There are techniques like Gap Shooting and Anchor Points people use in primitive archery that come in handy when shooting guns with no rear sights, like certain flintlocks.

Thanks for the upload! I've been thinking about ordering the steel frame model from Taylors myself. On mine, I would probably at least open up the rear sight notch with a file and possibly install a German silver front sight blade so it can hit more at point of aim. Since its a Colt style with a removable barrel, it most likely would be easier to clean than a 1858 buffalo or carbine.

TY for the demo. So much for the meme of what a deadly shot Col. MORTIMER was with his. lol It would have been fun to see how the pistol shot alone. Maybe next time?

I've got the same revolver it's a hoot. Waiting for stocks to come back into stock for 51, 60, and 58. Until then I'll be content with my 58 carbine, or 66, whatever ya wanna call it.👍
@johnzx6r11 ай бұрын
These stocks have not been available for years. I'm wondering if they ever will be again.
@jeffshootsstuff11 ай бұрын
Pretty good shooting IMO. And looks like it's hitting close to POA. I have a couple stocks for my original and replica colts but haven't tried them yet. I'll have to get on that. My versions fit into the cutouts in the recoil shields like on the 1860 Army.
@johnzx6r11 ай бұрын
Thanks! At the 25 yard mark it is hitting just about at point of aim, which I'm kind of surprised at - I thought it would hit a lot higher. I wouldn't mind finding a stock for the 1860 at some point, but they are very scarce at this time.

Great piece! I really appreciate the camera angles in your videos which offer great views of the shooter, the firearm, and the target. Something quite a few gun youtubers often fail to do well, in my opinion (especially in showing both a good view of the firearm and the target).

Thank you. That is one of the benefits of being your own writer, director, actor, camera man, sound man and editor of these videos. I can set up a camera pretty much anywhere I want to and get the camera angle I want without worrying about Baldwin-ing some poor person in the process!

Dear Sir, thanks for another very well-crafted video, and for confirming what I have always suspected about the attachable/detachable shoulder stock being about 1.5 to 2 inches too short for the Colt's New Model Ranger and the New Model Army revolvers for a proper sight picture and for the cap blasts on one's face. Your marksmanship is remarkable and showcases both your goodly shooting skills and that revolver's design capability. I would like to obtain a shoulder stock for my Colt's Model Army revolver of 1848 (The 1st Model Dragoon), in the future. Thank you again for this very informative and easy-to-follow & fathom video. A friend ha 18" Walker with a butt stock . He is trying to convert it to the 45-55 walker. However it specs are larger than any other production walker out there, so isn't finding a conversion for it. I have the Remington 1866 carbine, and if you have watched I was able to get a 60 gr charge behind a 165 gr Mukwa conical for 1500fps. Also a 54 gr charge with a 195 gr Mukwa conical . I have since installed a kirst gated conversion on it I've been trying to talk my friend out of the Walker carbine. Mountain man

I also have the Uberti 1866 Remington that I hope to get out to the range with soon. The Walker sounds pretty cool - Colt had the Dragoons with the stocks, and those Dragoons are nearly as large as the Walkers. If you ever are able to talk your friend out of it, it would certainly make for an interesting video!

You will find that it shoots well without the stock. I picked mine up used and the stock was not with it. Because of the long barrel it makes a good small game revolver.
@johnzx6r7 ай бұрын
I will be trying it out again, but without the stock next time. I have a feeling I will get better results that way.

Hmmm…where in the world did you acquire percussion caps from? Did you time travel back to the 1970s to buy the those caps along with that gun? 🤔
@johnzx6r11 ай бұрын
Ha Ha! No, didn't have to go quite as far back in time as that! But I did acquire a good supply of them before the whole pandemic thing ruined everything.

I had a stock that i attached once then never used it as it seemed a very aquard hold. I wouldnt mind a long barrel but would probably leave it as a pistol. That would be a good video. See if tge stock makes a huge difference in grouping.

"faded into history" as we speak rn there seems to be a mild resurgence with stocked pistol pdws for the "prepared citizen" crowd. Ive no clue if its gonna be a fading trend or the next step in civilian shooting as pistol stocks become more cheaper, sturdier and more compact.

Thank you. I wish I knew what was going on and why a lot of these videos don't get the views and subscribers. Not that I think my videos are great or anything, but when you are browsing KZbin and run across some pretty lousy videos with an enormous amount of views, you can't help but wonder. At the end of the day, I really only do this because I enjoy it, and if there are still a few people out there who get a kick out what I do I'm going to keep doing it. Would be nice to get a little more recognition, though.
