This is amazing. I just found it this morning. You do the best videos. I am not a camper since I lost my husband, but I do enjoy dabbling in my backyard. Sometimes I take my dog to the park where they have picnic areas for fires. I have been collecting hobo and rocket stoves of all kinds. I love this. I bought the 239 because I always say get the largest of anything I can afford. I will order in in a few minutes. Your video is sparking my interest in BBQing again. Thank you so much. I want to watch your others I missed.

I took the 85 on a weekend backpack at a higher altitude where fuel and wind would make a fire problematic. I brought a couple chunks of that prime 6 charcoal that I lit in the stove with some fat wood and a fire starter. Had over four hours of hot coal and leisurely cooked a nice meal and hot drinks.. Great hand warmer too and was really pleased with the whole set up and the stove.

But the 239 weighs 1/2 of what a 150$ titanium G2, at the cost of 40$. And the 85 weighs 1/5. And I’ll be honest, this thing is an absolute beast. I want to thank you for the heads up. It works fine.. is very light for my use and super packable... i carry i in my daypack for scrambling allround in the woods or with canoe. It is nearly.. an edc on smaller trips. A few years ago i have lost the u shaped wire.. but it works after first use... without.... at home i took an old inox tentpeg.. made a new one... ready 2 rumble again.. also possible.. to make one of old spokes or inox welding wire.... by the way... i bougt two crossbars from kelly kettle... they work good for a lot of hobos.. like the ikea a. s o. and also for this stove and the funny Decathlon rocketstove as a potstand. I a dreaming of the 239 as a portable fire/cooking pit.. also light enough for a backpack.. Canoe.. Bike or Motorbike Tour. as you mentioned... for a safe fireplace.. to look into the flames... in my opinion... a worthy product... have a nice time.. an again.. it is only simple lousy German basic school english.. 😁😂😂😂🙏

Fantastic, not just stoves but the larger one is definitely a fire-pit too. I like the PicoGrill 85 when I’m trying to go as light as possible. It holds a lot of wood, and is short in stature, so the heat really blasts the pot. If you position the wood correctly, you can get a decent set of coals that don’t fall through the bottom grate too fast and, again, due to the short height of the stove, the heat from the coals simmers for a good 15 minutes. Those hot coals also mean you can throw in a few twigs here and there and they will light up relatively quickly and keep the heat going, but you don’t have to constantly feed the stove like on some other small sized wood burners. This is mainly because it has a massive burn chamber relative to its height. What I don’t like about this stove is the amount of large side holes it has, and how low to the ground they are. If there’s even a little breeze, I’ve found the flames can come out of the stove, horizontally, a surprising distance. This means I’ve really got to make sure the area around the stove is clear of flammable material (always a good idea anyway) and that I’m not sitting too close it it or wearing loose fitting clothes when feeding it wood. It’s a good stove for sure, I’ve just got to be a lot more mindful when using it than, say, the Brennerle.

I am intrigued! I do not own a wood burn stove and have always wanted one. Watched many of your videos and other’s, just didn’t know which one. This one however seems to “have it all!” Love how it just collapses, even the bottom. Just brilliant design. Thank you for showing. I don’t understand what you mean by having to find a distributor, though. Anyway, if enough people maybe comment that they are interested, maybe they, can find a distributor.

It is a great stove design for sure. Issue is the company does not ship to Canada. I found after making this video that they do sell on Amazon US but not Canada. If a company in Canada would add this stove to their line we could buy them more easily here. Thanks for commenting

Mark if you are interested I would buy now, as soon as AMAZON sees a sharp rise in orders it will jack up the price. $20 is low compared to the other "very proud of their stove" sellers.

Hi Mark, nice video with a good overview of these stoves. What are your thoughts of these stoves compared to the Brennerle stove?
@MarkYoungBushcraft

Great question. I am planning on a comparison as they share a lot in common. At this point I would say the Picrogrill 85 is simpler, not as versatile but cheaper as well. Thanks for commenting

Nice one Mark, cheers! I think the manufacturer will be surprised at the demand for these stoves. I bought one of the first version of the Uberleben stainless kettle a few years ago and ended up returning it. It was designed with a loose nut that a bolt screwed into to secure the handle. I thought it was a terrible design - it was too easy to drop the nut when attaching the handle, and dropping a tiny nut in the forest duff would ruin your whole trip. Did they ever address that?
@MarkYoungBushcraft
@MarkYoungBushcraft 3 жыл бұрын
I do find the original Kessel nut a bit of a challenge to tighten. I leave the handle in the fixed position as a result. The new one is much better. Thanks for commenting

Exactly, I ended up getting the ones from Amazon regardless wether they’re original or not. No offense but many KZbin reviewers get them for free but we have to fork our money for it. Got it when it was $19 vs $70. It works great and didn’t brake the bank.

I'd love to try the larger version. Much to like about the concept and I like the capacity. I recently picked up a weird name knock off of the Lixada gassifier stove like yours and I'm enjoying it. It can use wood, pellets, alcohol gel, fuel tabs, and my Trangia. I can even sear a steak on it with a grill grate. Thanks for trying these stoves and bringing them to light (no pun intended) so we know whats out there. BTW I've been using Titanium pots and some cookware and it's fine for boiling water even though it has poor conductivity but it's horrible too cook with. I'm going back to my aluminum and stainless kits and the carbon steel skillet. Titanium is a love-hate relationship with me.
@MarkYoungBushcraft
@MarkYoungBushcraft 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you are liking the stove. I agree about titanium. Boiling water or making soups but frying is very hard to do without burning. I really like the hard-anodized aluminum for strength VS weight. The best (I had) is the now out of business Open Country. Would love to find a replacement. Thanks for commenting

Hey mark! I want to remind you that you ended up not doing the video of these using a trangia burner, as you said you would in the video. Did you forget it or drop the idea? Also, would you do me the kindness of measuring the thickness of the steel plates that the stoves use for the walls and ash pan? Only thickness specs I’ve found are for the separate stand which is 0.7mm, and the folded assembled stove which is 4mm. Thanks in advance!!!
@MarkYoungBushcraft

I like them, Mark. Especially the bigger one. Small one would work fine but I tend to use bigger pots and pans. I'll check out their website and find out more of the optional pot stands. You could always use more ventilation in wood burning stoves. It is amazing that the stove could withstand almost 4kg of weight. Appreciate the good info, Mark. I kinda like the Seige Stove, though. It looked tough enough to hold 6+kg.

So I’ll throw in 2 criticisms. First is that the reason to have the pot elevated slightly is not just because of the dampening effect, but also so the chimney effect will be directed at the pot bottom. What I see with this is much of the flame goes straight out the feed pot instead. The other criticism is so many Europeans are so stuck up they make me gag. I mean yes we’re a small market, but to say we wouldn’t want an ultra light kit? What uninformed buttheads. That being said, I would think of getting the large, because as you said, it could double as a mini fire place, but the small ones performance didn’t impress me enough to give up my firebox nano
