I have had both over the years and while I love both, I definitely prefer the parrotlet. They have such big personalities. I might be biased though because I currently have a male parrotlet named Boo and he is super sweet, adorable and such a lovey little guy. He definitely thinks he’s bigger than what he his lol.

I had a Peach Conure and he was awesome but the noise level was a bit much. The screeching. So I decided to go with a parrotlet. Out of the group of babies I looked at, some had bright blue colors but I decided to go with the turquoise because he was waaay tame. He was the only one that wouldn't fly off my finger and loved to have his neck scratched. I've had him for a year and I def made the right decision getting the most affectionate one. He is AWESOME. The noise is a Tweety bird noise but actually quieter than parakeets I've had. And the parrotlet seems smarter than the parakeets too. I can see he is working things out in his head. I plan to teach him tricks. He talks a lot wow, always learning and complete phrases, clicks, and whistles(although he just uses a high pitched voice, not actual whistle). He recently learned to laugh on his own from listening to me talk on the phone. Crazy smart and fun. Loves attention and to be touched. Loves to be in front of me in the center of whatever I'm doing. He's the best bird I've had for noise, intelligence, talking, affection, all rolled into one small package. And yes, he thinks he's big and tough lol. Parrotlets def are big birds in a little body. The first year mine would bite but just a little and it's nothing compared to bigger parrot bites. Now that he's a year old he has mellowed out big time. Almost never bites ever. He LOVES strangers, kids etc. Anyone who will pick him up is his favorite in that moment. Also one more note...his poops are small and compact ..easy to clean in two seconds with a napkins, not a messy wet bomb like bigger parrots. Two thumbs up for parrotlets.

I just brought my fallow female home last week. Parrotlets are fabulous! I live in an apartment so their quieter nature as opposed to larger parrots works for me. She's just a baby but is an absolute love. I've named her Sassypants which is appropriate considering the parrotlet personality. It doesn't get any better than this: big parrot temperament in a little bitty package.
@ParrotBliss3 жыл бұрын
Consider a friend for her - she will be happier when you aren't around and you will have twice the fun when you are with them. Yes, I think you will be very happy. I have a little lovebird, about 1 year old. A Fisheri. She roams free most of the time in my house, we eat vegetables and drink water together but it took over 6 months for us to bond. This was because her previous owner had clipped her wings. She was very scared of everything, but she did take interest in me. I started to just hang out with her, singing, talking, giving compliments. crying because she was so beautiful and cute but also investigate her behavior so i could build up her confidence. Wanting to make her feel safe and going slow and trusting the proces paid off! When she got her feathers back, she was a different bird! She started to feel the freedom to fly and learn new things. Now every morning she wakes me up by a certain chirp, waits till I get up and just hangs out with me. She can be aggressive if i move to quick with my hands but she is also young, learning how to do beak interaction etc. Because I have noticed the biting going down but its still hard. She does have a big personality for such a small bird but her love and chirps and looks (and the kisses on the cheek) make up for that 100%. Sorry for the long story.
@VolatileHunter22 жыл бұрын
She only makes a lot of noise when I have to cook (she can't and won't come in there) and I put on a YT video about her birds and an ad comes up or when I wake up late in the morning she will chirp like your house is on fire, but she has toys and things of her own so she will go and play but occasionally chirp my way to see if I'm getting up.

How old are the babies? How many? She won’t be able to do too many babies, with or without dad. I don’t let them keep more than four, especially when they are new parents, because it’s too much work/stress for them. I take over when they are 2 weeks, pulling the 2 oldest. Then I’m on top of feeding every 2-3 hours.

I’ve owned both. My lovebird was less affectionate but loved to cuddle and be held tight. The parrotlet is more intelligent, social, and far less clingy and very independent. Both are wonderful it really comes down to what kind of relationship you want I think. The parrotlet is happy go lucky, glad to get attention from anybody and easily entertains himself. The lovebird on the otherhand wanted one thing and that was to cuddle. Unfortunately his personality was a little temperamental and he’d nip frequently and sometimes had difficult moods to work through. I think i have more “fun” with the parrotlet but I do miss the deep bond with my lovebird

Sounds to me like you shouldn't have kept him by himself 🤔 Lovebirds are affectionate and naturally want to bond to a lifelong mate, so when they're alone they will bond to you and see you (the owner) as their partner. In my opinion you always need to give a lovebird a (same-species) buddy of the other sex. Our male and female lovebirds are so incredibly attached, one cannot be without the other. They like us too, but they cannot feed us or cuddle up to us at night like they do with their mate.
@macintoshimann98922 жыл бұрын
@@rainymornings while I’ve come to agree most parrots are happier with a mate, but this guy had a real special life. He bonded to both me and my dad, got him when I was 12. Between the two of us he had many hours of one on one time everyday. Only time he was in the cage was when nobody was home, and we learned after a few screw ups that’s where he’d be even if the door was open. The rest of the time he was buried in someone’s hand, loving life. He actually passed sleeping in my pocket, miss him dearly but know how full of joy his life was. I see the same relationship he had with me and my dad in my pair of budgies. This is difficult for most people to pull off, but certain living situations can really work out great.

Does anyone have suggestions on how I can encourage my parrotlet to keep his beak trimmed? He has multiple chew toys in his cage, but doesn’t use any of them. In fact, he never chews on anything. His beak doesn’t really grow, it seems, but he does get this small, needle like point on the very end of it that I have to trim off about every two months. It is literally a needle point and can be uncomfortable when he nips or grooms my hands. He never bites out of anger, thank goodness, but that needle beak is crazy. If he’d use his chew toys I feel sure he would keep it from getting that way. He’s almost three and his beak has always done this. Help!

kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmPTaaaLmKh4hck That link is to a video I made titled, should I add a male or female Parrotlet. You can add either and house them together. You just need to make sure that they get along, which they probably will. Since your male is six months old, you may need to wait until the new one is an adult as well. Six months isn’t quite an adult, but it is close. Adults and youngsters don’t necessarily get along and the young one can get hurt. Otherwise, I have some males that are best friends and are house together. Separating them would make them very unhappy. It’s all a matter of watching and making sure they get along. I’m thrilled to hear that you’re thinking of getting a second Parrotlet. They are social and really appreciate having a companion. If you spend time with them they will still adore you as well.
