Update: A new piece of Backyard Gang lost media has been recently discovered by instagram user barney_edits_ of a photo of Barney at a live show that’s based on Campfire Sing Along from 1990 with Michael and Lucy and other children that didn’t appear in the video. @@raretendo6879 well the funny thing is I was born in 93, so the fact I specifically remember that Barney is kinda odd to me because you dated it being till 92, but when I saw it the old version it hit me like a train thats the Barney I remember and the doll I had was that one with the green spots and the white teeth. And seeing him in the screen really brought it back, I think I had some kind of movie of him something with a castle but as I got older it faded from my head because as I grew out of it and saw it over the years I always saw the newer Barney

The reason the original 3 videos hasn’t been released since 1993 is because of them not wanting to show the original designs of Barney due to how most kids then saw him.

That could be one of the reasons why I mean Barney does look different compared to Barney & Friends but I can’t find any source that claims that, but another reason they never re-released them is because they didn’t want kids to be confused with it with Barney & Friends and because the production was cheaper than the home videos and Seasons 1-3, I think you meant about that even though they re-release the other six BYG videos which also has cheap looking videos compared to every video and episodes after it. They we’re going to re-release them in 1994 and 1995 but that idea was scrapped for unknown reason. Another reason is that some fans pointed out it could be due to licensing issues with some of the songs or Sandy Duncan herself. Also new information regarding of the master tapes was discovered according to KZbinr jennifrog on a HedgeOnStage livestream in 2017 when the Lyons offices were closed, the masters were moved to Fisher Price’s building in New York. Which means the master tapes of The Backyard Gang videos do still exist at least according to this channel I can’t seem to find where the channel found that source but that seems likely true. So even if those will probably never get an official release again, at least the master copies do still exist. It’s better than having piece of lost media that’s kept safe than just be lost forever, Pokemon Live and Blue Prints pilot for example which the masters still exists it just hasn’t officially been released to the public, that’s all.

I have a copy of Rock With Barney on audiocassette. It's not the ultra-rare one though. It has the 1992 Barney Home Video logo on it. It's a childhood favorite. My mom had it because she was a kindergarten teacher in the 90s, and I used to listen to it all the time back in '99. I didn't know that it was rare though.

This is a very interesting history video. But from what I can speculate: The early footage for A Day At The Beach & Three Wishes I heard was test footage, before production even started, but I don't really think that's true. I've seen a news article that shows a picture of Barney performing live with Mother Goose(played by a different actress). Maybe that had something to do with the abandoned Mother Goose Land episode. I don't know. The A Day At The Beach sing-along cassette used to be on KZbin a long time ago. The Barney Vault said he would reupload it, but he hasn't yet. And the 1990 concert was most likely delayed because that was when David Voss left. Originally, it was a woman in the Barney costume, but she got too nervous to perform live, so that's when David Joyner was hired. Plus Nickelodeon most likely only showed promos and commercials for the videos, not the actual episodes. I know I've seen Siskel & Ebert talk about Barney Goes To School on their holiday special(it's in a video called The Dinosaur Sensation: The History Of Barney - Episode 1 (Barney's Beginnings), which is a fanmade documentary on KZbin, similar to I Love You, You Hate Me). Also I think the "Early Years" collection was later changed to Classic Collection. They probably didn't re-release the first 3 videos due to licensing with many of the songs or for Sandy Duncan's appearances. I find it weird they stop printing those to avoid confusions with the Barney & Friends show, when they still sold the other videos until 2001.

The mother goose photo your talking about I don’t know if your taking about the one on the Barney wiki it doesn’t really have Barney just David Joyner and it was probably for Barney & Friends since the cast from that show appeared in the photo. And I heard about that story about the woman in the Barney costume which your right about it but Sloan Coleman in the Barney documentary said Barney in Concert first premiered in November 19, 1990 so it’s possible David Voss played Barney in that stage show before he got a call to the military. And if the Nickelodeon stuff is true then I’m surprised no promos or commercials of it hasn’t appeared online. Also new information regarding the master tapes of the BYG, Seasons 1-6, home videos from the 90s, according to a channel named Jennifrog on a HedgeOnStage livestream the channel said the master tapes we’re moved to the fisher price building in 2017. Which is likely confirmed the master tapes do still exist so even if 90s Barney media besides soundtrack albums and the movie will probably never be officially re-released again, at least it’s good to know the master tapes do still exist. Barney in concert being released on video has nothing to do with when the concert actually happened. The ProShot of Hamilton came out 5 years later. You can always release a ProShot anytime later than the last occurrence of the live show

I know but Sloan P Coleman said the concert premiered in November 19, 1990 so it’s possible there’s differences between the one that was first premiered in 1990 and the one that was taped in March 14, 1991 and later released on home video in July 29, 1991. I mean is it possible David Voss played Barney in that stage show before he joined the military that same year and the stage show wasn’t taped until 4 months later. Also from what I’ve heard there was supposed to be a lady to perform Barney but she was too nervous to be on stage if what i can remember so they got David Joyner to perform the character instead. And in The Best of Barney bonus feature Barney’s Favorite Memories there’s an unused shot of Baby Bop that’s no where to be seen on the VHS and VCD release which really begs the question if an alternate version of Barney in Concert actually exists with different shots, angles or even deleted scenes like why is Baby Bop in the 1991-1994 VHS cover of the Bubble, Bubble Bath song despite in the home video she doesn’t appear in that scene which either could just made for a production photo or Baby Bop was actually was supposed to be in that scene until we get that answer I guess we’ll never know.

Possibly, although the photo of the B&Fs version of Barney in Concert could be from mid or late 1991. And since Barney was still obscure to the general public compared to later there seems to be no footage of that version of Barney in Concert available online, so for now it’s just a mystery if they either played the B&Fs theme or the BYG one. And if they did played it it would’ve been either an early demo version of the song or same exact version as it is in the tv show. But for now there’s not enough evidence to prove that, as well whether they omitted most of the songs as we only have one available photo of it. But I do wonder if they used the same voice recordings for Barney and Baby Bop on how it was originally first showcased in March 1991 or both of them were fully or partially re-recorded to say the characters names from Barney & Friends. But who knows maybe a channel like Barney Builder will find footage of it, as he’s really good at finding Barney media that’s not accessible to the public, but for now only time will tell.

And since I can easily recognize Kathy, Min, Shawn, and Tosha, the BYG rap was probably replaced as well. Amy and Adam are part of the rap, but Kathy, Min, Shawn, and Tosha are not. If they did not use BYG Rap or We Are Barney and the Backyard Gang, then do you suppose that they replaced those two songs with two other songs that were not in the Barney in Concert VHS?

Its very obvious because derek has his glasses and min and tosha is there. Tosha came in mid season 1 so thats a an entirely different show. That is not barney in concert at all. But the problem is she doesn’t have a social media account, she seems like a private person, she probably doesn’t want to get attacked by Barney haters especially what happened during the Barney bashing days in the 90s, and also that incident happened in 2013 of her son Patrick Leach controversy. So there’s no way of asking these questions to her online unless if she makes a social media account which at this point seems really unlikely to happen.
