@@sirens367 If I wanted a knife that looked old and ratty it would be fine. Besides Stone wash is a popular way to hide blade imperfections, When I stripped the stone wash off my plain edge marauder the bare blade looked like a shark chewed on it. It would not surprise me that blades that don't pass final polish inspections get stone washed.

I have been using this knife for several years now. I have butchered deer in the woods. The concave grind sharpens easily. However, it will hold an edge well enough to do several deer before needing to be sharpened. I am breaking down the deer completely and placing it in a pack. The tip is strong. I thought it might break but I have worked through several joints to remove legs with no problem. I don’t spilt wood with a knife. However it is great for cutting a 2-3” thick staff or tent pegs. A great hunting knife.

Yeah, i have both it and the ontario sp10. Sp10 is better as he says, but heavy, no where near as pointy. The marauder is plenty for light light bushcraft, batoning etc and very light to carry but well balanced for chopping at its total gross weight.

It is an absolutely amazing knife, and looks badass as hell, I've used it in the woods and it performs fantastic, It is an amazing hunting knife, can process/butcher a whole animal using it in the field, razor sharp and easy to resharpen in the field (I use the guided field sharpener from work sharp), and it can also be used as a last ditch effort against smoky the bear (God forbids), I carry both the Marauder and the SRK in my belt when hunting, and I carry a dedicated sharp big belly skinning knife that has a gut hook in my backpack. I am stoked that you shared a review about this very underrated and under appreciated monster of a knife! It is a performer.

Always got to love a Bowie knife. One of my favorite designs and I recently designed my own. The Huntsman Bowie. It’s highly debated the origin but as a history and weapons nerd I like to think it originated in medieval Germany known as the Messer and may have evolved from a modified Seax, But that’s just my thoughts.
@mrdarren1045

I think a lot of the thought that went into these fighting knife designs was the intimidation factor. Cause that is one knife I wouldn't fancy going up against. In fact pull that out on me and I'd be running as fast as I could and as far away as I could. The designers of these knives knew a bit about psychology and what blade shapes would intimidate an enemy the most..

@john050994
@john050994 Жыл бұрын
Never pull a weapon if you aren't going to use it. Using it to intimidate only invites trouble. It might make them second guess. But what happens when it doesn't. Having a knife or gun on you doesn't do you any good if you aren't willing to drive it into their chest or shoot them to death. There are a lot of people who can say that they have the nerve to do it. It's a very easy thing to say. I was stabbed in Chicago with my cousin. Drunk in the wrong neighborhood. He died calling out for his mom. Can you do that to someone? Even if they're attacking you? Everyone thinks that it'd be easy. I carry wherever I go. I'm still not sure. But there's only one way to find out and I hope I never have to. Your best option in a situation is to just run. If they want your shit. Give them your shit. If they want your life. Run if you can, if you can't, fight and hope you survive.

@@john050994Well said. Very sorry for your cousin. Offender(s) caught? If I were being attacked in such a neighbourhood and had a fighting knife or gun, stab bang, in it goes! Especially after your real life incident.
@john050994
@john050994 5 ай бұрын
@@adods9824 police never got them. I had no useful description to give. Three black guys in dark cloths. Not much to go off of in Chicago. Again id say think about your quickness to say that. Not trying to be negative in any way, if what I say comes off as dick-ish thats not my intent. You ever kill an animal? Hunting or otherwise? I'm a hunter (not for sport). Been doing it since I could hold a rifle with my grandfather. It's still an incredibly uneasy feeling. I love animals. More so than most people. They are honest in all of their intentions. I couldn't tell you how many times I've said under my breath "sorry bud" before taking my shot. And it's not just in that moment. It's forever after. The walk dragging it through the woods, the drive home, while you sleep. Even now. It's hard to explain the thoughts as you clean your rifle after washing the blood off your hands. Now take all of these thoughts I can't explain to you and make them about a person you shot or stabbed and watched die. The thoughts you have through the whole process of going to court, the paranoia of "what if they charge me for murder." The looks the family of the deceased give you. You ever been in the shower, and you just remember some embarrassing or dumb shit you did or said that has been haunting you since you did it? Imagine that being the image of the person you shot with the fear of death written all over their face. Or the last thing they said. It took years of therapy to help me stop beating myself up. I relived my cousin's last moments in my dreams for months. Every night. "I just wanna go home. I wanna see mom. I gotta go see her. MOM! MOOOOM!" None of that was because of anything I did. And it had me fucked up for years. Now I'll look at it with the shoe on the other foot. I just defended myself. And the guy is lying on the ground trying to figure out if he's got enough fingers to plug the holes while garbling out, "I just wanna go home, I gotta go see my mom. Mom! MOOOOM" That was the thought that changed how, what, and why I carry. Before my thoughts were "I'm gonna get them before they get me" it was almost like a vendetta mixed with revenge and a feeling that the world owes me something. I carried my 38 special and a large folding knife on me. I still carry those. But I added an item and a new mentality. I have a small backpack that I have on me with a water bottle and other things. In that bag I now keep a trauma kit I put together. I went and got training on how to treat gunshot wounds as well as other trauma treatment. I don't want to be the guy who can only take a life to save my own. But I'm also not foolish enough to believe that non-lethal force can stop every threat. If push comes to shove I hope that I can do what is needed. I don't want to kill, I want more than anything that both parties survive. And now I can make sure they have the best chance to survive. Or at least the best chance that I can give. Also it looks way better in court if you try to save them. Sorry about the long comment. Just turned out that way. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't be too quick to justify throwing a life away. If you're gonna give yourself the ability to make holes in things, you should also learn how to close those holes as well. Stay safe and have a good day man.

