So, here’s how it goes down: Piers catches Pakman trying to dismiss a whole UN report as ‘just a footnote,’ when it clearly isn’t. So what does Piers do? He pulls it up on the screen to show everyone that it’s actually right there, front and center, not some buried little side note. And what’s Pakman’s response? Does he say, ‘Hey, maybe I got that wrong’? No, he doubles down and pulls the ol’ ‘Look at the source’ trick. Yeah, look at the source, David-but there’s nothing there backing up your claim. He’s pointing at invisible evidence, trying to keep everyone’s attention away from the fact that he got called out. And when Piers starts to push back on this nonsense, what does Pakman do? He's not a total fool in the sense that he wants to sell drama and is thus aiming for it, but in doing so is also deceiving the people, in part with the usage of gaslighting and keeping nuances/details behind closed doors. Which all in all kind of makes him an a-hole. There's little true intent for a real debate or exchange of thoughts because you have to let people tell the full story and show respect to let the other side also speak. Piers is treating it as a boxing match and there is no sincerity towards truth in that. It's probably the same reason why he backed Trump here and there, because it sells.

I’m a coach in girls club volleyball. I have never, after coming into contact with 100s of teams ever coached or competed against a transgender girl. I’m not sure where I would fall on the issue if I was faced with it, but the point David that you’re making is spot on. Compared to the economy, fair taxation, healthcare, lack of affordable housing, etc, it is a very tiny issue. I also work in a school with a number of LGBTQ kids, and I am worried about them.

Even in that case, they distort it. “She’s 6’1”!” Very common in D1 volleyball with women topping out at 6’8”. “She hit a girl right in the face!” Welcome to D1 women’s volleyball. Her former teammate estimating she spikes 80 mph. Yeah, no. The hardest hitter on our men’s national team maybe can hit that hard. So, in summary, in my direct experience very rare and then distorted when it occurs.

I think republicans realised that all their other issues were losers in 2012-14. They lost all these favorite issues from the 90s: - Abortion is no longer a close issue nationally - Being openly homophobic without heavy innuendo and dog whistling is now radioactive even in Trumpistan - Most people think drugs should at some level be legalized - They can't really rely on pushing a narrative that Democrats are soft on Russia or China or w/e So they started pushing the trans stuff because they know they can hit that middle-America G-spot with that stuff AND minorities who are much socially conservative will also think that stuff is weird and could become one-issue republican voters over it.
