This is about respecting boundaries. You cannot assume that only because you might think a kiss on the lips is nothing dramatic, this is true for others as well. In this case Hermoso (and a lot of others) probably considers this an intimate act you do not want with anyone but your family. Recognising, that each person has their own set of boundaries and making sure to respect them is one of the tasks in life. And Rubiales has failed doing that despite his position in which he should act as a role model. Others might have kissed and were (hopefully) okay with it. I know I would not want to be kissed on the lips by a man nor a beautiful woman besides my wife.

I feel really sorry for this man, truly sorry that the entire world of Woke has made yet another victim of sexual emphasis taken to extreme. In my country, Malta, we react similarly to the Spanish people, as do the Italians. It's our Latin blood. What you hear is not the translator, is a dubbing of his responses. At the time of the interview an interpreter would have been present, making communication possible. Then the channel transcribes the words of the interpreter and decides what parts to use.

However, the more this man talks, the more his arrogance shines through. This is a man who was promoted beyond his abilities. President (of anything) means something. Honestly, as a British Woman in her 30s I really think this is all blown out of proportion. It was a moment of passion and being over excited, I just think the girl felt alittle silly after the media and maybe her peers made her feel like it was wrong and she began to believe it. Before and during the WC the female players actually had problems with him and the former coach because they felt uncomfortable with them. @@olivernew4641 actually yes. I will talk from my experience because y played football my whole childhood (I jus want to give you another perspective not fight). You can’t imagine how normalized abuse is in those environments. We were used to coaches making comments, giving hugs, kisses, etc. and we admired them and wanted their approval. They chose who played who didn’t, who was doing good and who wasn’t, so they were always in a position of power, like he was in this situation. And that happened from ages of 12 years old or younger, we grew up with that. This girls grew up with this and maybe they did normalize it at first, but I don’t think that means that what he did was right, it just explains how the abuse culture ir women’s football is. Sometimes you can be a victim of abuse and not realize it at first, I can assure you that I realized I suffered from it after years and a lot of education. Maybe when she saw how people reacted she realized that what she went though was not right and made her uncomfortable, and gave an awful example, she was even pressured by him and the federation to defend him. So I have a lot of empathy for her situation.

I am latina, i am colombian, i also have spanish family and friends and our cultures are very similar because we were colonised by spain. I do not justify him in any way and know he deserves to assume the consequences no matter that others peoples beliefs are through to be above the fact he simply did the wrong thing andbthat is it. The guy lied in the beginning and said she threw herself at him which is the complete opposite, and no matter our culture does accept hugs from any strangers, kisses arent exactly for everyone in every context just like he says that is not true either. Alright, if this is so ridiculous: watch if the next man kisses your girlfriend on the lips in a "moment of joy". Then please also defend that guy with excuses of cultural differences. Why does it always have to affect people personally for them to understand why something may not be appropriate, I never will understand. It depends on the type of kiss and cultural context. My lady got a platonic kiss from an Italian diplomat whom we all respect --- neither abusive nor awkward, and we laughed about it after this Rubiales circus. But, if we're uncomfortable about a (foreign) custom, we're reasonable enough to differentiate between our feeling uncomfortable/awkward and being abused. She used to tease me for not liking hugs from guys, but we wouldn't gaslight to make them believe they're abusers simply coz I'm not comfortable, unless if they insist after telling them of my preferences.

"ius praevium" means no conviction/punishment for conduct not previously declared to be a crime: if the court/legislature wants the act to be regarded a crime (sexual abuse), they have to first make law to criminalise it, and one can't be charged retrospectively. 2. "nullum crimen sine lege" - no crime without law, ie, if no law says a particular conduct constitutes a crime, then that conduct doesn’t constitute a crime. 3. Part of material requirements for crime is intention (or dolus), which has to be proved beyond reasonable doubt. There is no evidence Rubiales intended to sexually gratify himself from the encounter, and the cultural context, Rubiales's word, and Hermoso and teamates joking about it, are all enough grounds to cast reasonable doubt about criminal intention. We're not denying that she felt uncomfortable, but an uncomfortable encounter isn't necessarily synonymous to abuse/crime. This event is revolutionary: and many people have now learnt they've to abandon the platonic kiss custom, but still we can't clam Rubiales is guilty before the custom has been criminalised.

Lastly, you mentioned authority, but authority doesn't nullify platonic cultural context. Pope Francis kisses both babies and authorities, (similar to most parents, yet babies can't consent). The best is to simply acknowledge that although Rubiales's act may not have been a crime, it was awkward, and the event has established a ground for regulating or banning some cultural platonic conducts such as kissing.

@@MyOwnBiko Assuming it's true, the pope has no sexual interactions with others. But good point that church members shouldn't touch others without consent. This was a situation between a man with authority and a women with less authority in public with implications about sexual boundaries. If you followed the situation further, it later came out that her statement did not reflect her actual stance on the situation, and she communicated this. It's also not okay how a lot of the Spanish bosses tried to protect him, but not her. I understand the responsability to both, but if one oversteps a boundary, it's in the interest of everyone to clear up the mess. It boils down to considering boundaries of people first before you act. And if you overstep them, which can happen to some extent, apalogize and don't make yourself the victim. I'm not saying take responsability for everything someone else might be feeling, but consider if what you did may have affected someone else and why. I think he's not very capable of seeing himself as the bad guy. Entitlement can only come so far when there are boundaries and I think he is entitled with very few capabilities of understanding boundaries of others as he showed based on his reactions after. I agree with you that this was awkward and ideally should help contribute to more boundaries and communication between people.

Glad to see so many people writing sense! It would be easy to believe by all the noise the past weeks that there are few with common sense and open eyes about the situation. I have felt anger about what has been driven by Hermoso and the others.. And the sheep noise chorus about it in the media and online. I'm glad he got to speak on the world stage. Some people's eyes are just not prepared to open wide about it, and their noise intensifies. Some sports writer wrote as title of an article on The Guardian website today, along the lines of.. that Rubiales was made to seem reasonable by the soft questions of Morgan. I must say I now have a completely different perspective of this guy. His initial reaction when he was forcefully saying , ' I will not resign' was perhaps ill informed and thus created a rather negative impression of him in the minds of many, including me.
