My favorite thing about bird mimicry is when they pick up on the little nuances of your voice. The unique flair in how someone blows a kiss, or how they inhale before speaking. For Pico, I love the way he has "birrrrrdee!" trail off. For my cockatiel, the first time he whispered "hey," I about died of laughter. He picked up on how I sweet talk to him around bedtime.

This was 18yrs ago, I then removed them, due to I was expecting, an my 2 Too's an 6 Cocktiel's were enough for this pregnant Mom. Now I would love to get 2 again or 1 sun conure! Your's is beautiful!

Parrotlet's, there just a awesome little bird. Rio (Parrotlet) looks so small beside Barney (Senegal). Were down to 19 birds now. Just lost Bam Bam (Parrotlet) last month. 😢. 11 Parrotlets, 1 love bird 🐦, 2 doves, 3 budgies, 1 conure, 1 Senegal. Use to have 28. Tilley (lovebird) lost Mica a couple of years ago. Mica was 23, but now Tilley has a i-pad now and watches lovebirds throughout the day. lol. Helps her at first because they were together for years.

I lost my baby on the 16th. She was a beautiful and awesome little bird who loved biting my fingers. She wasn't eating much when I left on vacation, but the sitter never mentioned this, they said that my baby was fine. Eventually, she died the day I came back home, and this made me question what if I had came back earlier? Would she still be here?. I'm now watching bird videos to ease the pain. Seeing another parrotlet made me think of the things we used to do together, the similar personalities and the fact that I can't teach her to talk anymore. I had her for a 1 1/2 years, and I wished I could have had her longer.

@@Pyxis444 Thank you for the reply! I've read they start at 5mths and up to a year. Males 80% chance and Females 20%. But that's the internet info. And forgot to mention funny what your husband taught lol. So Pico started early then. Like I said, Oliver chatters often,..he may or may not talk. Any suggestions which helped you? I talk to Oliver all the time, repeating words. He's still quite timid, never bites though.
@Pyxis4444 жыл бұрын
a couple of things I noticed was that he was quicker to learn words and phrases associated with something he likes, so always saying the same phrase when he gets a treat or come out might be good to start. He seemed to pick up things I say in a deeper voice faster for some reason (as well as things my husband says because his voice is lower maybe). I think is also just a lot of repetition and speaking clearly. What you are hearing as chatter could be attempts at words that just aren’t clear yet. Pico started that way and then the phrases became clearer and louder with time. I also make sure to say the words back to him whenever he says something just to reinforce it, perhaps that helped him become clearer over time as well. Pico is still somewhat hard to understand, I think parrotlets perhaps just can’t speak too much clearer than this though, so expect the words your bird says to sound like a bad answering machine recording most of the time. Good luck with teaching your little guy. They are such amazing little birds with such great personalities, so even if yours doesn’t ever speak, you will have so much fun with him.

I would of adopted a parrolet but they are too expensive for how big they are. I have adopted an Congo African Grey for about $400. and a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo for $500. They have been with me for awhile now. The only way I would consider a parrolet is if they were no more the $100.
@Pyxis4443 жыл бұрын
Parrots cost much more here, those prices seem really low. Parrotlets may seem pricey for a tiny bird, but they are just as clever and have just as much personality as bigger parrots.

Hello are you still on KZbin live? Your last posting looking at was 3 years ago. After about five years. Now I have a new one that's supposedly two-month-old from a breeder but I'm a little suspicious because he doesn't have the stripe next to his I wanted a darker Blue Mail specifically what they think they call Pacific parrotlet blue parallel of course the gentleman wasn't there at the store he's a breeder himself and he picked them up from another breeder a friend of his which there was three of them to pick from and I don't have any experience with the two-month-old if that's the age if not younger knowing if it's a male or female because she's so young. The woman in the store she said the Colors by the strike by the I won't appear until they're a little older and I said what about the tale the tale does have some blue in it but it's not as blue as the mail I had before. And looking at the bird it might be a female she said no she looks at the vent that a bird says it's a male I said well I'm going to make some people online about it that ever thought his you know pretty much more skilled than I am about it. I took photos of the bird so if you want to look at the birds pictures. I'd be more than glad to send them to you. I spent 350 on a bird. And I will be bringing it back tomorrow but I don't know the difference between this one and seeing it without seeing the line next to the eye and or the tail having the bright royal blue fish Birds photos if you look at the tail there is a lot of blue in it what they called the rump it's not as blue as my Berber my bear was a little bit old every 6-7 months old when I bought them at the time. This bird is far younger so I'd appreciate the feedback from experts such as yourselves user for more experienced than I am that's for sure I'm far more store. I'm hoping to get some opinions tonight because tomorrow I'm going back to the store with the bird and I don't know if the other birds are for females or males or not unless I see the striped next to their eye which I didn't see that LOL I just locked onto this bird because this was the darkest blue which I like my other bird was a much more lighter blue and slated back this bird's blue and green and dark green and blue and it has blue and a tail and I got a close-up of his face so if you want to look at the photos just tell me how to send them to you. Thank you for reaching back to me. Let me know if you like to look at the pictures and how to send them to you. Thanks Fred

I want a bird, but I dont want one thats loud, I read that these guys dont really talk much unless like you teach them to, is that true or are they loud
@Pyxis4444 жыл бұрын
d o ɔ ɒ Ⴑ I don’t think we were directly trying to teach him. We just try to use the same phrases all the time in front of him and he picked it up. I believe only some Parrotlets talk, so if you get one, it’s possible it may not talk at all. As for loudness, they can be quite loud. They are considered quieter than other parrots and they are comparatively quieter, but they still can make quite a bit of noise....enough that it can be sometimes hard to talk to someone in the same room and hear what they are saying. They are amazing pets, but like all pets a lot of research is needed before making sure they are good fit for you. There are lots of Parrotlet groups on Facebook with really good info as well if you are trying to research.
