an interesting one for me is the Looney Tunes Private Snafu 1945 short "Secrets of the Caribbean", it was completely finished but unreleased due to WW2 ending, the story is that the army was given the master of that short and they disposed of it due to having no real use for it anymore, but i've not heard any actual concrete evidence to back up that claim so it could potentially still be out there somewhere.

I haven’t finished the vid yet, but I’d just like to add that a good example of “Theoretical Lost Media”, would be all the books that existed in ancient times that we just don’t know anything about. Like, we don’t have complete lists of what books were available in the Library of Alexandria or Dar Al-Hikma, so who knows what’s exactly lost or not? And it’s also kinda sad to think about all the stories and songs that used to exist but don’t anymore and that there’s no info or references mentioning their existence.

My theoretically lost piece of media is a lost final cliffhanger scene in the series finale to the 2017 reboot of DuckTales. In 2021 it was revealed that the series was canceled and season 3 would be the last season. In response to this one of the show runners said on twitter something around the lines of this “We wrote every season finale to work as the series finale”. The thing is if you look back at the previous 2 season finales the final scene was always a cliffhanger to hype up the next season. My theory is that season 3 had a cliffhanger scene like this too, but it was cut when the crew found out it was going to be the last season. If this was the case, I wouldn’t even be shocked if only story boards exist of that scene.

This reminds me of my theory of there being a lost Pokémon episode with Ash as a Pikachu. For context, at the end of the episode Hocus Pokémon, Ash gets accidentally turned into a Pikachu by a spell gone wrong, but while he doesn't revert back before the episode's end, he does right at the beginning of the following one. Since I feel the concept of a human turning a into Pokémon has too much potential to be used so briefly in the anime, I've considered the possibility of there being an episode planned to be in between them, in which he's transformed for the entirety of the episode, which got scrapped early on.

Sailor Moon's original dub by DiC/Cloverway never extended to the fifth season, called Sailor Stars. The dubbed version was heavily censored, and that original last season had many major plot points that would've been very difficult if not impossible to cut or rewrite to keep the same age rating. We don't know if there was an attempt made, but I'd be morbidly curious if there is some lost content for it that was from them trying to work out how to work around the Starlights gender bending and all the death.

here is a semi-lost media that people didn't know or talk about it yet. When I work as intern at one of the animation studio X, they show use their studio reel which is similar to what they show on their site. Until at the end of the reel there's an one Mock Up animation of He-Man in a Marvel's Super Hero Squad style in fully 2D rig style. In that shot, He-Man as Prince Adam pull his iconic sword transformation, but nothing happen. He shaking his sword (like when you hit the flashlight when it wont work) and do again. Then he become He-Man and they show the Title (I forgot the full name) then after that we see Skeletor as Marvel's Super Hero Squad style but bigger head and smaller (super cute) sneak into random space-car and jump in it and ride off. The End. I really like that shot so much, I tried to find it but I can't (cos I didn't work on the project) and later on I heard that they decide the scrap the project due to the backlash of The new Thunder Cat Reboot (IMOP they r super different). I think at the end the pitch become He-Man and the Masters of the Universe on Netflix, but I could be wrong on that one. I have no clue where is the mock up shot anymore as far as I know my intern studio sent it off the client and can't access to the shot any more. Thats the not so good part about working as outsource.

