He kinda reminds me of the wild boars that roam Florida, but surely not . . .if he is, I dont know how he could be a house pet much longer. I'm a first-time Mom (who works full time from home) with an 8-month old that isn't a great napper, and this looks like a similar level of commitment. Her comment at the end about people who may want to own a pig is very smart and practical. Too often people don't realize what they've signed up for and just how difficult it can be. But you can tell she'd do anything for Merlin. She's a great Mom!

I agree. People tend to get rabbits for their children at Easter and wind up just letting them outside or dropping them off at a shelter ( where they’re euthanized) bc they are delicate little creatures and take a lot of care and love IF you raise them right.

My kids and I volunteer at a farm sanctuary. They have a field of pet pigs they care for in which people gave them up.

Yes, owning a pig is basically committing to taking care of a toddler for 12-18 years, but a toddler that weighs up to 250 pounds, is incredibly strong, destructive, and grows sharp tusks. They’re one of the smartest and most emotional animals on the planet and deserve amazing lives, but they are not easy pets. I really admire the people who make it work.

I also enjoy their stories. I wish they would stop showing owners being irresponsible. Ice cubes are a known choking hazard for pets. If she had discussed this habit with her Veterinarian, she would’ve been immediately told to stop it.

When my mom was younger my grandfather rescued 2 little runts, and brought them home to bottle feed. As they got bigger they pretty much became house pets. The female absolutely loved taking baths, so if they didn’t shut the door good enough she would come in and try to take baths with them.

Didn’t think there could be anything new in my life, but THIS is it. A wonderful relationship, with a beautiful and very intelligent pig. Thank you for sharing it. I remember reading years ago that in one country (don’t know which) Guide Pigs were being used to help blind people, and that they seemed even more intelligent than Guide Dogs. Sometimes - just sometimes - we live in a wonderful, beautiful world. ❤️

Pigs are horrible pets they require a lot of attention and are extremely selfish as you can see in the video. Also they grow big and heavy, the pig in the video is not fully grown yet and once it does, it might cause more problems with his spoiled behavior (how will she dance with him after he grows, he will be upset if she wont dance with him). I usually love Dodo but stories like this one make people get pigs as pets only to find out they cannot control them.
