We have been feeding a racing pigeon over the past few days it has two rings on his right foot, yellow top then a plastic covered white one, and a single yellow one on its left. my mum rang the owner and he said to wait a week to see if he goes on but im wondering wether i should catch it and ring up again incase when it does go on he carries on in the wrong direction! its a very beutiful bird indeed.

Thats whats the training is for Lisa, in the natural state they would "range" a wide area to a feeding place and return to the roost on a gradual learning curve. Once they get many miles from home it is Magic how they do it...no one knows!!

In the winter months I hang a net or mesh cloth over the front of the loft which keeps out the damp air but lets in fresh air. The loft faces South east so it is a very sunny and dry direction in the UK

How often do you replace your floor coverings?

If you acquire new birds at the right age (25-30 days old) they will settle very easily. I would not let them out until they are comfortable in the loft and have eaten & drunk there for a few days. Then they know the loft is good for all they need. Good Luck

A tired racing pigeon may need a few days care from good people like you to build up enough strength to get home. It will go eventually and if it is not causing you a problem then I would let it rest. However no Fancier wants his pigeon to be a nuisance to anyone and when caught he should collect it from you.

your right in a way but wrong in many things. Don't judge something you only know a little. When they release them thousands of miles away, the pigeons have an option either to choose between home and the wild some just remained there at the release point and found there partner and some got home, others died, its the call of nature. Humans are the master and bringing them to the wild is like bringing them back to where they originated. If you want some more debate i will, and will educate you.

Hi Chris, My name is George and I'm from Sydney Australia.My uncle is old school and is still using the old fashion racing clock, where you need to grab the pigeon then take off the ring and place it in the clock box. He looses 35 sec every time he races. My uncle has very good and healthy pigeons, This year we have just started the Western Sydney club pigeon tournament over 200km and has two 2nd and one 4th place, Others racing have the electric box clock. Is there a way that I can make time?

We've been taking care of a pegion that's identical to these ones! There's 2teenagers going around abusing them. I had her brought to me on on birthday! She's so sweet!
