Spencer is so gorgeous!! I love this type of pigeon. I love the irridescence, the beautiful body shape. He is a wonderful co-host. Will look for more videos featuring him. Thank you

Just recently found your channel, and I love it! My soon-to-be roommate and I both really like birds, but we knew parrots wouldn't be for us. Partially because of our living situation, partially because we're both very noise sensitive. It never occurred to us to have pigeons or doves until I found you! Thank you so much for all this information, we're now learning as much as we can so we can properly prepare for our future pigeons!

From the behaviour of my rescued Crow, who was with me for 5 years, Spencer there is twitching his wings and, with the head movement between your fingers, is asking for food. I think this must be how baby birds do it, my Crow was just fledging when his family were shot and he fell out of a pine tree at my feet. When I first had him I had to use tweezers to imitate the beak of a parent and got very used to all the wing movements and other behaviours associated with asking for food. Of course when he grew he could feed himself from his bowl but if he could, he always wanted to do the baby bird feeding thing if I was in the room, he used to preen me from one of his perches behind my chair and had very strong ideas about how ny hair and eyebrows should be. If you have never had your eyebrows and hair styled by a crow. I can tell you it's one of the most relaxing things I have had done to me! Spencer is pretty content on your hand there as he has done most of the things I associate with a relaxed bird, he is preening, himself and you, asking for food, his feathers are not tight and ready for flight and he's doing that chewing thing like teeth grinding.

Look up pigeon towers of the Middle east and North Africa. They used to use pigeon excrements as a source of organic fertilizer. It really is beautiful and very useful animal. Thank you for the video.

What a wonderful channel!! :) I became a pigeon enthusiast roughly a year ago. I'm an artist and have been painting them too. Perhaps you could make a video on the green and purple shiny colors on the rock pigeons' necks. I always wonder how the feathers reflect such intense colors. Thanks!

NefFy Thank you! I just found one of these wandering around outside by our pool and I noticed it was a bird I have never seen before and it also had a green anklet....so I didn’t know if it was someone’s pet or just a bird that is being tracked or what kind of bird it was or anything! Thank you for the info

I'm not sure if you're still following comments, but I rescued a baby Rock Pigeon from becoming Crow food, he's roughly 5 weeks old now and I could really use some advice. Would you be willing to reach out to me

Amazing video and perfect info but it's a feral pigeon not a rock pigeon and all what's seen in cities are feral even rock ones are lots of different subspecies we have 4 of them in our country ;) Most interesting and rare is the Oasis Rock pigeon : Columba livia dakhlae ❤ But most common to see is Columba livia schimperi ( schimperi/ butleri) Columba livia Palestinae: in Sinai Greetings from Egypt
@thecrazypigeonlady87313 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct, Spencer is a feral Rock Pigeon (Columba Livia) having descended from domesticated Rock Pigeons who once lived wild centuries ago. Although he's many many generations from a wild ancestor, from an ornithological perspective hes the same species. As wild Rock Doves are rare where I live he is sadly the closest thing I have! Very interesting to hear you have so many subspecies of the Rock Dove where you live! I would be interested to know what the observable differences are :-)

@@thecrazypigeonlady8731 as my greetings from Egypt so I'm Egyptian I live in Cairo and lover and researcher about the Columbidae specially doves subspecies so I was choosen for a mission took last 6 month as international support to gather for a forigein scientist different species of Columbidae specially the ones not listed or approved as different subspecies from the streptopila Turtur turtur which is European Turtle dove which u have so we have 2 other kinds one is approved as streptopila Turtur rufescens which is called Egyptian Turtle dove and 2nd not yet approved the S. Turtur issabelina so some people abroad working on it to separate it from the rufescens, as well they requested different subspecies of rock pigeons so all been gathered successfully with amazing white or Ivory Turtle dove mutation 1st from it's pattern/ colour in the world, shipped & arrived safely hopfully will be held on the pigeons day lots of info and samples and a new book Rock Pigeons species are distributed in Egypt according to the nature and geography we already have a pic for the different species aside big difference appears specially on head including the eye colour even the shiny pattern from green and purple differs And when u see real rock pigeons they are all one copy like doves no difference and they really live far from civilizations with the sand crouse So the Oasis Rock pigeon "Columba livia dakhlae " is very small one like dove size , wings till tail kinda long wings and short tails with brown eye and mostly purple neck and body colour bright the name Dakhlae come from name of a group of oasis and cities in the western desert South Egypt where this species is found near it's independent subspecies also the Senegal dove in Egypt are 3 subspecies one if them is only in those oasis with special bright shiny colour than other Senegal doves The Egyptian Rock pigeon " Columba livia schimperi is bigger than the Oasis in size and the eyes are yellow mainly living in the red sea mountains in eastern desert other subspecies schimperi butler are so similar hard to differentiate but eyes are orange Last is the Arabian rock pigeon " Columba livia Palestinae with bigger head and skull structure and bright brown eyes and very different in the shiny pattern on neck mainly green It's hard to describe but pic for the 3 of them together is clear if there is a way I can send it to you then u can easily see the difference Note that they all must be grey with the 2 black stripes or margins but Not like Spencer's pattern or colour as this is feral plumage)) And excuse me for taking long Have a lovely day )

You're welcomed yes it's really interesting also keeping and breeding as I'm doing with doves and fancy pigeons on big scale)) also i forgot to mention the beak is very thin and differ from rock species to another mostly they are like doves beaks actually Spencer has some racing blood I think as feral ones mostly more thinner in beaks but he is a lovely lovable pigeon as they all do))

I know how you want to do those missions as your grand fathers done for example the Oasis Rock pigeon was discovered & listed as different R.P by Richard Meinertzhagen came here as soldier in the British colony ended here as zoologist after seeing the African nature as many others ))

Question: What would be possible reason why pet pigeon suddenly change behaviour? For example today it love you so much, follow you where ever you go then suddenly, on the next day it becomes aggressive and attacking you?
@thecrazypigeonlady87313 жыл бұрын
If your pigeon is being affectionate, then it regards you as its mate. If its also being aggressive then its probably male. Males do show aggression to their mates, 'driving' them away from rival males and onto the nest, sometimes getting pushy and pecking. Give him a box and some twigs to play house and a stuffy toy to beat up and you may be able to focus his energy. He doesnt hate you, hes just trying to boss you about ;-)

Hi, true wild rock pigeons live out in the cliffs of north west scotland in the UK, hundreds of miles from me so I dont have any pictures of them live but they are very similar to the feral rock pigeon Spencer in the video, but they have the 'blue bar' patten with double wing stripe. Theres a picture on this Wikipedia article: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_dove Hope that helps!
