"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on KZbin. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on KZbin, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode. “That Raytheon decided they don’t hate gays or trans people - frankly, I don’t really give a shit what their take on that is..."

Pier Morgan is such a hack. Instead of actually engaging with Tate's bad ideas, he brings up a tragic child suicide in a sad attempt at a "gotcha". Piers is so bad at his job that Tate actually comes out looking pretty good from this clip. If you had never heard of Tate before, you wouldn't understand what makes him so controversial. Out of ALL the vile stuff Tate has spewed, he chooses "Younger woman are more attractive" as the idea that needs to be exposed...

@Ink129
@Ink129 Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Finally someone pointing this out in the comments instead of praising Kyle's "nuanced take" on Andrew Tate. It's about women not being "tainted"/"dirty" - an age-old misogynistic view on women. It's also about young, and generally more inexperienced and impressionable, girls being more easily controlled and taken advantage of. Many women in their middle 20s and older can much more easily spot the red flags (it comes with experience) and see people like Andrew Tate as the cretins that they are.

Bruh, Misogyny is pure hatred for women. This is a preference, or as tate said "Ageist" in the most extreme view. It's not hard to find a man who would be more sexually attached to younger women, nor should it be offensive to older women, because they too would admit that they probably looked a little better from 18 to their early 20s. You missed by a mile but got so close. The depression was there not from social media (though that was a contributer) but mainly from irl stuff for most kids. And of course there are exceptions to any rule but we can agree that most men don’t want the “around the block” girl, we generally do not go looking for that, with that being said that type of woman may have appeal for some men but I would argue that’s probably in the minority. We are of a particular nature as men, there is no denying it if we are going to be honest. The question of whether women are inferior is a straw man, women and men are opposites. The question does not make sense . We are different in every way, we are opposite but complimentary (for the most part) so when you ask if women are inferior to men it’s not a real question, the two can’t be weighed in that fashion.

His comment of "I like 19 year olds than 25 year olds" isn't misogynistic on its face. You could argue the justification he gives of "They've gone through more d*ck" is misogynistic (absolutely ageist, which is pretty gross too, whatever you want to call it, it is still a gross statement), as if women only exist to satisfy him and meet his sexual needs. He's not claiming "they are more mature, had more life experiences, more stable, etc" He's literally bringing them down to "They've had more sex so they are used up. The older they are, the more of a whore they are and they aren't enjoyable anymore" I'm just thinking of it like comparing a new fleshlight to a 6 year old used fleshlight. He isn't talking about the woman themselves but more about their sexual parts as if it was his possession as soon as he's with someone. He's seeing a woman as nothing more than a way for him to get off and her urges don't matter. Yet a man somehow doesn't get worn out with more sex like he claims a woman does?

This entire conversation is misogynistic in actuality. Why should any woman's worth be pitted against the ideas that man has about them? But anyways, the main reason it is considered misogynistic to say that women over X-age are 'past their prime' doesn't mean you hate women or value them as less than men, it is saying that their worth is rooted in fertility or beauty either alone, or predominantly. For men like this, a woman's worth is basal, nothing more than sexual. If an older man were to marry a woman based on how she looks at 18/19, he will seek to "replace" her when she is 30 or 40. Men that think like this just think women are to be used and tossed aside, in that way it is pure misogyny. Man's worth is determined by wealth or influence. Woman's in sex appeal. Both these concepts are disgusting and perpetuate the other's short-comings, both allow powerful men to belittle less powerful men and powerless women. Another point of the conversation is that if younger truly is more appealing and desirable to men, 18-21 is a short age range to look for partners. It is heavily implied that these types of men would desire 17, 16, 15... need I go on?