Self or Selph from the semi-obscure game franchise NiGHTS Into Dreams is technically considered "lost media" since that character was originally meant to be a SECRET UNLOCKABLE boss fight after completing the objectives whether hidden or shown in some ways just like how the classic Sonic games have objectives to get the Chaos Emeralds. But alas Self was cut due to lacking enough time to prioritize NiGHTS' 1996 SEGA Saturn debut unfortunately, Self is so far 1 of the NiGHTS' fandom holy grail of NiGHTS lost media. Well any 'Self' related concept art or official art is considered as "theoretical or potential lost media" since it has yet to be found, whether via data mining the original NiGHTS game and its prototypes or through other methods. Another "potential or theoretical NiGHTS game related lost media" is the so called rumored "Air NiGHTS Sequel" project for the SEGA Dreamcast, before said console got discontinued along with SEGA's unfortunate console war dropout. Nothing else much known about the Air NiGHTS project other than perhaps another code name for NiGHTS' game sequel NiGHTS Journey of Dreams. Yeah, Air NiGHTS is kinda "POTENTIAL OR THEORETICAL LOST MEDIA" to me at least. I really do recommend checking out DigiValentine's videos about NiGHTS, especially the 1s about the NiGHTS data mining for the original SEGA Saturn game where a lot of NiGHTS related discoveries have been made there! That data mining fan project started last year and still continues, 25 plus years since that game's release finally revealing its secrets after such difficulties and long time to eventually figure out the SEGA Saturn's code. Speaking of the ostrich segment, I have an experience kinda similar to that. He covered most of the show, up until the season 5 episode, "Lone Rat and Cubs," and abruptly stopped reviewing the show after that. The final review doesn't give any indication that it was going to be the last one either, so I sometimes wonder if Andre had reviews of any of the remaining episodes that were scrapped for whatever reason.

Jason Demarco confirmed that Trigun was almost going to be on Toonami but the standards and practices said no because of the gun violence. He never said if they actually went as far as attempting to edit it, though or if it was just a flat "no" without even trying. But part of me wants to think there's at least an episode of Vash with a "blaster" and totally secular Wolfwood out there and that someday we'll find it. Also the Toonami edit of Inuyasha which is much more likely to exist. They actually confirmed that they were very, very close to getting it onto the block but Inuyasha being pinned to the tree was the ONLY thing preventing it and it couldn't be edited. Meaning they probably edited at least the first episode, but there's still no proof it exists.

The idea of theoretical lost media made me think of one from my tv watching experience: On Seattle, WA’s local channels between 2004 and 2006 (no cable for me back then), there were lots of commercials for Orville Redenbacher popcorn that were the old ads from the 70’s featuring Orville, with modern title cards at the end. Once I remember seeing an Orville Redenbacher ad similar to those, except it was the outtakes (or made to look like the outtakes) of his classic ads, for humorous effect. He’d start to talk about his popcorn, but then spill the pot of popcorn he was holding mid-sentence, and he even got swarmed by bees in another scene. It seems like this commercial would have gotten internet buzz for how strange and funny it was, but I can’t find it or mention of it anywhere.

No one will care about this comment but there’s this series I loved called Michi Guau. It was by a KZbin kids channel called El Reino Infantil. Yes, I know it’s strange to say I unironically love a YT kids series, but it was actually good. Anyway, the series only lasted for 2 volumes due to unpopularity (volumes are Reino Infantil’s equivalent to seasons, so whenever I say volume, just imagine them as seasons). Volume 2, as well as the whole series ended with its final song La Tía Monica in 2018, which I believe that was Reino Infantil’s final song of that year. I’m mentioning all this because by your definition, I think volume 3 of Michi Guau could be considered theoretical lost media. It never existed, but it’s a possibility it could have at one point. I think it’s possible someone at the head of the company had thought of or even had planned to continue the series for a 3rd volume, but ultimately decided otherwise, again, because of unpopularity. My evidence for this is that despite the series ending at the end of 2018, the channel was still using their songs in compilations all the way until October of 2019 (since El Reino Infantil is a kids channel, they very frequently post compilations of their songs). I think the fact that they kept using the songs in compilations in all that extra time, it could’ve meant that they were possibly intending to keep the series going but again, decided not to. So again, I’d say by your definition, Michi Guau volume 3 could be considered theoretical lost media, although volume 3 definitely should’ve happened, and still should happen, the series was awesome.

