@@MrMutou I have two theories as to why Michael hates Toby: 1) Toby is the personification of what Michael hates and / or fears he might become: he does not laugh at his jokes, is overly serious... he's also your typical depressed middle-aged guy whose family life is a bit of mess - a concept that Michael seems to find really scary, as he is himself an aging person who lives for fun and fears he might never even get to start a family. 2) As an HR rep, Toby is the only person in the office who has authority over Michael, and some actual power to put him in his place and hold him accountable for his inappropriate behavior (I'm not really familiar with how HR work in the US, but from what I can gather from the show, Toby seems to act as a corporate delegate, rather than to take orders from the regional manager). Michael permanently treats the office as his playground and his employees as his toys, and Toby is basically the one adult in the room who gets to remind him that it's not okay to run around breaking stuff - something that Michael can simply not put up with. That answer is way too long but there you go.
