This is amazing. I just found it this morning. You do the best videos. I am not a camper since I lost my husband, but I do enjoy dabbling in my backyard. Sometimes I take my dog to the park where they have picnic areas for fires. I have been collecting hobo and rocket stoves of all kinds. I love this. I took the 85 on a weekend backpack at a higher altitude where fuel and wind would make a fire problematic. I brought a couple chunks of that prime 6 charcoal that I lit in the stove with some fat wood and a fire starter. Had over four hours of hot coal and leisurely cooked a nice meal and hot drinks.. Great hand warmer too and was really pleased with the whole set up and the stove.

I like the PicoGrill 85 when I’m trying to go as light as possible. It holds a lot of wood, and is short in stature, so the heat really blasts the pot. If you position the wood correctly, you can get a decent set of coals that don’t fall through the bottom grate too fast and, again, due to the short height of the stove, the heat from the coals simmers for a good 15 minutes. Those hot coals also mean you can throw in a few twigs here and there and they will light up relatively quickly and keep the heat going, but you don’t have to constantly feed the stove like on some other small sized wood burners. This is mainly because it has a massive burn chamber relative to its height. What I don’t like about this stove is the amount of large side holes it has, and how low to the ground they are. If there’s even a little breeze, I’ve found the flames can come out of the stove, horizontally, a surprising distance. This means I’ve really got to make sure the area around the stove is clear of flammable material (always a good idea anyway) and that I’m not sitting too close it it or wearing loose fitting clothes when feeding it wood. It’s a good stove for sure, I’ve just got to be a lot more mindful when using it than, say, the Brennerle.

I bought one of the first version of the Uberleben stainless kettle a few years ago and ended up returning it. It was designed with a loose nut that a bolt screwed into to secure the handle. I thought it was a terrible design - it was too easy to drop the nut when attaching the handle, and dropping a tiny nut in the forest duff would ruin your whole trip. Did they ever address that?

I'd love to try the larger version. Much to like about the concept and I like the capacity. I recently picked up a weird name knock off of the Lixada gassifier stove like yours and I'm enjoying it. It can use wood, pellets, alcohol gel, fuel tabs, and my Trangia. I can even sear a steak on it with a grill grate. Thanks for trying these stoves and bringing them to light (no pun intended) so we know whats out there. BTW I've been using Titanium pots and some cookware and it's fine for boiling water even though it has poor conductivity but it's horrible too cook with. I'm going back to my aluminum and stainless kits and the carbon steel skillet. Titanium is a love-hate relationship with me.

Glad you are liking the stove. I agree about titanium. Boiling water or making soups but frying is very hard to do without burning. I really like the hard-anodized aluminum for strength VS weight. The best (I had) is the now out of business Open Country. Would love to find a replacement. Thanks for commenting

Hey mark! I want to remind you that you ended up not doing the video of these using a trangia burner, as you said you would in the video. Did you forget it or drop the idea? Also, would you do me the kindness of measuring the thickness of the steel plates that the stoves use for the walls and ash pan? Only thickness specs I’ve found are for the separate stand which is 0.7mm, and the folded assembled stove which is 4mm. Thanks in advance!!!

I measure the steel at 0.25mm. I have not forgotten but neither is it a priority for me right now. I have a good number of other videos on my list to make first. Thanks for commenting

I like them, Mark. Especially the bigger one. Small one would work fine but I tend to use bigger pots and pans. I'll check out their website and find out more of the optional pot stands. You could always use more ventilation in wood burning stoves. It is amazing that the stove could withstand almost 4kg of weight. Appreciate the good info, Mark. I kinda like the Seige Stove, though. It looked tough enough to hold 6+kg.

If you like the bigger one, check out 398 model, which is in different format, but more like a bbq grill.

Love the Review Mark.... These stoves remind me an AWFUL lot of the Little Bug Stoves. 👍

Nice for bike packing I'm thinking . Wonder if they'll do a titanium version with a mini top grid ? Just hope people stay away from the Chinese knockoff .

I agree. Bike packing or any other ultralight use. Yes, it is especially bad when they use the companies name on the product. Thanks for commenting

USD19.99? That's quite a bargain! They're CHF67.00 on the manufacturer's sure, which is something like $72.

@@JonHancockUK I got it too, together with the 398 (different format) and the 760. I knew they’re way more expensive everywhere else and I’m sure they’ll go up on price on Amazon. I like them all, 85 for fast cooking, morning coffee etc, 398 I use for BBQ, steak etc, 760 I only use as fire pit. Yes, I have a camping addiction.🤷♀️

I just heard back from the company owner that all Picogrill items on Amazon are fake. Very disappointing. I updated the video title, description and my comment to show this

So I’ll throw in 2 criticisms. First is that the reason to have the pot elevated slightly is not just because of the dampening effect, but also so the chimney effect will be directed at the pot bottom. What I see with this is much of the flame goes straight out the feed pot instead. The other criticism is so many Europeans are so stuck up they make me gag. I mean yes we’re a small market, but to say we wouldn’t want an ultra light kit? What uninformed buttheads. That being said, I would think of getting the large, because as you said, it could double as a mini fire place, but the small ones performance didn’t impress me enough to give up my firebox nano