As a slight correction, while 4kids one piece skipped 2 story arcs, the episode count is also lowered due to the amount of censorship going so high that they had to start taking footage from future episodes to fit a half hour timeslot, leading to some very strange episode endings. My own personal example of this concept is the Zatch Bell dub, that aired on CN in the US. The first 77 episodes aired, then episodes 78-104 only aired in Canada. However, despite the dub's cancellation, the episode preview for episode 105 still exists, and it confirms that they cast a voice for the upcoming new character, Coral Q. This makes me wonder, if there was any progress on dubbing episode 105 and later, how much of it existed? It feels wasteful to cast someone just for the dub to be cancelled after they voiced in a single preview.

They skipped WAY more than two story arcs They cut out multiple story arcs(they mostly cut anime filler arcs) and also cut the two times the anime adapted the manga cover stories. in the Manga, the cover(which in most Shonen manga is just an art page) tells stories for characters somewhere else in the story. The anime only adapted two of these. And 4kids cut both.

Ep 25 onwards were left uncensored, the voice cast is interesting to listen too and their choice of translations were quite odd (for example they used literal translations for some attacks like calling the Gum Gum Fruit the Rubber Rubber Fruit, or renaming Zoro's Tatsumaki to "Zoro Tornado". There's a theoretical lost episode of the infamous Ghost Stories dub, which also ties into a lost episode of the OG Ghost Stories. So, there was supposed to be an episode of Ghost Stories that focused on the slit-mouthed woman. However, it was pulled from broadcast before airing because of backlash that her scars resembled a cleft palate. So all that remains of this episode is previews at the end of the episode before it. Because of this, it also was not included for dubbing. But had it aired, we could've had one more tasteless, hilarious, and wild episode to include in an already insane anime dub catalogue. So it is theoretically lost.

this video makes me think of this other kinda lost media rumor thing. there were two previously lost king of the hill ads crossing the show over with fox kids shows (one was with the silver surfer, the other with a variety of fox kids characters). at the ends of these bumpers it would say "fox kids heads for the hills" which may have indicated at there being a censored version of some of the episodes, but none of them when found (if there are any) to prove that they exist.

For the anime segment, little things like this (plus things like censorship or poor characterization to appease to different audiences) is why I overall prefer watching sub to dub. Nothing against dub in itself, you just really are missing out a lot sometimes. Digimon Adventure is a good example, that series was butchered in the dub imo, especially the movie which in original is actually three entire separate movies they decided to frankenstein together for the US audience for whatever reason. Actually this makes for a good potential lost media - if all the separate movies were dubbed instead of what we got.

Almost every Beatles album Ringo had at least one song the exceptions are A Hard Day’s Night, Magical Mystery Tour, and Let It Be. Magical Mystery started as an EP so it isn’t an intended Beatles album, which explains why there isn’t a Ringo song on it. The other two A Hard Day’s Night and Let It Be offer much more speculation for why there is no Ringo song. Another case of Beatles theoretical lost media is Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane on Sgt Pepper. In 1967 EMI wanted a new Beatles single and contacted George Martin, so he could Get two songs to turn into a single. Two of the completed songs were Strawberry Field and Penny Lane, George Martin thought theses were the best songs in the batch so he pick them. In an alternate world George Martin picked another combination of the songs to be made into a single while the rest were kept on the album.

Kinda funny you ended up showing Bleach and Katekyo Hitman Reborn because those series could be considered theoretical lost media in a different way. Because other series anime got discontinued, you can’t watch the anime from start to finish. Which is a shame for any anime that have gotten such treatment. And even if they get continued one day, it wouldn’t be the same as if it was produced at the same time as the original run of the series. Anyways this was a fun thought process at the very least, especially the bumper one because you actually got a point.