But having a preference for younger women, or as Kyle says, “moldable” suggests a woman who is groomable. A preference for a relationship based on molding a partner to your own preference rather than finding someone who has already established their self. I don't really like throwing around labels like "red pill" or "MGTOW" (men going their own way) because even within those communities they disagree on core philosophies. Many men going their own way are bitter about it. I'm a man going my own way but realize that equal women's rights is for the greater good and believe that the economics of our society haven't yet caught up with the social women's rights movements. It wouldn't bother me to date a woman who's been with multiple guys before me, as long as we can occasionally role play certain fantasies. But until we have a solid social safety net for poverty and medical expenses like many Western European countries do, women are still going to be incentivized to date the guys with the most money. So, I'm just giving up on dating until I permanently move to Europe where money is not a hot topic in dating and where it's common for men and women to split the cost of a meal.

Bro, it has nothing to do with an economic safety net. Women will always want the "best" guy they can get. Men want hot women and women want a hot and more successful man. everything you're saying is meaningless because fundamentally: mate selection is the ultimate form of discrimination. You can whine about how unfair it is. Misogynist, misandrist, degrading, whatever. At the end of the day you can't logic your way into being a romantic prospect. There's no such thing as fairness in the realm of finding a partner. We're all animals with primal subconscious drives, which is _fine_. Any attempt on our part to label it with derogatory terms like "misogynist" which is the current go-to buzzword, is misguided and asinine. Preferences are preferences. As long as you're open about what the terms of the relationship are with your partner and they agree to that of their own free will, do whatever makes you happy.

@@ryanscott6578 I mean you can say that about literally any base instinct. People can have a base instinct to rape and have sex with children--doesn't really make that ok. Am I not allowed to label that with the 'derogatory' term 'pedophilia?' It's also a matter of maturity, plain and simple. If you keep dating children (which 18-20 year olds are, in my book), you'll probably keep being exclusively attracted to them. Simply following your base instincts is terrible advice. You should listen to your instincts but also understand that you're a human with a whole big brain to use, and you can bring that into the picture. I don't judge couples who are of a different age, within reason, but I do judge people who seem to entirely evaluate people of the opposite sex on extremely vapid characteristics that end up having very little to do with what a successful relationship actually looks like. But in Tate's case it goes beyond that--he seems to be angry about the fact that these women have had some life experience, some heartbreak. That's because he views them entirely as empty semen vessels. Obviously we all have that sexual part of our brains, but I reserve the right to call anyone who listens to only that part of their brain a misogynist, sorry not sorry.

You can try and infer bad intent, say it is vapid or misogynist or whatever, but it's a sexual preference. Women have preferences relating to height, income, status, etc for men. One could call this misandrist or vapid, but at the end of the day that's the reality. Women value status, maturity, ambition and resources in men, and men value youth and femininity. Calling 18-20 year olds children is insane to me. You are an adult at that age. Maybe not in America where young adults are infantilized and coddled, but in the majority of the world that is the case. It's hard to overstate how bizarre it is to hear 18-20 year olds referred to as "children" as a non-American.

@@ryanscott6578 Just look at them, they are manifestly children. They look and sound like them too. Legally of course they are not, but it's a neurological fact that your brain doesn't finish developing until your mid twenties. Again, sexual preference I have no problem with, but it's when you let those ultimately shallow preferences color your entire perception of the opposite sex that I have a problem with, and that's very obviously the case for Tate (and I guess probably you too since you're defending him so much). I addressed women with similarly narrow-minded standards in my original comment. I am fine with calling the ones who boil a man's entire existence down to his height and wallet misandrists. There is no contradiction here.

You're trying to make a rationale that isn't there. If it were about depression, Piers would've said this. His statement was geared towards how content on social media can have real life harm. That was his point, as disingenuous as it was in this context.

Bro, the part we’re you have life advice at the end of the video was some of the best life advice that a young man could here. I wish I had that perspective in my teens instead of the pick up artist bs I got sucked into when I got into college. A similar thing happened to me when I started focusing on myself and less on “getting laid” it all just clicked. You should clip that and put it in a short or tic toc

Honestly, I feel bad for the guys caught in the redpill sphere cause teenage me would’ve totally fallen for that shit. How many kids end up there because they KZbind “how to talk to women.” What you said about how the answer is simple, is so fucking true man. You seriously should clip that part, it could help some of those kids if they come across it. Or make a whole video on that community with your take
