Pie Jesu Lyrics, English Text Translation, and History by Aaron Green Updated January 09, 2019 Inspired by two separate tragedies-a journalist who had interviewed him just weeks before dying in Northern Ireland as a result of the IRA conflicts, and the story of a Cambodian boy who was forced to murder his mutilated sister or be executed himself-Andrew Lloyd Webber took to writing music as a way to cope with and express his grief. When he finished his Requiem, Webber dedicated it to his father who passed away in 1982. Webber's Requiem is his most personal composition, and his only fully completed classical work. The requiem is a striking, yet welcome, departure from the style of music for which Lloyd Webber is known. Webber's Requiem was first performed in New York City, New York in the St. Thomas Church on February 25, 1985, with conductor Lorin Maazel, soprano Sarah Brightman (who, at the time, was his wife), tenor Placido Domingo, and child soprano Paul Miles-Kingston. In 1986, Requiem earned Lloyd Webber a Grammy Award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition. In addition, "Pie Jesu" placed among the top 10 in British music charts earning the Requiem the Silver Certification by the British Phonographic Industry. Sorry, is this from the official translation? Because there is a bit of the mistake in the mention of the Father as it is not mentioned in the original Latin lyrics of Webber. Even because theologically it is not the Father who takes away the sins of the world and He definitely is not the Lamb of God. Both of the title Pie Jesu and Agnus Dei refers to the Son. Thanks!

I have this song by Marie Osmond and she sings it in all of her concerts now, in tribute to her son, Michael, who committed suicide several years ago. I was listening to Marie's version and this one popped up and so I gave it a listen to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just LOVE it as much as Marie Osmond's version!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys are so wonderful on the song, even though I don't know the words, it must be in another language!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The loveliness of this rendition of Pie Jesu is just indescribable. With so much animosity occurring within families, and between generations, it is moving to see mother and daughter collaborating like this. On KZbin, this is my favorite rendition of this piece. Two angels, related by blood, harmonizing the most beautiful piece of music in the world. Both of them, equally, make me feel proud to be a human being, something I don't often feel given mankind's destructiveness. I love this so much, I have taken to keeping the window open and listening to it every few days.