It's weird to me that Gin Tama didn't get an English dub until way later, not because of its content (which, yes, is very Japan-focused for its pop culture references), but because I had sworn that I had watched the Owee episodes in English back when I first learned about the show in the early 2010's. I actually had to go back and check and my memory was wrong. I just remember seeing the subtitles and my mind had framed them as just there for clarity, like translator notes.

I wonder if the original Reboot movie would fit into this category? I believe that it was meant to be a conclusion to the original series + the first few movies. The team behind it (I think they were called Mainframe at the time) teased it for years and even released bits and pieces of what it would look like (two short videos and I think a few stills?) then for whatever reason, the project seemed to halt and we got this hybrid CGI/live action kid's show instead. EDIT: I think there was a webcomic somewhere down the line as well, but I'm not sure if that's currently lost or not.

Even 40 years ago it was common for music to have music videos. However even obscure music has had music videos. Some of which may be lost. A theoretical lost music videos. @@JacksonSTUFF777 Keep in mind I am recalling this entirely from memory, so there is a chance I may get a detail or two wrong. I might even be wrong about it being aired during an episode of Ned's Declassified. I think it was a one of the Nick Extra bumpers. As for the bumper itself, a girl and this friend of hers went into this backstage area. The girl took her hair out of this ponytail and started having her friend do her hair in different ways. The girl would have her hair in rollers for a bit before having them taken out only to have her hair pinned next before the pins came out and it would show how it looked once it was all done before the announcer said "We'll be right back." Then there was the "Back to the show" version which was photos of the girl who had her hair done from the before phase through all the ways she had it styled in the first bumper. Does it sound familiar to you?

Another bit of theoretical lost anime media could be the dub of Interspecies Reviewers. Funimation had the rights to dub the series, and had a full cast ready to go, but they cancelled the show after the notorious third episode aired, just shy of when the dub would have also premiered.

I have a good example. My friends and I really liked the movie "Kung Pow" when we were little kids. At the end of the film, there is a fake trailer for "Kung Pow 2". We spent years firmly believing that these were actual scenes from an actual sequel that was going to come out. And we wondered why it was getting so delayed. Well, we didn't get the joke -- the trailer was fake and all the scenes in it were just gags. We thought it was lost or cancelled, but in fact it never actually existed.

5:25 You know I was actually thinking this was going to be about stuff like how some games have completely different ideas and even sometimes entirely different genres in mind early in development and the idea being those original ideas could fall under the idea of "theoretical lost" media in that if things were just a bit different the game might've stayed true to it's original plans unlike how it actually did. For an example of what exactly I mean, the pitch for Tokyo Mirage Sessions was that it would be a SMT x Fire Emblem crossover and the final game is pretty far from what you'd expect from that initial idea being more of a Persona game with some Fire Emblem stuff in it and I've always wondered what the game would've turned out like had they stuck to that original pitch more stringently.

Pearls Before Swine is my favorite comic strip because it’s a lot like ren and Stimpy where they push the limits considering the format it’s in. However, there is a strip where in the end of a storyline, Stephen Pastis (yes, the Author is a character in his own strip) says Dilbert is a stud. He originally said the name of a real life female cartoonist with a rather sexist at best comment. The reason I say it could be lost media is because one of the editors called Pastis to tell him he liked the daily. Had he not told him he liked the sexist at best strip, The strip would have ran in papers and Pearls would no longer be in newspapers. It was that close to being published that it may still exist in said editor’s office. It’s been 15 years, so it’s likely that we could ask every female cartoonist who it is.

