where we connect a button to it.

@@Core-Electronics That's what I _guessed_ eventually, but it didn't make sense when first introduced coupled with explaining closed loops. 😊

This is awesome. Jaryd is great at explaining stuff! One question: Why could I be getting "ValueError: syntax error in JSON" when i try to query jsontest?
@Albinario4 күн бұрын
My guess is date.jsontest is down cause i got a reply from another api test site.

Looks like a good place to start for a newbe like me. But I face trouble already like 13 min into the session. When installing MicroPython I dont get a Target Volume no matter what I do. I've searched the web and found proves for my Rasp beeing alive - but still no luck :( Any sugestions on what's wrong?

Triple check you are pressing and holding the white boot select button on the Pico when you are plugging it in. We have a dedicated forum topic for this course over here: forum.core-electronics.com.au/t/raspberry-pi-pico-workshop-for-beginners/19075/6 We have an army of makers over there who are happy to help out with this stuff so feel free to post your issue over there!

Thats exactly the only spot in my process where I can see a diff. I'm using a Rsp Zero and therefore do not have a reset to press. A Pico is on its to my desk. :)

Good, but wanted to see the C programming instead of micropython. Every job that I’ve applied to wants C
@steveb7600Ай бұрын
this video is not produced for profession embedded developers, just as the Pico isn't designed for use by professional embedded engineers. If the presenter did this whole course in C it would be four times as long to cover the same material while having one tenth the audience on KZbin. Expect to pay for a course like this in C.
@natewinslow557Ай бұрын
@steveb7600 As a professional embedded engineer, the Pico is definitely used in real world products. The Pi 500, USB-Hubs, Mechanical keyboards, Logic analyzers, etc. Its an ARM processor, ARM is everywhere in the embedded world.

Although this is python, the logic presented will work the same once converted to C or C++. You could actually use AI to convert them. In fact because the logic is already written out for the lessons into working examples, you could very easily paste the code into an AI and ask it to convert it to C or C++ and this is something that AI can do pretty easily and with significantly less errors. The reason it will have less errors is because you are already giving it a working logic as the input, it only needs to change the syntax of the code from one language to the other. It doesn't have to create the logic itself. This is actually a very good use case for AI. Its something it will be good at. I have used AI to do this. I think it's one of its strongest use cases to be honest. It can convert between languages pretty easily and doesn't need to think much to do thia.
