How are those pieces connected that they are holding, what did you used?

You just have to bend the tabs through corresponding connection points. No glue is required.

Hi, does this model need the bend assist tools from piececool? I've been looking everywhere but I can't seem to find the answer

No, you don't need them. You can use so many other tools to bend the models in shape.

This is all what I have sorry. If this is your very first metal model than I wish you success. This model is not an easy one especially for beginners.