It was a Canadian Sci-fi series aired in 2002 about 5 people who go into space and see the destruction of Earth, then are given the chance to go back 5 years into the past to find out and stop what caused Earths destruction. It ended on a cliff-hanger and the series was never finished due to being cancelled by the network who didn't like the ratings it was getting.

when you mentioned One Piece, that reminded me of when 4Kids dubbed Ojamajo Doremi (retitled Magical DoReMi) and they only dubbed the first season, which initially aired in 1999 and 2000, but around the time the dub released, in 2005, the entire series had been finished,, with a total of 4 seasons and an OVA, the season that was dubbed was about as hammy as every other dub, and since said season ended as if the show was done for, the idea of whether or not they'd even do the second season was debatable, though they had used promotional art online using art from the third season, so who knows

You see,I’m a Pokémon fan.and one of the most poplular fan animations is called “the elite four” It’s a video about 6 Pokémon (venusaur, raticate, dodrio, slowbro, lapras and sandsash) facing off against the elite four and champion. It’s a pretty good video for its time. The animation is not lost media at all,you can find it on KZbin. What IS lost is the comic before it. Is a nuzlocke comic where a guy attempts a Pokémon nuzlocke. And I don’t think there could be deaths in it,but I could be wrong. I never read it because I didn’t think it existed, but I learned it was until recently. I wouldn’t be of help on that front, but I do want to see it found. Thank you for reading that, LSSQ. This theoretically lost media also reminds me a bit of the mandelaeffect, cause you might have memories of a lost media, which might turn out to have never existed, eventhough it could have. I have a lost media which doesn't really count in a category, but it really drives me crazy and I would like to get help finding it, cause I'm actually sure it exsists, but I can't find any recording or mention of it online :/ So basically in Sims 2 there is this easteregg that in a very rare chance you can get hit by a sattilite if you watch the clouds. And that happened to my Sim at one point and I got so confused at what had happend XD But now the weird part: I clearly remember that a cinematic sequence played: There was a closeup of my Sim looking in the sky and getting confused scared (I'm not sure but I think he closed his eyes a bit like he was trying to see something in the far). Than you could see the sattilite in a closeup coming closer being a bit on fire or something and then the camera switched again to show how the sattilite hits the ground hitting the Sim. The thing is there is no video from this cinematic anywhere online and I couldn't find anyone mentioning it eighter. The only videos I could find are the ones with the satellite hitting the Sim without the cutscene. So I'm like really confused why I can't find the cinematic anywhere and if it even exists :/ The thing is being hit by a sattilite is already super rare and it could be that the cutscene is only playing in a rare occasion and that would explain why no one has recorded it. I would love to have this solved, but I mean it's not really lost media, just something that might have never been recorded or a flase memory of mine, so I don't know who I could ask for help with this ^^''

Scott Cawthon creator of Five Nights at Freddy’s was originally a failing game creator with none of his games doing too well financially and was going to quit game development for a new career but decided to throw his hat in the ring one last time and made FNAF. However he has stated that he was deciding between FNAF, The Desolate Hope 2, and Legacy of Flan 5. The latter now being theoretical lost media. He also stated that he made FNAF 4 due to complaints of the jumpscares in FNAF 3 not being scary. for me it's more like a case for lost media that has its existence unconfirmed and probably it's just a bunch of BS but it sounds perfectly believable. if you know what you're talking about you're capable of making up a completely false story which just sounds like it's true. Saki Sanobashi being an obscure violent OVA from late 80s may be fake but still it definitely could exist back then even as a short manga

A great example of your third type of theoretical lost media is an English dub for Kin-iro Mosaic. The show is great but never got an English dub and almost certainly never will. Why? Numerous parts of the show are focused on gags and storylines about the characters respective language that would be extremely hard to translate while still keeping them effective. My example for theoretical lost media actually has to do with a Face bumper that I remember seeing as a kid that I call Face has chickenpox/measles. This bumper aired during a Blues Clues marathon on the UK version of Nick Jr. in either 2003 or 2004. From what I recall, it featured a light-green background, Face's eyes and mouth were squinted, and there appeared to be white steam coming out of his mouth, he also had red spots all over. There was no dialogue or sound effects, it just showed that still image between each episode and ad break, and I remember seeing it multiple times. Sadly, my attempts to find this bumper have been in vain: no images; no videos; just no evidence of its existence. This one has been bugging me for years.