@@john050994Profound comment. Reading on 'smoko' (break) ... Well, I've hunted and killed. Also, 25 years Military Police and 15 years Cop. Armed daily. Thinking about Lethal Force use daily. So yes, extremely reluctant to use force, and aware of the Legal process afterwards. So if I did, it would always Always be last resort self defence. No 'get in first', no anger / impulsivity etc Here in Australia there's nowhere near the leniency towards cops who shoot / kill people as there seems to be in the US. I'd say 50/50 chance you'll be charged, initially with murder. So yeah, hesitant for sure. We can't carry down here, no 2A. Knives are prevalent, and tools, bottles and cowardly sucked punches, and as Sonny Barber calls it "Rat f*cling" (multiple thugs kicking one person's chest / head in) ..... So yeah, violent death is a thing here, regardless of firearms or not. Well done re the first aid training, and I have no doubt your incident PTSD'd you. Of course it would, you poor bugger. I shall reread your thoughtful comment at home. Peace be with you man 🙂👍

Most people aren't going to kill hogs, but if they were, they'd be better off with a Cold Steel OSS, a Recon Tanto SK-5 or an Odenwolf W-Catcher. The Marauder is clearly a self defense or fantasy blade for people with too much money burning holes in their pockets. It's far too thin to be useful as a camp knife (get an Ontario Marine Raider as you said, or a Ka-Bar). If you want a self-defense knife, try the afore-mentioned Odenwolf or the Sow-Catcher. The Marauder, to me, has a cheap feel to it for a $75 (4/2024) price. I got the serrated version, which I do recommend. But make sure the pattern is nice and sticky on the edge. My first one, from Amazon, was horrible. How it made it out of the factory is a huge mystery. It is a formidable weapon. The replacement was right on.

I’ve been looking at these for a while, but can’t decide between the non-serrated or serrated model. I think Lynn Thompson of Cold Steel recommends the serrated for the ultimate offensive fighting knife, but that is going to be harder to sharpen with one of their dedicated dog bone sharpeners. Thanks for the review!

I got the serrated, the choice wasn't hard for me as I wanted it for so long. I have a large collection, and if I could only have one to fight off a group of men trying to kill me this is it. It's just on another level to all my other fixed blades in terms of cutting power. A big shot to the arm would take it half off with the serrations.

I also have a large collection, a huge pile of Kukris, big choppers, the Ka-Bar big knives including their very sharp bolo design similar to the Ontario SP-53 which I also have, several Condors, lot's of customs, etc., but realized I only have one Scagel type design and it's not as heavy duty. I have both this and the Ontario SP-10 on my list for big Bowie style knives. I appreciate the info on the serrations, and will go with that as well.

@@johnanon658 Lansky makes a little dog bone sharpener with grooves that exactly match the special smaller Cold Steel serrations. Makes it super easy to sharpen, just match the grooves to the blade. Larger serrations on other brands typically have to be done with a round diamond sharpener which takes longer. I love the Marauder blade, but for whatever reason that subhilt handle doesn’t fit my larger hand all that well, which is too bad. I can make it work though! 👍

People who aren't from or ever lived in Pennsylvania probably laughing when you say "jungle" but their is some extremely rugged, wild forests and mountains filled with big beast including mountain lions, bears and porcupines. I lived in Potter country and we were hours away from "civilization" and the very small town was a 30 minute drive where 10-12 minutes of that was driving down a steep as hell road down the mountain. Out there you could drive for hours and not see any signs of towns or people and then all of a sudden a town would just pop up out of no where. Places like Renovo and shit. There would be like one mill or something like that that would employ a lot of the residents but others would have to drive an hour or two to a bigger town like Olean, NY or something. But my point is PA is some serious bush. A place where a lot of areas don't even have police like where I lived there was no police department. So if you need to go some where to hide then Gods Country is the place to go

Full serrated or pick a different knife. Clip should be sharpened on that style knife and by the time you do that you might as well go with a smatchet. Of course it's 4x the price but the Microtech bowie does everything this does not. You could get a Pakistani leafspring replica of a Musso that does it all with double the size for double the price but it's going to rust like a mother. Go down under with the outback for some style points and 440c will polish up nice. The one thing I can say that hits the spot woth this one is it was made in Taiwan, what China could have been. Not to please with the new direction after the cold steel buyout. Please express your displeasure so they will right the ship before it sinks.

Hi GT, first I would like to say I like your videos. As we live in the same type of natural environment, next to your serious approach, your conclusions are like a benchmark to me. There is only one issue, it would be nice if you edit your videos to put weight and size in the metric system as a side note. Not just for me, but the rest of the world is watching your videos too and is not using the imperial system anymore so we have no clue in our imagination how to interpret the incoherent imperial chaos. I did try to understand the imperial system but it is like using windows and going back to MS-DOS and it really makes no sense. Thanks for your understanding. Greetings, All from Europe.
