To the people who don't know what she did I'll give a small explanation: ( TW: SENSITIVE TOPICS) So Melanie Martinez and Timothy Heller were friends until like 2017 ( like june or December) Timothy posted a tweet about Melanie on s3xu@lly h@rssing her. And people believed her because her explanation were like very long ( she said mel did it at a 2 day sleepover) but the dates didn't really make sense cuz mel was touring in new york. At the end Melanie was proved innocent and that Timothy was jealous of her fame and that her "mental problem" Made her do it ( she has BPD) and even clamied that Melanie's song paicfy her was originally written by her. ~thats all~

I feel conflicted now that more time has passed between the original allegations. Melanie's music, image, and persona deeply resonate with me and have for almost a 10 years now (which is crazy to say, I just got into her fandom very young) When the allegations first came out in 2017 I was in middle school. I loved Melanie and had incorporated aspects of her brand into my identity. I didnt believe Timothy at all, but less because of inconsistencies with the allegation but because I wanted to be "allowed" to listen to her again. Now I'm old enough to be heading towards college, and my opinions have shifted. SA is a complicated crime, victims often push down details and give perpetrators the benefit of the doubt in an effort to maintain their relationships and friendships. Even the lyrics in this song could be interpreted as tropes often used against women who were sexually assaulted. Paraphasing of course, "I'm the real victim here," "She came out with it for the money/the fame." These are used routinely against victims of rape. I'm not saying anyone who loves Melanie is a bad person, because I love her brand too. But theres some cognative dissonance here that you have to be aware of. Whether you believe the allegations or not, at least allow the victim to exist of social media without being mentioned to harassed too often. Consider, if she was telling the truth, how stressful it would be to be another SA victim watching this play out in real time. The dismissive remarks, people defending your abuser. Its terrifying. Again, I've considered myself a crybaby since I was 9. I found Melanie's music through a goddamn Ever After High Dressup Game. I still remember, the song was Mad Hatter. I was like "Damn this is kinda good" and it spiraled from there. No one wants to give up things they like, or feel like a bad person from liking it. I just want fans to look at the nuances of the situation.

this is exactly how I feel, as I’ve gotten older, I realize all the “inconsistencies” in Timothy’s story are the same things they use against almost every victim to tell them they’re lying. People don’t take sexual assault seriously, at all. "sarah morgan exposed her!!" she isn't even a real person. "she dressed up as melanie!!" many victims stay friends with their abusers after it happens. some even stay dating or are forced to live with them. timothy explained that she was still friends with melanie at the time and was on tour with her when the pictures were taken. (update: i found out that those pictures were taken before the allegations even came out.) "she promoted her music after making the accusations!!" she released her song months before. "she didn't go to the police or court!!" what would the police be able to do without evidence? the legal system treats sexual assault cases horribly, especially when it's women on women. most sa cases don't have any evidence. and if timothy really is lying, why hasn't melanie sued her for defamation? "timothy bought the game!!" yeah, as a joke. she never consented to having actual sex. "melanie was in the handcuffs!!" ever heard of this thing that happens in games called taking turns? "melanie made songs about how rape is bad!!" hypocrisy is a thing that exists. Ran here after watching Louis McClugs vid on this, and I am glad that I moved on to more emo-like music like Pierce the Veil and Get Scared.
