You have single-handedly turned my world upright!! I have been cutting images out of magazines since I was about 13 & still have all of them 30 years later. I know you didn't originate the picture book but this is the first I've heard of it & now I'm beside myself with where to begin!! I cannot wait, I am so uber excited to start my own picture books. I honestly cannot believe I never thought of this before, but wow, yay!! I gotta go get busy!! thank you so much for the inspiration & your book is lovely, especially the "set your heart free" page, actually made me tear up. xoxo kelli

That was so nice! Thank you for sharing. I used to do this type of thing back in the late 80's early 90's in a blank book. Someone found it once and made fun of me for doing such silly things and I've never done one since. I called it my dream book. I'm making another one as soon as possible. No one will ever tell me I'm silly for dreaming and creating again. Love this!

My family (Mom & sisters) will say to me "I don't get it" or "Looks like trash to me" ...etc. I just tell myself that I am more artistic than they are and consider myself blessed that I can see the beauty in my work and it is always a plus when I find someone like Jamie that shares that gift.

Robin Donnelly i am in my 50's and love doing these! My mother thinks I am nuts! She doesn't like it at all and felt it was a waste of time. I believe that time spent doing something you love, that inspires you, makes you happy, is not time wasted. I just don't show her my art journals anymore. Never stop doing what you love! Artwork is your own expression. I hope you start doing it again and loving the process.

Robin Donnelly.. Many years ago when I was in college and lived in a dorm all of us girls would cut pictures out of magazines of everything we liked, it could be anything from a model in a bathing suit or puppies or scenery and writing, whatever anything and we would make poster-size collages and hang them on our dorm walls. It was a lot of fun!

This was so great to see....after watching so many junk journal things on you=tube I went back to my favorite thing which was gluing favorite stuff in a book...mostly memorabilia, cards, business cards, tags from clothes etc, with old photos, etc. Then I started a new, bigger book in a hard=backed book for selling rugs, with some beautiful pages and some not so beautiful. So now I'm taking lovely magazine pages and adding them, covering up words and images I don't care for....like you are doing here. Thanks for sharing and I loved your music too.

Jamie thank you for sharing your beautiful picture book. I have been gluing images in books forever. Back in the day when Yahoo had the only groups, I was co-owner of a group called Gluebots. The name says it all! Although I now love to play with mixed media and paints, many days I'm too ill to shlep out all the mess and I often feel overwhelmed by it all. Even on bad days, I can bring my book and box of images and glue stick to the sofa and feel that good feeling of creating something. So simple but so satisfying. Btw, I'm an American but lived and went to school in Toronto as a teenager. Beautiful city but cold!

Hi Terry! Thank you so much for sharing your story and your experience with glue journals! You are so right that they are a blessing when your reserves are down but you still want to create! Hello Jamie, Thank you for showing me how easy it is to create and use a magazine glue book! I absolutely love your You Tube videos. I am nearly 69 years young and I have secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis and I am wheelchair bound and I have co-ordination problems. I can only do my cutting in bed and I have yet to create any glue book pages. I used to do a lot of collaging when I was more mobile. I only have a basket to put all my materials in, I truly wish I had my own studio but I can only dream. I have made a list of themes for my gluebooks. However it is a huge struggle for me. I rarely get to visit any opportunity shops. I get magazines from my carer’s and my husband. One journal I want to do is devoted to L.M. Montgomery. .. but I have limited access to suitable pictures. I live in New South Wales, Australia. Your videos were a relief to me, as I have seen so many videos of “junk journals” and they are far to frilly for me. I would prefer not to use paint or too much wet medium. I like using gel markers, pens etc, I wish I could do things ‘perfectly’ but I just have to accept my limitations. I love good tips, but being disabled… I cannot always follow them all. I get so much inspiration from collaging videos, I haven’t got to the gluing stage yet. Any tips would be gratefully received. Rosemary Hoy
@theschoolofcreativemagic2 жыл бұрын
Rosemary, thank you so much for your lovely comment. It made my day to know you love my videos! I totally understand how sticking with dry mediums makes complete sense. You are doing your cutting, you have baskets for your materials - you're almost there! How about once a day gluing in one picture that has some resonance with the day? Bit by bit you will grow your glue book! PS As a Canadian, I just love that you are inspired by LM Montgomery!

