All jokes aside, an Australian cricketer died some years ago when a ball hit him in the head. Cricket balls are almost like a solid, ball shaped piece of concrete. Brett Lee, the bowler, is one of the world's all time best fast bowlers. He was already retired when this was done.

In case you Americans are wondering, a cricket ball is a rock hard piece of wood and you would NOT ever want to be hit by a cricket ball coming at you at 90 MPH. A year after this incredibly stupid stunt, a professional Test match player called Phil Hughes was hit by a cricket ball in the back of the neck and killed. Trust me, a stupid stunt like this will never be allowed to happen again.

The games is called cricket. It's a different type of ball to a baseball, it's a lot harder and more solid than a baseball. It's not sand, it's heavily compressed soil. In how solid/hard it is, its probably closer to concrete than sand.

Lee was very much in control, but yeah - he was trying to hurt him. No bowler would behave like this in a real game, no umpire would allow it. It would be a brawl. That bouncer could have decapitated him had he charged, this is more horror than comedy. I always knew Lee was secret arsehole - nobody of his skill bowls that many beamers (in his playing days).

Piers Morgan was lucky to dodge the one that was aimed at his head. Brett Lee and the other Australian bowlers had a little known competition between themselves. Who could crack the most helmets of their own team mates in practice. Just to add a little context 150kph is very, very fast, and the cricket ball is quite a bit harder than a baseball.

Three of the deliveries Just whistled past Close's chin as he just managed to avoid them. One of them caught him in the ribs. It was an incredible spell of bowling, although he did get warned by the umpire for bowling too many intimidatory deliveries.

Clair, is was Phil Hughes who died after being hit on the back of the head by a ball from Sean Abbott. The incident happened November 2014, the Brett Lee Piers Morgan challenge occurred December 2013 at the practice nets attached to the MCG. At that point in time Brett Lee was still playing for the Sydney Sixers T20 franchise and had only just retired from all other forms of cricket. He took the most wickets for the Sydney Sixers in season 2014/5. Piers Morgan was an idiot for doing such and very lucky not to get badly hurt given Brett could see him backing away and bowled to where he was going hitting him several times.

You do know that in baseball the hitter has to decide to swing at the ball the moment it leaves the pitcher's hands? In the MLB a fastball will cross home plate in .4 seconds. So think about that for a minute. The hitter has less then 1/10th of a second to decide to swing or not and then where to swing. Number 1 rule in the hitters box, keep your eye on the ball, if you blink you missed. Not sure how fast you need to react in cricket but it seems pretty similar.

Baseball needs faster reaction time, but cricket is different in the sense that bowlers will target your body...so intimidation factor does make a difference.
