Pig Tooth Electroforming and Patina Fail with Awesome Result

Electroforming everything is a challenge. I got this pig tooth and working with it was an experiment in all ways. I made for the first time a patina with ammonia, and the result was unexpected.

If you paint the copper with white vinegar mixed with a bit of table salt mixed in. Then place it in a container with ammonia sealed. It will take 7 or so hours to make it electric blue. :D 1-2 hours for a more dulled blue. Also if you paint it with just vinegar and salt, and let air dry. It turns the copper to green, like the Statue of Liberty. :D.

Yes, thanks for the advice. I watched lots of videos and theoretically I know a bunch of ways but practically I've never made one... Well... Just this one. I didn't have any clue about the time. Leaving it for a week wasn't a good thing to do. It became black. Also I shouldn't have done the protection coat with zaponlack, it got all the color away. I think I'm gonna make a video all about patinas but I need to do some experiment by my self first!

It’s the bath that’s made it blue, I’ve tried a few teeth & bones sealing them with different things but unless you do several coats of nail polish then latex on top you’ll get the liquid eating through the organic. This still turned out epic imo 😊

I made few boar tusks for my hunters friends 2 years ago and they all turned out perfectly white, in exception for one that had a blue (very defined) dot in a spot where I missed the latex. This time the blue has a gradient effect, under the latex, that's why I think it's ammonia's fault. Maybe the electroforming solution started it and the ammonia finished the job. I have to try again with bones. I like it anyway!

@@cuforming hmmm sounds like you’ve been really unlucky! I’ve not done the ammonia patina on bones yet so I will be extra careful if I do 👍🏻

@@cuforming Ammonia makes a complex with copper 2+ ions that has a deep blue colour. So even if the copper amount in your tooth was minuscule and not visible on its own, the ammonia treatment deepened the colour and developed the visible stains.