Love your picture book. I have a glue book, but I felt constrained trying to make the images tell a story or in some way more "artistic". I love the way you have put pictures in the book that you love whether or not they "go" together. And what a lovely way to use up all those images we gather but haven't found a purpose. Very inspiring. Thank you!

Really lovely, and so simple to do...especially for those of us who want to create but are not good at art. I used to cut out pictures from magazines all the time when I was younger, but somehow as I got older and life got busy I stopped doing it. I went to London this summer to visit family and I bought some magazines to flip through, and once I was done I felt the urge to cut some of the images out for my travel journal. It’s something I haven’t done in a long time, and the simple act of cutting out and sticking down images that spoke to me brought me so much joy again! I’m so glad I rediscovered it! Your video was very inspiring and has given me some new ideas (I never would have thought of using a magazine to collage in) 💕

I use "Scotch shipping/packing tape. 1.88 in x 800 in(22.2yd). Using measured strips, I lay one strip at a time where I want it, using the bottom end as an anchor on the cover/page. Then using a smoothing tool or old credit card, I press the tape down, smoothing out wrinkles and air bubbles as I go along. It does take time but it worth the effort.

@theschoolofcreativemagic6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, Lynne! I made this particular journal out of magazines. I've got a video about how I did it (the link is in the description). I love many of the Stampington & Company magazines - Artful Blogging and Where Women Create, in particular. I love Arabella, a Canadian art magazine. I always love Vogue and just about a variety of home decor mags. I hope that helps!

Love your pictures!! What magazines are you using or is it multiple?? ❤
@theschoolofcreativemagic10 ай бұрын
Oh, I tend to use lots of different magazines - whatever I can get my hands on! Some favourites are Bella Grace, the now defunct Artful Blogging, Vogue, Artella and National Geographic. I hope that helps!

I’m so glad I’m not the only one that does books like this, they’re so much fun! What are your favorite magazines to go through for your images?
@theschoolofcreativemagic Жыл бұрын
I'm a sucker for all of the Stampington Magazines! Artful Blogging was my favourite before they drew it to a close. How about you? Any recommendations?

@@theschoolofcreativemagic I have a collection of National Geographics, Nat Geo History, Mother Earth News, Martha Stewart Living (when it was still in print), Bird & Blooms & Our State magazine. Ironically enough, I haven’t really used too many of the Nat Geo History’s; some of the articles are too good for me to make myself tear into it 😂

Ok I have to ask, where did you get your rings. I love them all, the fox is awesome, the thumb ring yes, and oh how I love the one with the dangling pieces!!! They were a slight distraction for me ;~). Your Glue Book Inspiration WOW 😯 BEAUTIFUL Thank You so much for sharing. I have so many little things stashed here and there, I’v had no idea when or in what piece I was going to use them...A Glue Book is Born. ;~)
@theschoolofcreativemagic6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I'm delighted you like my rings. Most of them are from local shops here in Toronto, though my thumb ring is from a market in Delft and the one with the dangling piece is a traditional Latvian ring that I have had since I was 16-years-old, a very special gift from my grandmother. I hope that you have an amazing time putting together your glue book!! It is the perfect home for those much-loved pictures that have been looking for a place to go!

Love your picture book, did you take out pages for the bulk, I've seen other videos and they took out pages do you have to do this?
@theschoolofcreativemagic7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Sandy! Because I used a magazine that I had already devoured for collage and dreamboards, lots of pages were already removed when I started working with it. It definitely makes a difference!

i love this.....the smoothness of the pages i gather is the result of using glue stick and credit card?????
@theschoolofcreativemagic7 жыл бұрын
I'm fussy about smoothness! I use glue stick and then rub the image down with a linen cloth. I like how it feels and also the results of this softer approach. If I have a really big picture, I'll sometimes use glue tape instead. I hope that helps.

Instead of gel medium, I used clear packing tape. It take some time but it works well.
@theschoolofcreativemagic7 жыл бұрын
I love the effect of clear masking tape! Do you have any tips for making sure it's flat? I get so nervous about getting folds in it.
