Thank you for watching and glad to see you. I am hoping all is well in your orchid world! ...and yes the psychopsis orchids are really amazing plants...and when you see one you will never get them confused with another orchid because they have such distinct and recognizable traits...and along with the fact that they only have 5 known species and are not candidates for complex hybradizing...they will more then likely continue to stay true to their form. In that regard they are very unique blooms. I do hope that you get one soon...try to find one with two or 3 spikes in that way you may be able to have a spike in bloom almost continuously. It definitely is a worthwhile orchid...one of my faves!

loved your video and your specimens. I recently repotted my Psychopsis as I felt the moss it was in kept it too wet. the roots were not healthy and the leaves we very dry looking. I also kept losing new blossoms just as they started to emerge. roots are now healthy. I am getting many offshoots (hoping more stems) and though I just lost another flower as it was just emerging I remain hopeful. I'm in Laguna Beach CA which is ideal Temps and conditions. I just now placed it outside as humidity is mid 60s and Temps are in high 70s. remaining positive!

I became a Psychopsis green valley owner yesterday. They had them on sale at Osdorp garden center in Amsterdam. Thank you so much for this and the other video you did on them. I learnt more in these two videos than anything else l could find searching the internet. I have a few questions? When it a good time to repot it and what sort of potting mix should l use?

Thanks for taking the time to show this orchid in good detail. I bought one several months ago and it hasn't been doing well. I recently repotted it in leca pebbles/semi hydro. I'm hoping it will start to grow new roots. Appreciate that you took your time to make this video for us. I would love to have another psychopsis, but I find them to be very expensive.

I am so sorry to hear that...I am hoping that it does better for you in the new media. I had one that fizzled out on me in the past and I believe that overwatering had a lot to do with it. So I would definitely keep a close eye on it. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you...and yes they are a bit pricey here as well but I definitely believe that you do get your money's worth from them if you can keep them healthy. The video took me a while to do but I believed it was very important to showcase my findings especially since they were facts that I didn't even know...so I indeed had to share. I believe in many ways they are underrated...so I am hoping they get the credit that they so much deserve.

@@katherineallen7042 Wow, two years already. Still no blooms for me. But my psychopsis is doing great and growing. It’s had three new growths and lots of roots since I got it and the third should be starting to mature it’s pseudobulb in about a month or so. Maybe it will give me a spike this time. It was very small when I got it.

My psychopsis' flower spike stop blooming this Spring after 4 year of blooming throughout the Summer and Fall. What should I do with the spike (it still looks like it has a green bud but its not developing)? How do I get the plant to re-bloom or grow a new flower spike?
@PictureMaria1
@PictureMaria1 5 жыл бұрын
Just as long as the spike is still green do not cut it. The spike can stop blooming for a number of reasons but if you continue to provide it all of its requirements usually it will produce an alternative spike off of the same spike and will eventually bloom again. I am finger crossing that everything turns out well and please keep me posted on your results.

Your Psychopsis are beautiful and healthy, so many spikes! :D Mine is yellow and I love it although it's a quite slow grower. :) Since you asked, a while ago I made a video called "Difference between Flower Spike and New Growth on Psychopsis", it shows the difference at a very early stage of growth when the little new shoot is less than a quarter of an inch in size. Happy growing! :)

Unfortunately I don't know where they sell these in your area...and I don't know of any orchid nurseries that internationally. I would suggest perhaps checking online orchid shops if you can't find them locally. You can also research when and where they have orchid shows in Canada. I believe that they will have the most varieties of orchids and they would more than likely have several vendors that carry them. Best of wishes on getting one. They really are so well worth having. Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING!

I am so happy that you got yourself one it is such a worth while orchid and you definitely get a bang for your buckeroonies! I have never had a peloric one but have seen them and they are quite beautiful and also a treat see! It is amazing how one spike is growing from the top of the pseudo bulb!!! I have never seen them do that before...but I learn something new everyday and I know that orchids will do absolutely whatever they want to do and often times they will surprise us and even in some cases prove us wrong....always expect the unexpected with these guys...you never really do know what they will do! But one thing is for sure they have us all on our tippy toes always in great anticipation for the miraculous beauty they present in our lives! HAPPY GROWING AND ENJOY!

Hello Mario. Writing from south Florida. My first bud just blasted😔 what did I do wrong? I grow her outside. Thank you
@PictureMaria1
@PictureMaria1 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. There are many reasons to why Buds blast. Here are some: the plant could be sickly or too weak to sustain flowers so it will blast to conserve energy for its recovery. It could have a fungal, or other infection. It could be infected with insects that are sucking the juices out of the plant or flower (thrips are notorious for that). It could be a sign of under or over watering. It can also just be a normal process...sometimes the plant just does it. Without seeing the plant or knowing what is going on it is impossible to make an educated guess...but hopefully this will help in your process of elimination. I am hoping it is nothing serious and it will get back to blooming as normal. Happy Growing!

The propagations did not take with the twisty ties on the phal and the psychopsis. It was not tight enough to mimic an injury to induce another spike...I did try to twist it tighter but broke a spike so I did not want to attempt it again. So in my case they both did not work unfortunately.

Thank you for the shout out Maria really appreciate it :) Hope 2018 will bring New and exciting adventures. Awesome video on the Psychopsis family, didn’t know that they could branch 😱 now I’m wondering if it can be stimulated to branch by removing the sheath on one of the eyes and painting with coconut water? Lol. I have the alba variety and it looked as if the new bud behind the current flower was going to open and we would have two flowers on the same node, but no such luck lol. Just as the new flower fully opened it sucked the life out of the old one and it shrivelled. So it appears that two flowers on the same node is not possible at least in my experience. So need to see if I can stimulate branching 😈 (poor plant). PS was watching your Angraecum video now and wow she’s a beauty! Can’t wait for my sesquipedale to flower but it’s still and infant 🙈.

Hi Maria, your Psychopsis plants are very happy and healthy. I love the big leaves with mottles as well as many new growth you have. I tried to grow some but every new growth died off prematurely. I think it becomes very vulnerable on water stay inside the tiny leave. It would be nice that you can share how you water these beautiful plants. Do you try to keep the new growths dry completely and avoid spraying on them?
@PictureMaria1
@PictureMaria1 6 жыл бұрын
You are right...the psychopsis orchid can be pretty finicky! I've noticed that too...I lost two already off of mine. Not sure why they do that though...but what I do know is that many people overwater them...and they can tolerate and appreciate some dry time. I think that is what happened to mine...and water from the media instead of from the top or spraying that may help as well. :)
