I thought that Laura’s (Jane’s) father may have been molesting her and got her pregnant, therefore was trying to kill Andy as no one could ever find out what he was doing to his own daughter. Why else would he try so rigorously to poison her and cause a miscarriage. In turn why would Jane want him dead so bad… seems stupid to kill him when she could just run away and never come back 🤷♀️ Bit killing him because he sexually abused her and was now trying to kill a baby that is either his or Nicks, is understandable… have to admit Janes father acted very creepy towards her. I think this will come out next season … that he was drugging her to rape her and Jane is unsure of who Andy’s real father is… that is my guess.

I found it enjoyable and interesting to follow a tightly woven plot. There were a few non nonsensical points, such as why embarrassing his father would give jasper the company. And Andys father ramming the car so hard that it could just as easily have killed her, which was not in line with his motivations. The throat slitting SEALs move was completely unrealistic and didnt fit the plot at all. I kinda like that there was a lot of flawed characters, such as Jasper, Jane and Nick.

Honestly, Laura was okay but I found her character to be very rude towards those who love her such as Andy, Gordon, and Charlie. Andy wasn’t as annoying as everyone’s saying however the pacing and her scenes were extremely boring where I preferred the flashbacks as they were more vibrant and dramatic. Another problem is that Laura and young Jane are absolutely nothing alike physically, therefore my mind never associated them as the same person throughout the show and there were too many different plots and potential but the season felt overall quite bland and tasteless. I would like a better villain, a better plot twist. I think the setting and the plot had great potential however the age casting was off and the excecution was dull.

So I finished it a few days ago. Honestly I was a bit disappointed. My mum always raves about Karen Slaughter books so I thought I was in for a fun ride. But it took me till episode 5 (out of 8) to get to the interesting part. The build-up was way too slow. And then there were a lot of unnecessary scenes that contributed nothing to the story which was quite odd and threw off the pacing even more. Also the show wasn't visually interesting at all. Every shot was straightforward. The good thing was that I still think the actress playing the mum is a stellar actress. (I've seen her in stuff before). All the scenes set in the past were well done too. And they had some stuff they showed early on that came back in a surprising way as the show went on. The ending was left very open ended which only makes sense if there will be another season. As it is it is sadly very bland and uninteresting most of the time. I think you can easily skip it and not miss out.

I was watching but only with mild amusement. Then there came the clichés and more clichés. And finally I decided this must be from a book written in about 1975. But I looked it up and it was really written in 2018 apparently by some author trapped in the 1970's. For the younger viewer that hasn't seen many 1960's and 1970's movies it's probably entertaining. For the older of us we start to roll our eyes. A problem: The flashbacks. The actors used for the younger versions of characters look too much like the present day versions of other characters. So it's hard to keep track of who's who and whether it's a flashback or not.

You missed the big plot twist. Nick did not cut the throat of the professor that they where keeping hostage. As Jane was trying to release the hostage, the hostage stabbed Jane in the hand and Jane turned her hand around to cut the women hostage's throat just like she cut the gun man's throat in the diner. After the diner incident in her tv interview, she said that she had a previous injury to her hand and that she had lost some feeling in the hand and that's why she was able to use that hand even with a knife in it. Jane's memory showed Nick getting stabbed in the hand, but that was just her mind unable to accept what she had done. Jane was not only responsible for her fathers death, she also killed the woman they were holding hostage. That is why Jane wanted to kill Nick and why Jane was so worried about what Nick is telling the FBI.

In both the book and the series, we learn through flashbacks that Jane and her older brother, middle child Andrew, are thick as thieves: She even names her daughter Andy after him. However, the circumstances of their relationship-and Andrew’s eventual death-differ significantly between the two versions of the story. In the book, Andrew was a serious junkie for just about Jane’s entire life, swearing off heroin only after meeting Nick and dedicating himself to Nick’s socialist cause. When Jane later realizes Andrew is dying of AIDS, she assumes he contracted it during his years of drug use; she doesn’t realize Andrew is also a closeted gay man until Jasper breaks the news to her after his death. In the show, Andrew doesn’t have much of a drug problem to speak of, and Jane is well aware of his sexuality; in fact, Nick used to be romantically entangled with Andrew before he met Jane. When Andrew dies, it’s a direct result of his involvement with Nick’s work: as the Army of the Changing World scrambles to flee a police raid on their safehouse, Andrew incurs a gunshot wound that goes untreated and eventually causes sepsis.
