I loved the feel of this revolver. Perfect balanceI stripped my finish and removed some of the Italian markings. I antiqued it with a rust patina and aged the brass. I stripped the grips of its Italian finish, stained and refinished in oil I didnt have the heart to beat up the grips to age them.. It looked so cool. I smoothed the action and also installed better quality stainless nipples. Cant remember but I may have opened up the sight notch a tad. I was once approached at the range and asked if it was a genuine antique. This is the classic "hog leg" and highly recommended.

Hands down, this is my favorite black powder revolver. It’s absolutely balanced perfectly and I would have no problem using this as my primary carry if it was necessary. Oh and by the way. I also purchased the engraved model Dance too 😎🤙

The engraved Dance looks fantastic! If i didn't already have this one, I would seriously consider getting the engraved model!

It has a shortened cylinder because of its long forcing cone.

I’m jealous on that one. I was going to get one of those and found the Capt. Schaefer copy on sale so got it instead as he was a relative of my cousin’s father’s family in some way not sure how yet. Another good video

Thank you. I REALLY want to get my hands on one of those Capt. Schaefer revolvers. A friend of mine has one - I really should ask to borrow it for a while!

@@craigcook1571 I know the feeling. It is just now starting to be more comfortable weather here. It's been pretty miserable!

I think the lack of recoil shields will lessen the amount of cap jams on these revolvers. Without the recoil shields you have less of a chance of the cats falling into the inner parts and under the cylinder.
@johnzx6r

That seems to be the case, at least in my experience. This revolver seems to work more smoothly than similar revolvers that have the full recoil shields.

I wonder is an 1851 Navy .44 octagon barrel would fit the .44 Dance frame? I am waiting for a laser engraved version!
@johnzx6r

Pietta uses the same frame for these as their other .44 Colt style revolvers, only they mill off the recoil shield for the Dance. So the 1851 .44 barrel will fit on the frame, but you would also need to get an 1851 or 1861 .44 cylinder, since the cylinder that they use for the Dance is shorter front to back than an 1851 cylinder.

When I shoot my 44 caliber Uberti and Pietta’s revolvers I always start out with a minimum charge or 30 grains of 3F powder. I’ve tried smaller charges like 25 and 20 grains of powder but there’s so much extra room in the chambers. There’s a larger jump towards the forcing cone. Do you ever use higher charges than 25 grains? I find 30 to be the sweet spot. In my Pietta’s 1860 Army, 40 grains and a round ball and the pistol shoots to point of aim.

I do experiment with different powder charges. Sometimes the heavier charges work better, but not always. Since I only use these for paper punching, I really try to pick a powder charge that uses as little powder as possible while getting acceptable accuracy. 25 grains seems to be a sweet spot with a lot of the .44 caliber revolvers I've used.

Try holding your grip softer, you might be pushing the point of impact left with hand strength. Great groups i’d say

Wondered if the lack of recoil shield helped prevent cap jams? Having fired it what do you think?
@johnzx6r
@johnzx6r Жыл бұрын
I think it might help. I haven't put a lot of rounds through this yet, but no problems so far. You can see in the video a few times where the fired caps just fall off.
