The schtick is he always makes it look like it's going to be a comically lame trick like getting someone to correctly guess their own name or guessing a card by literally going through the entire deck or straight ducking up the act and blaming it in the dog. And the best part is if there was no magic after this I would still pay to see the show. Like if he was literally just up there making people guess their own names that would be a show in and if itself. Then he takes a hard left turn and the card is in the banana and you are sitting there like what just happened.

I grew up watching The Amazing Johnathon. His Comedy Central Presents was etched in my memory at 12ish. One of the many inspirations I had to pursue stand up comedy (open micer still).
